The best possible armor target in The Forge [BETA] is Shogun armor on Island 4, but it is an endgame chase rather than a guaranteed first craft. For a practical World 4 build, start with Heavenly Orb or your strongest defensive-trait ore and combine it with high-multiplier materials such as Sentira, Yin Yang, or another currently available option. Before World 4, a Duranite-and-Etherealite-centered craft is the strongest late-World-3 direction, while medium Samurai or a heavy Knight-family set is usually the better budget choice.
There is no single universal “best armor recipe.” Your result depends on the total number of ores, the percentage of each ore in the mixture, ore traits and multipliers, the island where you craft, and whether you want maximum survivability, mobility, low cost, or a reliable piece. Use the recipes below as target-specific starting points, then verify the in-game forge preview before committing rare materials.

Best armor recipes at a glance
| Goal | Best target | Recommended material direction | What to expect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Highest endgame ceiling | Shogun | Heavenly Orb, Sentira, Yin Yang, and another high-multiplier defensive ore | Requires the relevant Asura’s Incarnate recipe unlock and still has chance-based results |
| Best practical World 4 craft | Accessible Ninja, Rootguard, Vanguard, or another current Island 4 variant | Best defensive-trait ore available plus one or two high-multiplier ores | Useful progression gear without waiting for the Shogun recipe |
| Best World 3 fallback | Wolf, Dark Knight, Knight, or the strongest Raven Cave option available | Duranite and Etherealite supported by a compatible high-multiplier filler | Strong bridge into World 4; exact Duranite numbers vary between public references |
| Best budget/general-purpose set | Medium Samurai or another medium set | Your strongest accessible rare or epic ores, without consuming late-game materials | Good balance of survivability, mobility, cost, and craft practicality |
How armor crafting actually works
Armor is made by melting ores and selecting the armor option in the forge. The craft is not determined by one ingredient alone. Four factors matter:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- Total ore quantity: The amount you put into a craft affects the armor class distribution and the likelihood of different armor pieces appearing. Light, medium, and heavy armor do not share the same practical ore requirements or outcome probabilities.
- Ore composition: The types and percentage shares of your ores influence the craft multiplier and the traits carried into the result.
- Crafting location: The island or world where you perform the craft is part of the progression system. A recipe that makes sense in World 3 should not automatically be treated as the best Island 4 recipe.
- Your objective: A heavy Wolf or Shogun chestplate may be best for maximum survivability, while medium armor can be better for farming, movement, and conserving rare ores.
This makes every recipe a two-part decision. First, ask how strong the armor would be if the desired slot or named variant appears. Then ask how reliably the mixture produces that slot or variant. A high-stat recipe is not efficient if it repeatedly produces the wrong armor piece.

The best endgame recipe family: Shogun armor
For an Island 4 endgame player, Shogun is the clearest highest-tier target identified by the available research. Its listed health values are above those of the earlier armor families, and its recipe is connected to the Asura’s Incarnate boss progression rather than ordinary early crafting.
Shogun prerequisites
- Reach World 4 and gain access to the Island 4 progression loop.
- Defeat Asura’s Incarnate repeatedly while pursuing the relevant Shogun recipe unlock.
- Once the recipe is unlocked, prepare a high-multiplier mixture centered on defensive or vitality-oriented ores.
- Check the armor preview for the slot and class you want before spending the rare materials.
The recipe unlock and the armor result are separate hurdles. Public player reports describe Shogun recipe drops as rare, and unlocking a recipe does not guarantee a Shogun helmet, chestplate, or leggings on every attempt. Treat Shogun as an endgame chase item, not as the dependable first craft for a newly arrived World 4 player.
Community Shogun starting ratio
One recent community recommendation uses a split of approximately 30% Sentira, 30% Heavenly Orb, 30% Yin Yang, and 10% of another high-multiplier ore. This is a community starting point, not an official or guaranteed best-in-slot formula. It is intended to combine valuable defensive effects with strong crafting multipliers.
A second community suggestion uses an approximately equal mixture of Heavenly Orb, Lucky Cat, and Duranite. This alternative is also unverified and may perform differently depending on the current traits, the armor slot being targeted, and the version of the game running on your server.
Do not interpret either pattern as “put in exactly these items and Shogun is guaranteed.” Convert the proportions into the quantities allowed by your forge, inspect the resulting probability preview, and stop if the preview does not favor the intended class or slot. If you cannot afford to lose the ores, use a less expensive test craft before attempting the final Shogun roll.
How to spend Shogun materials efficiently
- Craft the chestplate first. It generally provides the largest single contribution to survivability.
- Use leggings next if you need a complete set or if the preview strongly favors the desired leg armor.
- Leave the helmet for last when your rare-ore supply is limited.
- Do not add rare filler just to increase the ore count. More ore can change the class and piece distribution rather than simply improving the result.
- Keep a reserve. Because the desired Shogun piece is not guaranteed, spending every rare ore on one attempt can leave you unable to make a useful fallback craft.
Best practical World 4 armor before Shogun
If you have reached Island 4 but do not yet have the Shogun recipe, craft a strong accessible Island 4 armor variant instead of saving every rare ore indefinitely. Public guides identify Ninja and Rootguard, while player reports also discuss Vanguard and newer variants. The complete current roster is not consistent across public databases, so use the armor index in your current game version as the authority.

World 4 material formula
Build the craft around your strongest available defensive-trait or vitality-oriented ore. Add one or two high-multiplier ores—such as Sentira, Yin Yang, Duranite, or another current Island 4-compatible material—only if the preview still points toward your desired armor class and slot.

This approach is more reliable than blindly copying a fixed percentage. Two players can have very different inventories, and an ore that is excellent in one update may have a changed multiplier or trait after the next update. Your practical World 4 formula is:
Primary defensive ore + high-multiplier support ore + compatible filler, adjusted until the preview favors the target armor.
For a heavy build, increase the total quantity only while the preview continues to support the heavy class. For a medium farming build, stop at the point where the preview gives a useful medium-armor distribution rather than paying the resource and mobility cost of heavy armor.
Best World 3 fallback: Duranite and Etherealite
Players still working through World 3 can build around Duranite and Etherealite, especially when farming Raven Cave. These are the most consistently cited late-World-3 materials for a high-value armor craft and provide a sensible bridge to World 4.

Use Duranite and Etherealite as the core of the mixture, then fill the remaining share with the strongest multiplier ore that does not undermine the defensive profile you want. This is deliberately a recipe family rather than a fixed ratio: the available research does not establish one current, officially validated percentage split for every armor slot.

Duranite is described as a rare Mythical ore with a high crafting multiplier and armor-relevant defensive effects. Public references disagree about its exact multiplier and the wording or numerical details of its traits. One commonly described effect is shield-like protection with a chance to reduce incoming physical damage, along with an additional health interaction. Check the live in-game tooltip before treating any exact number as authoritative.
Etherealite is repeatedly recommended in community vitality-oriented recipes. In practice, the pair works best when Duranite supplies the defensive direction, Etherealite supports vitality, and the filler improves the multiplier without diluting those intended traits.
Which World 3 armor should you target?
| Target | Why choose it | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Wolf | Highest listed health bonus among the older heavy armor families; the published Wolf chestplate value is +35%. | Lower craft chance than ordinary Knight armor, so failed attempts can be costly. |
| Dark Knight | Strong heavy option with a listed chestplate health bonus of +25%. | Still carries the movement and resource cost associated with heavy armor. |
| Knight | Reliable heavy-armor target with a listed chestplate health bonus of +16.25%. | Lower ceiling than Wolf or Dark Knight. |
| Medium Samurai | Listed chestplate health bonus of +12.75% and a useful general-purpose balance. | Less raw durability than the heavy targets. |
| Medium Viking | Listed chestplate health bonus of +15%, making it a stronger medium-family target in the published tables. | Still does not match the maximum survivability of heavy armor. |
The values above are published armor-table figures and should be treated as a snapshot rather than a permanent guarantee. They are most useful for comparing the older families: Wolf has the highest listed heavy chestplate value, Dark Knight is a strong middle option, and Samurai or Viking are practical when you want medium armor.

Best budget and early-game armor recipe
Early-game players should use the strongest ores they can gather consistently instead of saving indefinitely for materials from a later island. There is no single fixed early-game ratio that is optimal for every player because ore access changes sharply with island, level, and farming route.
Use this progression rule:
- Start with light armor when you need an inexpensive entry set or cannot reliably gather the larger quantity required for medium armor.
- Move to medium armor once you can gather enough ore consistently. Medium armor is generally the better all-purpose target for exploration and farming.
- Use your best accessible multiplier ores in a balanced mixture instead of consuming Mythical or Divine materials that belong to a later progression goal.
- Prioritize the chestplate before completing lower-impact slots.
- Upgrade only when the preview improves the intended class or trait profile.
For most budget players, a complete medium set is more useful than repeatedly chasing a low-probability named heavy variant. A cheaper craft that produces usable armor now can improve farming efficiency enough to reach better islands sooner.
Chestplate, leggings, or helmet: what should you craft first?
When rare ores are limited, craft in this order:
- Chestplate: Usually the largest single health or defensive increase, so it gives the best immediate return.
- Leggings: The next practical priority when completing a set or when the preview gives a favorable chance for the desired variant.
- Helmet: Finish the set after the larger survivability upgrades are secured.
This is resource-management advice, not an official crafting rule. If your current build, preview, or playstyle makes a different slot substantially more attainable, take the guaranteed upgrade rather than discarding materials in pursuit of a theoretical order.

A safer forge process for any recipe
- Choose the armor goal first. Decide whether you want Shogun, a World 4 progression set, a heavy World 3 set, or medium armor.
- Choose the slot. If you are optimizing survivability, begin with the chestplate rather than trying to complete all three slots at once.
- Set the armor class target. Decide whether the craft should favor light, medium, or heavy armor.
- Choose a trait core. Use defensive or vitality-oriented ores for tank builds and do not dilute them with unrelated materials merely because those materials are rare.
- Add multiplier support. Use high-multiplier ores such as Sentira, Yin Yang, Duranite, or another currently relevant option when the preview remains favorable.
- Inspect the preview. Confirm that the armor class, slot, and named-variant probabilities are compatible with your goal.
- Commit only after checking the cost. If the result is not favorable, change one variable at a time—usually total quantity or the filler ore—so you can identify what improved the preview.
- Record successful combinations. Because the game is in beta, keeping notes of your own server version and update date is more useful than assuming an old online ratio remains valid.
What to do when the craft preview looks wrong
The preview favors light armor when you want heavy
The total ore quantity may be too low for the desired class, or the mixture may be distributing probability toward another class. Adjust the quantity gradually and check the preview after each change. Do not solve the problem by automatically adding your rarest ore.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →The preview favors the wrong armor slot
There is no guarantee that a high-multiplier mixture produces a chestplate simply because the chestplate is your preferred item. Rework the quantity and composition, and consider postponing the craft if the desired slot remains unlikely. A stronger theoretical result is not worth it if the probability of receiving the slot is too low.
The named armor variant does not appear
That can be normal. Named variants and Shogun pieces remain chance-based, and unlocking a recipe does not remove all randomness from the craft. Save enough materials for multiple attempts or use a more reliable armor family while continuing to farm.
The defensive trait seems weaker than expected
Check the current ore tooltip and compare the percentage share of the trait-bearing ore. A small amount of a high-multiplier ore may improve the multiplier while weakening the trait profile you actually need. The in-game tooltip should override conflicting database descriptions, especially for Duranite.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Calling one ratio universally best: The best mixture changes with the target class, slot, island, inventory, and update version.
- Confusing high multiplier with high survivability: A multiplier can improve the craft while the resulting trait combination is poor for your build.
- Ignoring probability: Compare the chance of getting the desired piece, not just the listed value of the piece if it appears.
- Spending late-game ores early: Early players should use accessible materials and save scarce World 3 or World 4 ores for the progression point where they matter.
- Assuming public armor lists are complete: Island 4 rosters are reported inconsistently. Check the current in-game index for your server version.
- Using old Duranite statistics: Multiplier and trait descriptions conflict across public references, so verify the current tooltip.
- Skipping the preview: The forge preview is the final check before you risk rare materials.
Recommended progression path
For most players, the efficient route is:
- Craft light armor only when it is the affordable entry point.
- Replace it with medium armor once your ore income supports consistent crafts.
- In World 3, center a defensive craft on Duranite and Etherealite and target Knight, Dark Knight, or Wolf according to your tolerance for lower craft chances.
- Reach World 4 and make an accessible Island 4 set before spending all resources on Shogun attempts.
- Farm defensive and vitality ores while repeatedly pursuing Asura’s Incarnate for the Shogun recipe.
- Once unlocked, use a high-multiplier defensive mixture, starting with the community Sentira/Heavenly Orb/Yin Yang pattern or the Heavenly Orb/Lucky Cat/Duranite pattern, and verify the preview each time.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Shogun armor always the best armor in The Forge?
Shogun is the clearest highest-tier endgame target identified for Island 4, but it is not automatically the best choice for every player. It requires an Asura’s Incarnate recipe unlock, the desired piece is not guaranteed, and a medium or heavy fallback may be more practical for immediate progression.
What is the exact best Shogun ore ratio?
No official, universally verified ratio is established by the available research. Current community starting points include roughly 30% Sentira, 30% Heavenly Orb, 30% Yin Yang, and 10% another high-multiplier ore, or an approximately equal Heavenly Orb, Lucky Cat, and Duranite mixture. Treat these as experiments and check the in-game preview.

Should I use Duranite or Etherealite for armor?
Use them together when possible for a World 3 defensive or vitality-oriented craft. Duranite is associated with defensive effects and a high multiplier, while Etherealite is commonly used for vitality-focused recipes. Exact Duranite stats conflict between public references, so verify its current tooltip.
Which armor piece should I craft first?
The chestplate is usually the best first craft because it generally contributes the largest individual health or defense increase. Craft leggings next and the helmet last when rare materials are limited, unless your current preview makes another slot substantially more attainable.
Is Wolf better than Dark Knight?
Wolf has the higher listed older-family chestplate value at +35%, compared with +25% for Dark Knight, but Wolf has a lower craft chance than ordinary Knight armor. Wolf is the higher-ceiling target; Dark Knight can be the more practical heavy option if you cannot afford many failed attempts.
Recommended Free Tools
Do more ores always make better armor?
No. Total ore quantity influences armor class and piece probabilities, so adding more can move the craft away from your intended result. Increase quantity only while the in-game preview continues to support your chosen class and slot.
Can I use an early-game armor ratio for World 4?
You should not assume so. Ore availability, armor pools, traits, and probabilities vary by progression area and can change during beta updates. Build around the best materials available on your current island and use the live preview.
The Bottom Line
Best possible: pursue Shogun on Island 4 after unlocking its recipe through Asura’s Incarnate. Best practical World 4 craft: combine your strongest defensive or vitality ore with one or two high-multiplier supports and follow the forge preview. Best World 3 fallback: center the craft on Duranite and Etherealite. Best budget choice: medium Samurai or another medium set using accessible ores. In every case, prioritize the chestplate, avoid wasting rare filler, and remember that no community ratio guarantees a particular armor piece.
