The best Katana in The Forge depends on whether you want a reliable combat weapon or a high-ceiling gamble. For most players, the practical choice is a 12-ore hybrid of 5 Magmaite, 3 Fireite, 2 Eye Ore, and 2 Darkryte. Use 7 Darkryte, 2 Demonite, 2 Eye Ore, and 1 Fireite for a more direct-damage profile. In World 4, 4 Galaxite, 4 Kyubite, and 4 Sun Stone is the current calculator-listed ceiling, but Galaxite’s availability is inconsistent across community references and must be verified before you risk the materials.
All three are recommendations, not guarantees. Current crafting references put the Katana probability peak at roughly 72% with 12 total ores; the weapon variant and forging quality remain additional sources of randomness.
Why 12 ores is the Katana default
The Forge uses a weight-based crafting system: the total number of ores strongly influences the weapon class, while the ore mix influences the weapon multiplier and inherited traits. Current community calculators and recipe references place the Katana probability peak at approximately 72% with 12 total ores.
That is a probability peak, not a guarantee. A 12-ore craft can still produce another weapon class, and it cannot guarantee a particular Katana variant. The safest rule is therefore simple: if you specifically want a Katana, save enough material for a deliberate 12-ore craft and check the current preview or calculator before confirming it.

Ore order is not treated as a meaningful variable in current recipe references. Spend your attention on the total count, the percentage of each ore, the expected traits, and whether you can afford the consequences of a failed or disappointing craft.
Trait percentages matter as much as the ore names
Current calculators commonly model a trait as activating at roughly 10% composition and reaching full strength at around 30%. In a 12-ore recipe, that means:
- One ore is about 8.3% of the craft and may provide little or no meaningful trait strength.
- Two ores are about 16.7% and generally provide a partial effect.
- Three ores are 25% and provide a substantial but not always full-strength effect.
- Four ores are 33.3% and are usually a deliberate way to reach full trait strength.
This is why simply adding one rare ore to a recipe does not necessarily make the finished Katana a good build. You may pay for a rare material without supplying enough of it to unlock the trait at useful strength.
The Katana builds worth your rare Ore
| Build | 12-ore composition | Best for | Main strengths | Main risks |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Practical status hybrid | 5 Magmaite, 3 Fireite, 2 Eye Ore, 2 Darkryte | General progression, groups, and bosses | Direct damage plus explosion and burn effects, with Darkryte improving the average multiplier | Eye Ore reduces survivability; several traits are partial rather than fully maximized |
| Raw-damage Katana | 7 Darkryte, 2 Demonite, 2 Eye Ore, 1 Fireite | Players who prioritize direct physical damage | More of the recipe is devoted to high-multiplier materials | Less area control and the same Eye Ore vitality problem |
| World 4 calculator ceiling | 4 Galaxite, 4 Kyubite, 4 Sun Stone | Endgame players with verified access to the materials | Calculator-listed average multiplier of approximately 18.46x, with burn, critical, and other offensive effects from the mix | Galaxite availability is disputed; the result is not independently tested here and may change with updates |
| World 4 fallback | 4 Kyubite, 4 Sun Stone, 4 Meteorite | Players without Galaxite who still want a high-end composition | Kyubite and Sun Stone offensive traits with Meteorite area-explosion support | Lower listed multiplier than the Galaxite version; this is a derived fallback, not an independently tested equal substitute |
1. Best practical hybrid: Magmaite, Fireite, Eye Ore, and Darkryte
Recipe: 5 Magmaite + 3 Fireite + 2 Eye Ore + 2 Darkryte.
This is the best all-purpose recommendation for most players who want one Katana rather than a narrowly optimized damage experiment. Magmaite supplies area-explosion damage, Fireite adds burn, Eye Ore increases weapon lethality at a vitality cost, and Darkryte raises the recipe’s average multiplier.
The value of this mix is that its damage does not come from only one channel. A fast Katana can deal its normal hit damage while also benefiting from area damage against nearby enemies and burn over the course of a fight. That makes the build useful in ordinary progression, mixed enemy groups, and boss encounters where you have enough time for damage-over-time effects to contribute.
The 5/3/2/2 split is a functional template, not a promise of fixed displayed numbers. Trait values can vary with the game version, item quality, and the assumptions used by a particular calculator. Magmaite is the only ingredient in this example that exceeds the common 30% full-strength threshold; Fireite, Eye Ore, and Darkryte are present as supporting components rather than fully maximized traits.
The important drawback is Eye Ore. Its offensive benefit comes with a health or vitality penalty in commonly cited trait tables. Do not stack Eye Ore simply because the damage increase looks attractive. This build is worth using when the extra damage is manageable and you can compensate through play, equipment, or a lifesteal rune. If losing health causes you to die before your added effects matter, the theoretical damage increase is not helping you.

This is the direct-damage alternative to the hybrid. It puts more of the 12-ore budget into high-multiplier materials and avoids spending a large portion of the recipe on a lower-multiplier utility ingredient. Eye Ore supplies the aggressive weapon-damage profile, while the small Fireite contribution gives the recipe a little additional offensive utility.
Choose this build if your priority is hitting harder with the weapon itself rather than creating a broad package of area damage and burn. It is a reasonable choice for players who already understand enemy positioning and do not need as much crowd control.
It is not the universal best Katana. Compared with the Magmaite-centered hybrid, it gives up area-explosion value and remains exposed to Eye Ore’s vitality penalty. The final result also depends on forging quality and the variant you roll. Treat it as the raw-damage choice, not as a guaranteed highest-DPS answer.

Recipe: 4 Galaxite + 4 Kyubite + 4 Sun Stone.
Current Forge Calculator data lists this as a 12-ore Katana setup with approximately a 72% Katana probability and an average multiplier of about 18.46x. That average follows the published ore multipliers: Galaxite at 25.00x, Kyubite at 17.00x, and Sun Stone at 13.39x. Equal parts give the recipe its mathematical appeal.
The ore roles are also reasonably balanced. Galaxite supplies the highest multiplier in the mix but has no listed trait in the referenced ore table. Kyubite contributes burn, critical-chance, and critical-damage effects. Sun Stone contributes burn effects. The result is not merely a high multiplier with no utility; it combines a multiplier ceiling with offensive traits.
However, this is best described as the current calculator-listed ceiling, not a universally available or guaranteed endgame recipe. Community sources conflict about Galaxite’s status. One database describes it as an exceptionally rare, approximately 1-in-1,000,000 ore associated with Goblin Cave, while older or alternate material describes it as testing-server or pre-release content. Do not assume that ordinary players can readily farm it.
Before using Galaxite, confirm all three of the following in your current server and game version:

- The current recipe preview still shows the expected weapon-class probability and multiplier assumptions.
- You are willing to risk the other 11 rare ores if the class or variant roll is unfavorable.
Calculator damage and DPS figures should be treated as estimates. They are useful for comparing compositions, but they are not independent combat testing and should not be presented as a guaranteed result.

If Galaxite is unavailable, replacing it with Meteorite preserves the 12-ore structure while changing the build’s balance. The referenced ore table lists Meteorite at 14.44x with a 60% area-explosion effect. That is lower than Galaxite’s listed 25.00x multiplier, so this is not an equal replacement. It is a practical fallback for players who want Kyubite and Sun Stone’s offensive traits without staking the entire plan on disputed Galaxite availability.
Gargantuan is another possible high-multiplier replacement. Its listed multiplier is 15.00x, with burn and area-explosion effects. A Gargantuan-based composition may be attractive when you want more area damage or burn, but the exact 12-ore split should be checked in the current calculator or in-game preview before forging. These replacement recipes are mathematical composition suggestions based on published ore values, not hands-on test results.
Which rare Ore should you save?
| Ore | What it contributes | How to think about it |
|---|---|---|
| Darkryte | High multiplier contribution | A core ingredient for both the practical hybrid and raw-damage template. It is most valuable when the rest of the recipe does not drag down the weighted average. |
| Magmaite | Area-explosion damage | Best suited to a general-purpose Katana that must handle groups as well as single targets. |
| Fireite | Burn | Useful as a supporting damage-over-time ingredient. Three ores in a 12-ore recipe reach a meaningful partial contribution; four or more are the more deliberate threshold for maximizing one trait. |
| Eye Ore | Weapon damage, with a vitality or health penalty | Powerful when you can survive the trade-off. Avoid treating it as free damage, especially if you are still struggling with basic encounters. |
| Galaxite | Listed 25.00x multiplier, with no listed trait in the referenced table | A possible World 4 ceiling ingredient, but its current obtainment is not settled across community sources. Verify access before planning around it. |
| Kyubite | Listed 17.00x multiplier; burn, critical chance, and critical damage effects | A high-value World 4 offensive ingredient that pairs naturally with a high-multiplier material and another trait-bearing ore. |
| Sun Stone | Listed 13.39x multiplier and burn effects | Useful in the current World 4 composition, particularly when you want a second burn source. |
| Meteorite | Listed 14.44x multiplier and a 60% area-explosion effect | A credible Galaxite fallback because it adds area damage rather than functioning as inert filler. |
| Gargantuan | Listed 15.00x multiplier, burn, and area-explosion effects | Another fallback candidate when its availability and the current calculator support the composition you want. |
The key principle is to avoid weak filler. In a weighted-average multiplier system, a low-tier ore added only to reach a preferred total count can reduce the result of the entire recipe. If you do not have enough high-quality material for a meaningful 12-ore plan, keeping your rare Ore is often better than forcing a craft immediately.
Why cheap six-ore recipes are not reliable Katana recipes
Community recipe references commonly list a 3 Rivalite + 3 Ruby six-ore pattern as a lower-cost, critical-oriented weapon route. That can be useful for players who need an inexpensive weapon, but six ores target a different weight region and should not be advertised as a dependable way to obtain a Katana.
Four-ore recipes are an even worse choice when the goal is specifically a Katana. Low-count attempts are associated with lighter weapon classes such as Straight Sword and carry substantially more class risk. A 1/1/1/1 recipe may be an intentional high-RNG gamble, but it is not a sensible rare-Ore Katana plan.
If you want to experiment with the Rivalite-and-Ruby idea, scale it only after checking the current preview and accepting that a 12-ore version is a new weight and multiplier calculation, not a guaranteed continuation of the six-ore result. Do not blindly assume that doubling a cheap pattern preserves its original weapon class or performance.
Katana variants: your recipe cannot guarantee Washi-maru
There are two separate layers of randomness:
- Weapon-class probability: whether the craft produces a Katana rather than another weapon class.
- Variant probability: which Katana you receive after the Katana result is selected.
A 12-ore recipe improves your chance of hitting the Katana class, but it does not guarantee Uchigatana, Tachi, Juto, Kurokiba-gatana, or Washi-maru. Current Island 4 references list the newer Katana-family variants at approximately these odds inside the relevant variant pool:
| Variant | Approximate listed odds | Listed base damage | Listed attack speed | Listed range |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Uchigatana | — | 8.5 | 0.60 seconds | 9 studs |
| Tachi | — | 8.925 | 0.63 seconds | 9 studs |
| Juto | Approximately 1/2 | 8.5 | 0.60 seconds | — |
| Kurokiba-gatana | Approximately 1/8 | 9.35 | 0.55 seconds | — |
| Washi-maru | Approximately 1/16 | 10.02 | 0.50 seconds | — |
The Juto, Kurokiba-gatana, and Washi-maru odds are variant-pool odds, not guarantees from a particular ore combination. They should not be multiplied or interpreted as the probability that any given recipe will produce one of those weapons unless the current table explicitly defines the same pool and conditions.
Also be careful when comparing damage-per-second claims. References do not always present attack speed and DPS using the same convention. The figures above are the listed weapon-table values; use the stats displayed in your game or the assumptions shown by the calculator rather than declaring a universal ranking from conflicting tables.

Runes: Blast Chip first, Drain Edge second
For a general Katana, the most consistently recommended rune pairing is Blast Chip followed by Drain Edge. Blast Chip adds area damage, reinforcing a hybrid or Magmaite-centered build. Drain Edge provides lifesteal, which is especially valuable when Eye Ore has reduced your survivability.

A sound 12-ore composition with ordinary rune rolls is a better starting point than a weak or accidental weapon with a perfect rune plan.
- Forge a serviceable Katana first. Confirm the class, inspect its resulting stats, and make sure the ore mix produced the type of weapon you intended.
- Use Blast Chip when the first rune slot becomes available. This is the most generally useful early addition for group clearing.
- Add Drain Edge at the second slot. It is the more important defensive pairing for Eye Ore builds or any setup that struggles to stay alive.
- Stop chasing perfect rolls until the weapon is worth enhancing. A better variant or sounder ore composition usually matters more than small rune-roll improvements.
Current rune references describe slots as being unlocked at enhancement milestones, commonly every third enhancement level. Failed enhancements can remove an enhancement level and may cost a previously unlocked slot. A rune returned from a lost slot should not be treated as permanently destroyed, but the failed attempt still costs progress and can delay your build.
Forging quality can reduce the value of a rare recipe
The forging minigames affect item quality. The heating, casting, hammering, and quenching stages are not cosmetic steps: poor execution can materially reduce the finished item’s stats. That makes careful forging particularly important when the recipe contains Darkryte, Kyubite, Galaxite, or another material that is difficult to replace.
Use the minigame stages deliberately rather than rushing through them. The exact quality outcome can depend on the current game implementation, and no recipe can compensate for a badly reduced final item. This guide does not claim that any specific execution produces a guaranteed perfect or masterwork Katana.

A safe decision process before you press Forge
- Choose the job. Pick the status hybrid for an all-purpose weapon, the Darkryte recipe for direct damage, or the World 4 composition only when its materials are verified and expendable.
- Count to 12. If your goal is a reliable Katana attempt, do not substitute a four- or six-ore gamble merely because it is cheaper.
- Check the trait budget. Decide which trait you actually want to maximize. Four or more of one trait-bearing ore is a deliberate commitment; one ore may be too little to matter.
- Remove weak filler. If the recipe needs low-quality material solely to reach 12 ores, reconsider the craft. A lower weighted multiplier can erase the benefit of the class target.
- Verify the live data. The Forge is still a beta experience. Check the current in-game preview, calculator assumptions, ore availability, and server or update context before spending rare materials.
- Forge carefully. Treat the minigames as part of the recipe because quality affects the final stats.
- Evaluate the result before enhancing. Confirm the weapon class, variant, displayed stats, and survivability trade-off before investing in enhancement levels and runes.
Common mistakes that waste rare Ore
Using a low-count recipe for a specific Katana target
A four-ore or six-ore craft may be cheap, but it is aimed at a different weight region. If a Katana is the actual objective, the lower material cost comes with class risk rather than a bargain.
Adding one rare ore as decoration
A single Eye Ore, Fireite, or other trait-bearing ore may activate only a weak version of its effect. Use it because it improves the entire composition, not because its name looks impressive in the ingredient list.
Adding filler to hit a number
Twelve poor ores can be worse than waiting for a smaller number of strong, compatible materials. Weighted multipliers punish filler, and the class probability does not make a weak weapon automatically worthwhile.
Assuming the highest base damage wins every fight
Base damage is only one part of a Katana’s performance. Attack speed, area damage, burn, critical effects, lifesteal, enemy groups, and survival time all affect the practical result. A fast weapon can make repeated status applications and on-hit effects more valuable over a full encounter, but that is build logic rather than a tested universal DPS law.

Planning around Galaxite before confirming it exists in your farming route
Galaxite is the most important availability warning in the current World 4 discussion. Conflicting community references mean you should verify its live acquisition method in-game. Never farm or spend the rest of a recipe on the assumption that a database entry necessarily describes the public version you are playing.
Chasing a premium variant with an otherwise bad craft
Washi-maru and Kurokiba-gatana are attractive because of their listed stats and rarity, but variant RNG is separate from class RNG. A recipe designed only to chase a rare variant can leave you with neither the desired variant nor a sound weapon composition.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does using 12 ores guarantee a Katana in The Forge?
No. Current calculators place the Katana probability at approximately 72% for 12 total ores, which is the current probability peak rather than a guarantee. The remaining chance can produce another weapon class.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteCan a Katana recipe guarantee Washi-maru or Kurokiba-gatana?
No. Weapon-class probability and variant probability are separate rolls. Even after receiving a Katana, you may receive Uchigatana, Tachi, Juto, Kurokiba-gatana, or Washi-maru according to the current variant pool.
What is the best all-purpose Katana build?
Use 5 Magmaite, 3 Fireite, 2 Eye Ore, and 2 Darkryte as the practical hybrid. It combines direct damage with area explosion and burn effects, although Eye Ore reduces survivability and the smaller trait contributions may not reach full strength.
What is the strongest current World 4 Katana recipe?
The current calculator-listed ceiling is 4 Galaxite, 4 Kyubite, and 4 Sun Stone, with an estimated average multiplier of about 18.46x. Galaxite’s current public availability is disputed, so verify that it can actually be obtained in your version before planning around this recipe.
Which runes should I put on a Katana first?
Blast Chip is the recommended first general-purpose rune because it adds area damage. Drain Edge is a strong second choice because lifesteal helps offset Eye Ore’s vitality penalty and improves survivability.
The Bottom Line
For most players, forge 5 Magmaite, 3 Fireite, 2 Eye Ore, and 2 Darkryte as a 12-ore practical Katana template. Choose 7 Darkryte, 2 Demonite, 2 Eye Ore, and 1 Fireite when direct damage matters more than area control. The current World 4 ceiling is the calculator-listed 4 Galaxite, 4 Kyubite, and 4 Sun Stone mix, but Galaxite’s public availability is uncertain. None of these recipes guarantees a Katana or premium variant, so verify the live preview before committing rare Ore.
