If The Game Awards stream keeps crashing on your PC, first identify what is failing: the video player, the browser or streaming app, or Windows itself. The event is watched online; there is no general “The Game Awards” PC game to update or run as administrator. The right fix depends on where you are watching and what closes or stops responding.
First identify what is crashing
Note what happens when playback fails. Does the video stop while the browser stays open, does the browser or app close, or does the whole computer freeze, show a crash screen, or restart? Also note the platform and browser or app, any error message, and whether the same stream works through another available viewing method.
- Video stops, page remains open: Focus first on the stream, connection, and browser or app.
- Browser or app closes: Troubleshoot that specific program before changing PC hardware.
- Windows freezes or restarts: Treat it as a possible system problem, not simply a video-player crash.
The available guidance does not establish one universal cause or a measured success rate for any fix, so work through these low-risk checks rather than assuming a particular fault.
Try these eight fixes in order
1. Close and reopen the stream
Close the event page or streaming app, reopen it, and try playback again. This checks whether the failure was limited to that session.

2. Restart the PC
Save your work and restart Windows, then open the same viewing method again. Restarting is also part of Steam Support’s general troubleshooting guidance for Steam games that fail to launch.
3. Update Windows
Install available Windows updates and restart if prompted. If the problem began immediately after an update, note that timing; the sources do not identify any particular update as a cause of stream crashes.

4. Update relevant computer drivers
Check for updates to the drivers relevant to your PC, such as graphics drivers, using the appropriate update channel for your computer or hardware. Driver updates are a general PC-side check, not a guaranteed stream fix.
5. Close nonessential background programs
Quit programs you do not need while watching, then test the stream again. This is a diagnostic step: if playback works afterward, reopen programs one at a time to see whether the issue follows a particular app. Do not disable security software broadly just to test a stream.

6. Test the browser or app you are using
If the failure happens in only one browser or streaming app, close and reopen that program and test the same stream through another available method. If the problem follows one program, keep troubleshooting that program; changing PC hardware is not the first response to an app-specific failure.
7. Temporarily test VPN routing, if applicable
If you use a VPN and suspect the issue is tied to network routing, temporarily disconnect it and test playback, then restore your usual setting. This is only a diagnostic comparison: the available sources do not establish VPN use as a cause of The Game Awards stream failures.

8. Separate a Steam game problem from a livestream problem
Steam’s file-verification instructions apply when a Steam-installed game is crashing during play—not when an event webpage or video stream fails. For an actual Steam game, restart the PC and Steam, open the game’s Properties, select Installed Files, and choose Verify integrity of game files. Steam Support notes that one or more files can fail verification normally because they are local configuration files.

A video player closing is different from Windows freezing, showing a system crash screen, or restarting. Steam Support’s launch troubleshooting guidance distinguishes whole-computer symptoms from an issue with a Steam game or application: they point to a computer problem. In that situation, record what happened and when, and investigate Windows and the PC rather than treating the event page as the sole cause.

Keep fixes specific to the software involved
Advice such as running a program as administrator or adding an antivirus exception assumes there is a local executable that needs that access. It is not a routine fix for watching a browser livestream. Likewise, Steam file verification cannot repair a browser page. Match the troubleshooting step to the program that actually fails, and avoid broad security exceptions or permanent elevation without a specific, trusted application that requires them.
