The Last of Us Part II Remastered released for Windows on April 3, 2025, through Steam and the Epic Games Store. The official minimum target is 720p at 30 fps on Low, while the recommended target is 1080p at 60 fps on Medium. Every official tier requires 16GB of RAM or more and 150GB of available SSD space; the 4K/60 Very High target specifies 32GB of RAM and an RTX 4080 or RX 7900 XT-class GPU.

Sony’s official PC requirements describe average performance targets, not guaranteed locked frame rates.

What the four tiers really mean

Minimum: 720p/30 on Low

A PC meeting the minimum specification is aimed at a low-settings, 720p experience averaging 30 fps. It is not a 1080p/60 target, and it should not be interpreted as evidence that the game will deliver console-like performance at higher settings.

The minimum configuration requires 16GB of RAM, a GTX 1650 or RX 5500 XT-class GPU, and an SSD. Integrated graphics and older entry-level mobile GPUs may fall short even if the processor and memory appear adequate.

Recommended: 1080p/60 on Medium

The official Recommended tier targets 1080p at 60 fps average using the Medium preset. It is therefore not equivalent to “1080p/60 on High” or maximum settings. An RTX 3060 or RX 5700-class GPU is the published target, alongside a Core i5-8600 or Ryzen 5 3600 and 16GB of RAM.

Actual results vary with your exact CPU, GPU, drivers, memory configuration, resolution, settings, and game version. “Average” does not promise a locked 60 fps in every scene.

High: 1440p/60

For the official 1440p/60 target, Sony lists the High preset, a Core i7-9700 or Ryzen 7 3700X, and an RTX 3070 or RX 6800. The specification describes average performance, so demanding scenes or background processes can still affect frame-time consistency.

Very High: 4K/60

The Very High tier targets 4K/60 and is substantially more demanding: an Intel Core i7-11700 or AMD Ryzen 7 5700X, an RTX 4080 or RX 7900 XT, and 32GB of RAM. This is an enthusiast-level configuration rather than a typical recommended gaming PC.

“4K” describes the output target; upscaling may be used instead of rendering every frame at native 4K internally. Players with less powerful graphics cards should consider a lower internal resolution with upscaling rather than assuming native 4K/60 is practical.

SSD, RAM, and Windows requirements

The SSD requirement is mandatory

The game requires 150GB of available space on an SSD. A mechanical hard drive may have enough capacity, but it does not meet the published requirement and is not a sensible installation target for a game with substantial asset streaming.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

“150GB” means available space for installation, not merely the total size printed on the drive. A 256GB SSD may technically fit the game but leaves little room for Windows, updates, shader caches, and other games. A 500GB SSD is more practical, while a 1TB SSD provides considerably more headroom. NVMe is useful when supported by your motherboard, but the official requirement does not specify NVMe; a SATA SSD also meets the stated SSD condition.

How much RAM is needed?

16GB is specified for Minimum, Recommended, and High. Very High specifies 32GB, so 32GB is the appropriate target if you want the 4K/60 profile or additional headroom while multitasking. It is not listed as mandatory for the lower three tiers.

Windows version

All four tiers require 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11, version 1909 or higher. A compatible 64-bit operating system is separate from the game’s graphics and storage requirements; lowering visual settings will not fix an unsupported Windows installation.

Upscaling and graphics features

The PC version supports modern image-scaling technologies, including Nvidia DLSS 3, AMD FSR 3.1, and Intel XeSS, according to Sony’s feature information. Compatible hardware can also use frame-generation features where supported. The Epic Games Store listing additionally mentions FSR 4; availability and compatibility can depend on the installed game version and GPU.

Upscaling can help a system reach a desired output resolution, but it does not erase CPU, GPU-memory, storage, or driver limitations. It also cannot turn minimum hardware into a guaranteed 1080p/60 machine.

Other PC features include adjustable texture, level-of-detail, volumetric, shadow, ambient-occlusion, and reflection settings; uncapped frame rates; VSync controls; HDR; 3D audio; and DirectStorage support. HDR requires compatible display hardware.

The Last of Us Part I – PlayStation 5
  • Enhanced visuals: Completely rebuilt from the ground up using Naughty Dog’s latest PS5 engine technology to improve every visual detail, The Last of Us experience has been faithfully enhanced with more realistic lighting and atmosphere, more intricate environments and creative reimaginings of familiar spaces.
  • Fast loading: Initial loading times are near instant, and seamless after the first instance thanks to the PS5 console’s SSD – so you can pick up where you left off in the story and load specific encounters and chapters more quickly.
  • Haptic feedback: DualSense wireless controller haptic feedback support for every weapon elevates combat encounters, and environments are brought to life through DualSense wireless controller haptic sensations of subtle falling rain, the crunch of stepping on snow and more.
  • Adaptive triggers: All The Last of Us iconic weapons, including Joel’s revolver and Ellie’s bow, now deliver dynamic DualSense wireless controller trigger resistance and kickback on firing for deeper combat immersion.
  • 3D Audio: Designed to make use of the PS5 console’s Tempest 3D AudioTech, Naughty Dog’s newly upgraded audio engine delivers richer soundscapes, bigger explosive moments and more visceral gameplay through compatible stereo headphones (analogue or USB) or TV speakers.

Ultrawide and multi-monitor support

Naughty Dog says the PC version supports 21:9 ultrawide, 32:9 super-ultrawide, and 48:9 triple-monitor configurations. However, wider displays render more pixels. A 32:9 screen should not be treated as equivalent to standard 1080p or 1440p when estimating GPU demand.

Handheld PC expectations

Naughty Dog designed the graphics presets to scale across hardware ranging from high-end desktops to handheld gaming PCs. That makes systems such as Steam Deck, ROG Ally, Legion Go, and similar devices relevant candidates, but the official requirements do not provide a universal handheld target or guaranteed frame rate.

In practice, handheld results depend on the specific device, power limit, operating mode, resolution, upscaling settings, drivers, and game version. “Scales to handhelds” should not be read as a promise of 60 fps on every handheld.

Keyboard, mouse, controllers, and accounts

  • Keyboard and mouse: supported, with full control remapping, primary and secondary bindings, and an adaptive mode that can combine keyboard and controller inputs.
  • Gamepads: full gamepad support is included.
  • DualSense: adaptive triggers and haptic feedback are supported, but the full feature set requires a wired connection.
  • PlayStation Network: Naughty Dog describes PSN login as optional for the PlayStation overlay, Trophies, and bonuses including 50 in-game points and an Ellie skin.
  • Store accounts: you still need the account associated with your storefront. For example, the Epic listing displays an Epic ID account requirement. A store account and optional PSN linkage are separate matters.

What is included in the PC version?

Alongside the main campaign, the Remastered edition includes No Return, a roguelike survival mode, plus Lost Levels, Guitar Free Play, Photo Mode additions, Speedrun Mode, Descriptive Audio, and Speech to Vibrations. Speedrun Mode requires game progression before it becomes available.

Current patch context

Naughty Dog’s official support index lists PC patches through Patch 1.6, dated July 22, 2025. That update included performance optimizations, stability improvements, Epic-specific crash fixes, ultrawide fixes, and controller and display fixes.

This patch-history snapshot is why launch-day coverage should be treated cautiously. Performance and compatibility can differ from reports published in April 2025, and the installed game should be kept updated.

Which hardware should you upgrade?

If your PC is below minimum

Check the SSD, RAM, GPU, operating system, and CPU independently. Replacing only one component may not solve the problem: a weak GPU, insufficient memory, unsupported drivers, or an HDD can each become a separate bottleneck.

If you meet minimum but want 1080p/60

Use the Recommended tier as your upgrade target: an RTX 3060 or RX 5700-class GPU, a Core i5-8600 or Ryzen 5 3600-class CPU, 16GB of RAM, and an SSD. Upscaling may help, but it is not a substitute for adequate hardware.

If you want 1440p/60

Target the High tier, particularly the RTX 3070 or RX 6800 GPU class and the listed Core i7-9700 or Ryzen 7 3700X CPU class. Treat these as official target examples, not a complete ranking of every compatible graphics card.

If you want 4K/60

Target Very High: RTX 4080 or RX 7900 XT-class graphics, Core i7-11700 or Ryzen 7 5700X-class processing, and 32GB of RAM. If your GPU is below that level, lowering the internal render resolution and using compatible upscaling is the more realistic path.

If you use a laptop

Do not assume a laptop GPU performs like its desktop-named counterpart. Power limits, cooling, and the exact mobile GPU configuration matter. Compare the specific laptop GPU and its wattage rather than relying only on “RTX 3060” or a similar model name.

Bottom line

The Last of Us Part II Remastered is playable on a wide range of Windows PCs, but its official targets are easy to misread. Minimum means 720p/30 on Low; Recommended means 1080p/60 on Medium; High targets 1440p/60; and Very High targets 4K/60 with enthusiast hardware. Plan around a 150GB SSD first, then match your GPU and CPU to the resolution and preset you actually want.
