To complete “The Last Voyage of the ACS Free Market” in The Outer Worlds 2, speak to Archivist Stallworth at Free Market Station, gather evidence supporting her three questions, then report your answers. You do not need every clue: choose routes that match your character’s skills, and avoid unsupported or speculative answers.
Start the investigation at Free Market Station
After reaching the Paradise progression that opens Free Market Station, look for Archivist Stallworth and Guard Seybold arguing in the southwest thoroughfare. Speak with Stallworth and agree to investigate the ACS Free Market wreck. Access is tied to Paradise and the Vox Relay; guides describe it as opening after the relevant Paradise objective or main mission.
Stallworth needs answers to three questions: “How did the ACS Free Market meet its end?”, “What occurred in the ship’s final moments?”, and “Were there any contributing factors to the crash?” You only need enough evidence to unlock supported answers. Obsidian’s official Patch 1.2.0.0 notes say the quest can now be completed even if multiple pieces of evidence were collected before the quest started.
Choose evidence routes that fit your character
Evidence is spread across the wreck, the bazaar, and the 2nd Choice saloon. Some clues support more than one question, so use the table to prioritize routes your character can pass.

| Evidence route | Where and requirement | Questions it can support | Other effects |
|---|---|---|---|
| Otto Riesling’s testimony and journal | Oddments & Gubbin in the bazaar. Read Otto’s journal before speaking with him. Engineering 5 can open a dialogue option; guides also report a route unlocked by buying roughly 1,000 Bits’ worth of items. | How the ship met its end; contributing factors. | Dialogue availability depends on the route used. |
| Otto’s hidden room | From the landing area, head toward the Rift Anomaly, crawl through the low opening, and reach the switches. Use the N-Ray Scanner to reveal the wiring and follow the powered paths in order. | The hidden-room text log may add evidence; specific report-question support is not consistently detailed by guides. | GAMERPILLAR lists an Advanced Decryption Key, Bits, and a Triple Barrel Shotgun in the room. GameSpot reported the switch puzzle appeared bugged when its guide was written; Obsidian’s cited patch note addresses evidence collected before quest start, not a specific puzzle fix. If the puzzle will not work, use another evidence route. |
| Engine debris | At the wreckage by the Rift Anomaly, inspect the larger engine debris with Engineering 8. | How the ship met its end. | Reveals that both engines exploded. |
| Buried audio log | Inspect the smaller wreckage in the same area. Brawny or Sneak 5 is required to retrieve “Another Sunk-Cost Fallacy (1).” | What happened in the final moments. | Provides direct evidence about the ship’s last moments. |
| Sub Rosa archive records | In the 2nd Choice saloon, enter the restroom and crawl through the vent to the cellar. Guides report Hack 8 or obtaining the reminder note from the sleeping guard; GameSpot also describes a Pickpocket perk route and an alternate route after a companion-related quest. | How the ship met its end; contributing factors. | Terminal records provide evidence. Access options vary with character progression and skills. |
| Prospero Paolo’s account | Talk to Prospero near the stage in the 2nd Choice. Bring him Glacial Age Iceberg Aged Whiskey from Chef de Mechanique at the outdoor bazaar bar. Guides report Hack 3 with the chef or Lockpick 5 to enter through the nearby shop and open the bar safe. | How the ship met its end; what happened in the final moments. | Game8 reports a +5 Sub Rosa reputation gain for giving Prospero the whiskey. |
Practical short routes
- If your character has Engineering 8, inspect the large engine debris for evidence about the crash, then pursue a final-moments source such as the buried audio log or Prospero.
- If you have Brawny 5 or Sneak 5, retrieve the audio log for the final-moments question; pair it with Otto or Sub Rosa records for the other answers.
- If you can access Prospero’s whiskey, his account can support both the cause and final-moments answers. Use Otto or Sub Rosa records for contributing factors.
- If a skill check blocks a route, leave it and collect a different clue. Completing every evidence path is unnecessary.
Answer Stallworth’s three questions
Return to Stallworth and choose answers that your evidence has unlocked. Guides identify these combinations as supported options:
- How did the ACS Free Market meet its end? Otto’s account, the engine debris, Prospero’s information, or Sub Rosa records can support an answer.
- What occurred in the ship’s final moments? Use the buried audio log or Prospero’s account.
- Were there any contributing factors to the crash? Otto’s testimony or the Sub Rosa records can provide evidence.
Do not guess or choose an attack response without intending a fight: GameSpot warns that an attack response can make Stallworth and the guards hostile. If an answer sounds uncertain or is not supported by a clue you found, gather another source before reporting.

Quest rewards and choices
Game8 reports a reward of 1,301 Bit Cartridges and XP for answering all three questions, plus 3 Order of the Ascendant reputation. It also describes a Sneak 5 option for 150 extra Bits that gives up the +3 reputation option, and other dialogue routes for additional Order reputation. These are guide-reported outcomes, not a guaranteed fixed Bit payout: another guide reports a different total, with the amount varying by character level.
