To complete “The Lost Boys,” take Lens’s job in Zalissya, search the bunker south of town, then reach Mastiff through the tunnel beneath a nearby shack. After Dew confronts the Ninth, choose whom to support and return to Lens. This guide covers the route and the reported reward trade-off; exact outcomes are not confirmed by official quest documentation.
Start the Lost Boys mission
Speak with Lens, the technician in Zalissya, and ask him about work. He asks you to investigate missing diggers, including their leader, Mastiff. If Lens does not offer the job, progress through the early introductions and main objectives in Zalissya, then speak to him again.

Once you accept, track the quest in your PDA. Its map and mission log help you follow the active objective; see GSC Game World’s PDA guide.
Search the bunker south of Zalissya
- Follow the road south toward the search area and enter the bunker.
- Search the backpack in the hallway for a fuse, then install it in the nearby fuse box.
- Move carefully through rooms with electrical and gravitational anomalies. Throw bolts toward anomalies as you advance; a bolt can briefly interrupt an anomaly, creating an opportunity to pass or reach a body.
- Search the area and read the PDA clue that points you toward Mastiff.
The route and fuse sequence are described in the walkthroughs from Position is Everything and Gamer Guides. Mutated rats and anomaly hazards can make the enclosed spaces dangerous.

Prepare for confined combat
Before entering, reload and bring healing supplies. The official Beginner’s Guide & FAQs recommends keeping bandages and first-aid items available, using cover, choosing an appropriate weapon, and conserving ammunition and healing resources. Manual saving is generally available outside combat unless the story prevents it.
Find Mastiff through the shack tunnel
- Follow the updated map marker to the run-down house.
- When you find its locked main door, look for the smaller shack nearby.
- Break the shack’s padlock and descend through the hole in its floor.
- Follow the connecting tunnel into the locked house. Mastiff is recovering inside.
- Continue to the attic area to meet the Ninth, who says he has been sheltering Mastiff.
The tunnel entrance and route are covered by the Position is Everything walkthrough and Gamer Guides walkthrough.

Choose whether to support Dew or the Ninth
Dew arrives with his group and demands action against the Ninth because of the Ninth’s Monolith past. You can defend the Ninth or side with Dew. The confrontation can unfold around a confined structure, so use cover and avoid open sightlines. GSC’s beginner guidance on using terrain and conserving resources applies here; retreat if a fight becomes too dangerous.
Reported reward differences
Position is Everything reports these outcomes:
| Choice | Reported reward | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Defend the Ninth | Rubber Layer blueprint and 500 coupons from Lens | The guide reports a lower coupon payment, alongside the blueprint. |
| Side with Dew | 1,000 coupons | The guide reports no blueprint. |
These are third-party guide-reported outcomes, not guaranteed current results. Official quest documentation does not specify the rewards, and the detailed figures are not independently established here. The available evidence does not identify a universally best choice: weigh the reported blueprint against the higher reported coupon payment, along with your preferred narrative outcome.

Return to Lens
After the confrontation, go back to Zalissya and report to Lens. If the quest does not seem resolved, check its status in the PDA mission log and review the dialogue state with Lens. The quest-specific sources are third-party walkthroughs, so NPC reactions and rewards may not match their reports in every playthrough.
