The game is a single-player 2D exploration adventure about small birds scattered by a storm. Players explore and platform through a natural world, find separated members of the flock, use their different abilities to open routes, and collect discarded human materials to build and decorate a village. The Steam announcement describes its approach as a “metroidvania experience where combat is replaced with poetic exploration and clumsy platforming”—promotional wording from the game’s publisher, not an independent assessment.
Launch trailer vs. release-date teaser
These names refer to separate videos, not alternate labels for the same trailer. SteamDB’s indexed metadata dates the “The Merlies – Release date teaser” to September 9, 2026, and “The Merlies – release trailer” to September 29, 2026. The first accompanied the release-date announcement; the second accompanied launch.

| Video | Date | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| The Merlies – Release date teaser | September 9, 2026, according to SteamDB’s indexed metadata | Announces the release date |
| The Merlies – release trailer | September 29, 2026, according to SteamDB’s indexed metadata | Accompanies the game’s launch announcement |
The distinction is useful if you are searching for “The Merlies release date trailer”: the date-announcement video is the teaser, while the September 29 video is the launch trailer. The available sources establish their titles, dates, and purposes, but not a scene-by-scene comparison.
Trailer credits
Menhir FX’s indexed project-page entry credits the trailer’s production to Simon Tarsiguel, script to Clément Crosnier, in-game captures and editing to Clément Crosnier and Camille Naulin, and narration to Marc Lustigman and Florence Rivières. The same indexed entry says the edit paired gameplay footage with narration. These credits come from the project-page search extract; the page itself was not accessible for direct verification.
