How the season’s schedule broke down
September: a fast start
Astro Bot arrived September 6, followed by The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom on September 26. The month also included Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 on September 9 and Frostpunk 2 on September 20, according to GameSpot’s release schedule.
October: the busiest stretch
October’s broader schedule included Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred on October 8, Silent Hill 2 on October 8, Metaphor: ReFantazio on October 11, Super Mario Party Jamboree on October 17, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Sonic X Shadow Generations on October 25, and Dragon Age: The Veilguard on October 31. The slate mixed new entries with expansions and remakes, rather than consisting entirely of wholly new games. GameSpot’s schedule.

November: Nintendo and flight simulation
Mario & Luigi: Brothership was announced for November 7, with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 following on November 19. Xbox Wire’s September 27 weekly preview described Starfield: Shattered Space as a “new story expansion,” so it belongs in a fall-release discussion only when clearly labeled as additional content for an existing game. The preview also warned that release dates were subject to change. Xbox Wire’s weekly preview.
Choose by platform and the kind of game you want
- For Nintendo Switch: The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, Super Mario Party Jamboree, and Mario & Luigi: Brothership were announced for the same platform, with dates spread from late September to early November. Nintendo’s announcements.

- For Xbox Series X|S and PC: Dragon Age: The Veilguard and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 were listed for both. Flight Simulator’s announcement also included cloud access through Game Pass at launch. GameSpot’s schedule; Xbox Wire.
- For a particular franchise or genre: The shortlist spans platforming, party games, role-playing adventures, and flight simulation. A release calendar can show when and where a game was scheduled, but not whether its style will suit you.
What “most anticipated” means here
There was no single objective anticipation ranking established for fall 2024. The picks above are an editorial selection based on the significance of the releases, their announced platforms, and their place in a season that drew attention for its concentration of games. TIME’s December 2024 retrospective discussed the fall release pile-up and skepticism surrounding the Silent Hill 2 remake, illustrating why the season’s notable releases should not be mistaken for a measured ranking of public demand. Rank #2
- Blast off on a high-octane adventure to save a star system from invasion
- Tear through space, soar across planets, and shoot loads of foes out of the sky at every step of the way
- A cinematic take on the Star Fox 64 story, featuring fully voiced dialogue, an epic orchestral soundtrack, and a complete visual overhaul for the Nintendo Switch 2 system
- Enter first-person mode to experience the action from inside the cockpit, and even use mouse controls to fly

The list is also not a complete calendar. Other scheduled releases—including Space Marine 2, Frostpunk 2, Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred, Metaphor: ReFantazio, Black Ops 6, Sonic X Shadow Generations, and Silent Hill 2—show how wide the season was. Some were expansions or remakes, not entirely new games. Availability, editions, and current stock are not established by the release announcements and schedule cited here.
