Why the exact printing matters
“Traveling Chocobo” is not specific enough to identify the highest-priced version: the top four entries are separate Neon Ink variants, distinguished by collector number (#551a through #551d). The same issue applies to other characters. Cloud appears twice in the top ten, once as FIN #520 Surge Foil and once as FIN #564 Chocobo Track Foil; they are different collectible versions with different index prices.

TCGplayer’s listings also distinguish regular, borderless, extended-art, Surge Foil, and Chocobo Track Foil versions of Cloud. When checking a card, match the collector number and treatment rather than relying on its character or card name alone. View TCGplayer’s Cloud, Midgar Mercenary listings.
What the ranking says about the price gap
The four Traveling Chocobo Neon Ink entries form a clear lead in this snapshot. The listed price falls from $1,852.11 for the fourth-ranked version to $836.66 for fifth-ranked Sephiroth, a gap of more than half the fourth-place figure. After Sephiroth, the next entries are Cloud, Lightning, Vivi Ornitier, another Cloud printing, and Buster Sword, each in the particular premium treatment shown above.

That is a ranking of versions and finishes, not a claim that the names themselves have a fixed value. Collector number and treatment are essential to interpreting the comparison.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsHow to check a card’s value fairly
- Identify the exact printing. Compare the card name, collector number, border treatment, and foil type. For example, distinguish Traveling Chocobo #551c Neon Ink from #551a, #551b, and #551d.
- Compare like with like. Match finish, language, and condition when reviewing listings or market references. The index provides market prices but does not give a condition-adjusted appraisal or a formal language adjustment formula.
- Check the quote date and basis. TCG Strat’s October 1 figures are based on TCGplayer market prices. Its search result showed a refreshed October 8 figure of $1,920.35 for the leading card, illustrating that the price can change; that later number is not part of the October 1 ranking.
- Treat a market figure as a reference, not a payout promise. A marketplace index is not a guarantee of what a particular copy will sell for. TCGplayer notes that demand and print supply can move prices; condition and the specific listing also matter.
For an individual card, search by the full name and version—for instance, “Traveling Chocobo Borderless Neon Ink” or “Cloud Midgar Mercenary Borderless Surge Foil”—then verify the collector number and finish on the listing. Availability can change, and a listing price is not proof that a copy sold at that amount.

Are these prices for sealed products or individual cards?
The ranking covers individual cards, not booster boxes, bundles, or Commander decks. TCGplayer’s buyer guide lists release MSRP categories—including a $6.99 Play Booster, a $37.99 Collector Booster, a $69.99 Commander Deck, a $149.99 Collector’s Edition Commander Deck, a $69.99 Bundle, an $89.99 Gift Bundle, and a $19.99 Starter Kit. Those are the guide’s published MSRP figures, not current retail prices; the guide also cautions that prices can fluctuate with demand and print supply. Read TCGplayer’s FINAL FANTASY buyer guide.
