Yes—The Necromancer’s Tale is announced for Nintendo Switch 2. Psychic Software says the gothic, choice-driven RPG will launch globally on Switch 2, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S later in 2026. The announcement does not give an exact day, price or pre-order date.

The Switch 2 edition is planned as a worldwide digital release through Nintendo eShop. That establishes the distribution plan, but not a physical cartridge edition or any technical details such as resolution, frame rate or performance settings.

Release status: platform confirmed, date still broad

Psychic Software announced the console version on March 10, 2026. Its official release statement says: “The Necromancer’s Tale will launch globally on PlayStation 5, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch 2 later in 2026.” The same announcement says additional timing, pricing and pre-order information would follow, with official dates still to be confirmed. You can read the announcement at Psychic Software’s official press release.

What kind of game is The Necromancer’s Tale?

Psychic Software describes the project as a gothic, narrative-driven role-playing game that was originally released on PC. The publisher’s wording is: “Originally released on PC, The Necromancer’s Tale is a deeply narrative-driven RPG that blends haunting storytelling with strategic choice and consequence.” The console edition carries that same premise rather than presenting a newly announced genre spin-off.

An 18th-century noble at the center

You play a minor noble in the 18th century who becomes involved with necromancy. The central tension is not simply whether to fight monsters; it is how to hide forbidden activities while maintaining a public life. The announced scenario places secrecy, diplomacy, blackmail and coercion alongside supernatural rites.

That setup gives the game two connected pressures. Your character must manage relationships and reputation in a society that cannot safely know what is happening, while also dealing with the consequences of exploring powers that can change the character’s moral and psychological state. The publisher specifically frames the story as a descent into madness, so the supernatural plot and the protagonist’s stability are part of the same dramatic arc.

Branching narrative rather than a single route

Consequential dialogue and branching paths are listed among the core mechanics. Conversations are therefore presented as decisions with lasting effects, not only as a way to deliver background text. The available description does not map every branch or state exactly, so the number of possible endings and the conditions for reaching them remain unknown.

How the announced systems fit together

Dialogue, secrecy and social leverage

The social side of the game revolves around choices that can protect or expose the protagonist. Diplomacy suggests working through persuasion and alliances; blackmail and coercion offer more aggressive ways to obtain cooperation. These approaches are announced features, not a promise that every situation can be solved by any one method. The practical question for players will be how the game reacts when a tactic succeeds, fails or creates a later liability.

Because the story is described as branching, a conversation can be more than a short-term skill check. A choice may alter who trusts the protagonist, which information becomes available or how openly the necromantic activity can continue. The announcement confirms consequence-driven dialogue but does not yet publish a complete ruleset for reputation, relationship scores or investigation systems.

Forbidden rites

Necromancy is represented through forbidden rites. The available material does not list individual rituals, resource costs or a spell catalogue, so those details should not be assumed. What is clear is that supernatural practice is a major pillar of the narrative rather than a cosmetic theme: it is tied to secrecy, moral pressure and the character’s increasingly unstable situation.

Turn-based combat with undead minions

Combat is tactical and turn-based, with undead minions fighting alongside the player character. Turn order, positioning, abilities and enemy variety have not been detailed in the cited announcements, but the structure indicates deliberate decisions between actions instead of real-time attacks.

The publisher also says combat can be optionally auto-resolved. That gives players a choice about how much attention to spend on battles: those who enjoy tactical encounters can handle them manually, while those primarily interested in the narrative can allow the system to resolve them. Auto-resolution is described as optional, so it does not replace the announced tactical mode.

Published scope figures

Psychic Software’s announcement claims more than 400,000 words of branching narrative and more than 180 unique non-player characters. Those are publisher-provided figures for the 2026 announcement, not numbers independently audited in the available material. They indicate the intended scale of the story and cast, but they do not by themselves establish how much text appears in a single playthrough.

What the Switch 2 announcement does—and does not—tell us

Digital eShop distribution

Nintendo Insider reports that the Switch 2 release is planned for worldwide digital distribution through Nintendo eShop. “Worldwide” describes the announced reach, while the digital designation describes the channel; it does not provide a launch date for every regional storefront or guarantee that local ratings and currencies will appear simultaneously.

A digital eShop plan also means the game is not being presented as a package bundled with the console. Anyone who wants to play on Nintendo’s hardware will need access to a Nintendo Switch 2 and will obtain the game separately through the eShop once it is released.

No confirmed physical cartridge

Neither cited source confirms a physical Switch 2 cartridge. The safest reading is that digital eShop distribution is the only Switch 2 format announced so far. That is not the same as a definitive statement that a cartridge can never exist; it means there is no sourced physical edition to pre-order or compare at present.

No performance or feature parity details

The announcements do not specify Switch 2 resolution, frame rate, display modes, loading times, control features, save behavior or visual differences from the PC, PlayStation 5 or Xbox versions. They also do not state whether the console versions share identical content. Until the developer publishes technical information, claims about 60 frames per second, enhanced visuals or a particular control scheme would be speculation.

Timeline of the announcement

  1. March 10, 2026: Psychic Software announces The Necromancer’s Tale for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2, targeting a global launch later in 2026. The statement says official dates, pricing and pre-order information are still to come.
  2. March 24, 2026: Nintendo Insider reports the Switch 2 version as a worldwide digital Nintendo eShop release planned for 2026.
  3. Next confirmed milestone: A specific launch date and price from the publisher or an official Nintendo eShop listing. Neither is present in the cited announcements.

What prospective Switch 2 players should watch for

The next useful announcement will need to answer more than “2026.” A day-and-date listing can establish the exact release date, regional availability and price in each storefront. A store page may also clarify download size, supported languages, age rating and whether the game is sold as a native Switch 2 product.

Players interested in physical ownership should look for an explicit cartridge announcement rather than infer one from the existence of console versions. Likewise, performance expectations should wait for a specification sheet, developer statement or an official product page; the current material contains no frame-rate or resolution commitment.

For now, the purchase decision is straightforward but limited. If you already own a Switch 2, the announced route is a separate digital eShop purchase later in 2026. If you do not own the platform, the announcement confirms only that Nintendo’s new hardware is supported; it does not include the console or establish a hardware-and-game bundle.

Why the premise may appeal to RPG players

The game combines three forms of decision-making that are often separated in role-playing games. Social choices determine how the protagonist navigates other people; forbidden rites shape the supernatural problem; and turn-based battles ask for tactical decisions with undead allies. The same character can therefore be tested in conversation, clandestine planning and combat.

The gothic setting also gives those systems a common consequence: every solution risks exposure or personal deterioration. Diplomacy may preserve secrecy, while blackmail or coercion may solve an immediate obstacle at a social cost. Necromantic power may provide an advantage while accelerating the promised descent into madness. The announcements establish that these themes and mechanics coexist, but they do not prescribe a single “good” approach or reveal how many endings the branches produce.

Bottom line on the Switch 2 version

The Necromancer’s Tale is a real, announced Nintendo Switch 2 release planned for later in 2026, with worldwide digital distribution through Nintendo eShop. Its gothic premise, branching dialogue, forbidden rites and turn-based undead combat are clearly described. The facts still missing are the ones that determine a purchase date: exact launch day, price, pre-order timing, physical availability and technical performance.
