The Necrotic Wake was one of eight Mythic+ dungeons in World of Warcraft: The War Within Season 1, which began in September 2024. It was not in the eight-dungeon Mythic+ pool that Blizzard listed for Season 3 in August 2025. The official sources we could check do not confirm whether it is in the Midnight Season 2 pool, which began August 20, 2026. This page is therefore a status check, not a current route or boss guide.

Season 1: where The Necrotic Wake was confirmed
Blizzard’s September 10, 2024 announcement set the start of The War Within Season 1 Mythic+ for the week of September 17, 2024 and named The Necrotic Wake as one of the season’s eight dungeons. That is the clearest confirmed appearance of the dungeon in The War Within’s Mythic+ rotation. Any route, boss, or affix advice written for that season reflects the tuning and encounter details of 2024, and should be read as historical.
Season 3: what the absence shows and what it does not
Blizzard’s Season 3 announcement, published for the August 2025 update, lists a different eight-dungeon pool, and The Necrotic Wake is not on it. That tells you the dungeon was not part of Season 3’s listed pool. It does not show that the dungeon was retired for good. Blizzard rotates Mythic+ pools between seasons, so a dungeon can be absent in one season and return in another. Judging from the Season 3 list alone, you cannot tell whether it has returned since.
Midnight Season 2: what is and is not established
Blizzard China’s notice dated July 29, 2026 confirms that Midnight Season 2 begins August 20, 2026. The notice we retrieved did not show which dungeons are in that season’s Mythic+ pool, so we cannot confirm whether The Necrotic Wake is included. Do not assume the dungeon is active because it appeared in an earlier season, and do not assume it is absent because it was missing from Season 3.

How to check whether the dungeon is in the current pool
- Open Blizzard’s official World of Warcraft news and find the announcement for the current Midnight season. Season start posts list the Mythic+ dungeons when Blizzard publishes them. Check the full post, not only a summary.
- Log in and open the Group Finder. Choose the Mythic+ category and review the dungeons offered for the current season. Menu labels can change between patches, so look for the Mythic+ listing rather than a fixed click path.
- Record the date you checked. Pools can change between seasons, so a result from one week may not hold the next.
Why this page does not include route or boss advice
Tactical advice for a Mythic+ dungeon depends on the current pool, the current encounter abilities, and the affixes active that week. The sources we could check do not establish any of those for the current season, so offering route steps or boss tactics here would imply a currency the evidence does not support. A current guide would need the following before it gives tactical instructions:
- An official current-season Mythic+ pool that names The Necrotic Wake (or confirms its absence).
- Current boss and trash ability references from official or otherwise authoritative sources, tied to the patch that is live.
- Route comparisons that state required enemy count, dangerous trash casts, group composition and interrupt needs, time cost, and how each season affix changes those points.
Until those are in place, use the Season 1 facts above as historical context only.
