The car that made its mark in Need for Speed: Most Wanted is based on a real BMW: the E46 M3 GTR. For the franchise’s 30th anniversary, BMW M recreated the 2001 competition car in a silver-and-blue livery inspired by the game. It is a tribute race car, not a newly released road-going model.
Which car from Most Wanted did BMW bring to life?
BMW M’s tribute is an E46 BMW M3 GTR wearing a silver-blue design inspired by the car in Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2005). BMW associates the game car with Clarence Callahan, better known as Razor. The recreation was announced in December 2024 for the franchise’s 30th anniversary.
BMW described the project as bringing a virtual icon to reality by recreating the E46 M3 GTR that starred in the game. The important distinction is that the tribute is a real competition car in game-inspired colors—not a mass-produced road car or a new consumer model.
The real racing car behind the game version
The E46 M3 GTR was a BMW M Motorsport competition car developed for the American Le Mans Series. BMW says the racing version served as the model for the car in Most Wanted. The anniversary tribute connects that motorsport history with the game’s familiar silver-blue look.
