What HaloCEVR adds to the original Halo
The project lists 6DoF synced stereo and tracked controllers, with weapons and grenades aimed through motion controls. Two-handed aiming is supported, and applicable weapons have a functional picture-in-picture scope. Controls can be rebound, with a left-handed preset available. The HaloCEVR project repository is the primary source for its feature list and setup instructions.
Other listed features adapt familiar actions and interface elements for VR: motion-controlled melee uses head-aiming; tapping the head activates the flashlight; crouching is motion-controlled; and shoulder holsters provide a way to switch weapons. Players can swap weapons between hands, use a detached floating UI and floating crosshair, and steer vehicles with the joystick.

Which Halo edition works—and which does not
HaloCEVR targets the original PC release of Halo: Combat Evolved. The project explicitly says it does not work with Halo: The Master Chief Collection. It also specifies the original PC game rather than Halo Custom Edition. This is a community conversion, not official VR support for either game.
Before setting it up, check that your game copy and edition match the project’s instructions. The repository does not provide a confirmed headset-by-headset compatibility matrix, so it cannot establish that a particular headset or runtime will work in every configuration.

Requirements and installation options
The project describes both an automatic installer and a manual installation. Its manual instructions call for a legitimate copy of the original PC game patched to version 1.0.10. They recommend installing the game outside Program Files, where permissions problems can interfere with setup, and then extracting the mod files into the game directory. On the first launch, the mod generates a configuration file in its VR folder. Follow the repository’s current directions, since releases and setup details may change.
Chimera appears in the project’s optional instructions; it is not listed as a core requirement. The setup documentation refers to OpenVR and recommends using SteamVR’s desktop display for mirroring. These details describe the project’s PC VR setup, but do not confirm compatibility with a particular headset model.

First-launch note
A HaloCEVR FAQ discussion reports that, at the start of the campaign, players may need to focus the game and move the mouse to get past the look-around prompt. If the prompt does not advance, try that step before troubleshooting the headset or controller setup.
