The Outlast Trials Enemy Weaknesses and Counters, Explained

The Outlast Trials has a few documented enemy-specific counters, not a universal weakness chart. Here’s what Red Barrels says about the Pitcher, Scapegoat, and The Biter.

There is no documented universal weakness chart for enemies in The Outlast Trials. Red Barrels’ official guidance supports a few specific responses: keep your distance from the Pitcher, and use the Tracker followed by the Microwave Trigger for the Scapegoat objective. For The Biter, the developer confirms its arrival in 2026 but does not document a specific counter in the official material cited here.

What counts as a documented counter?

A named response in an official update is not the same as a general tip or a guarantee that a device will stop every enemy. The clearest documented counters are tied to particular encounters. Stealth, items found in a map, and your Rig are broader evasion tools—not proof that a given enemy has a specific weakness.

Advice can also depend on the trial and its modifiers. Red Barrels says difficulty rises with progress through Programs and Trial Variators, so treat older balance descriptions as historical and check current in-game hints or patch notes when a detail matters to your run. How do you counter the Pitcher?

Keep your distance and watch where fire lands. Red Barrels’ December 6, 2024 Project Breach announcement says the Pitcher throws Molotov Cocktails that explode on impact and leave dangerous fire zones. At close range, it can also use fiery breath. The developer’s advice is direct: “Stay sharp and keep your distance—if you get too close, the Pitcher will unleash its fiery breath to roast you alive!”

The announcement does not establish a special damage vulnerability or say that a particular Rig reliably interrupts the Pitcher. Use spacing and avoid the resulting fire zones as the documented response; do not assume an unverified device or damage type is a weakness.

How do you find and stop the Scapegoat?

In the Scapegoat objective, use the Tracker to pinpoint the target, then use the Microwave Trigger device against it. Red Barrels’ October 2023 patch notes describe this objective-specific procedure. It is not evidence that the Tracker or Microwave Trigger is a general counter to ordinary Ex-Pop enemies.

What is The Biter weak to?

No specific weakness or counter is documented in the official material cited here. Red Barrels’ July 9, 2026 Project Boneyard announcement identifies The Biter as a new Ex-Pop in Prison Farm and the “Bribe the Judges” and “Cancel the Broadcast” MK-Challenges. The Season 7 patch notes also identify the enemy as new content, but the reviewed descriptions do not establish an attack pattern or dedicated counter. Check the current in-game hints and patch notes rather than treating a guessed weakness as confirmed.

What about other enemies and general evasion?

Screamer behavior is version-sensitive

Red Barrels’ October 2023 notes say the Screamer’s former stun effect was replaced by brief confusion, and that its detection and area-of-effect ranges were reduced and tuned. Those are dated balance notes, not a guarantee of its present behavior. Check the October 2023 notes alongside current game information if you need exact behavior.

Use evasion tools without mistaking them for weaknesses

Red Barrels’ Early Access update recommends stealth, items found in the map, and your Rig to evade enemies. Its 1.0 announcement historically described the Invisible Amp as preventing enemies from finding a player in a hiding spot, even if the player peeks. That description alone does not establish the Amp’s current availability or effect, so verify it in-game before building a strategy around it. Red Barrels’ 1.0 announcement
