The Simpsons: Tapped Out is no longer playable through its service: EA delisted it on October 31, 2024, and shut down its servers in January 2025. The announced shutdown date was January 24; a specialist wiki reports that the game actually became inaccessible at 23:00 GMT on January 25.
When did The Simpsons: Tapped Out shut down?
EA announced that The Simpsons: Tapped Out would be removed from app stores on October 31, 2024, and that its servers would be turned off on January 24, 2025. EA said players could continue playing until that announced date, after which the game would not be accessible. Its farewell message, reproduced in Tapped Out Addicts’ September 2024 archive, stated: “You may continue playing until January 24th, 2025, at which point servers will be turned off and TSTO will not be accessible.”
That was the announced date, not the final observed cutoff: the Tapped Out Wiki reports that the game became inaccessible at 23:00 GMT on January 25, 2025. The distinction matters because the recorded cutoff came after EA’s stated shutdown date.
Why did EA close the game?
EA’s farewell announcement did not give a specific reason for ending Tapped Out. EA’s general service-shutdown policy says that services may be retired when the remaining audience makes the behind-the-scenes operations infeasible. That is general context about EA’s policy, not a confirmed explanation for this game’s closure.

Can you still play Tapped Out offline?
No reviewed source reports that EA converted Tapped Out into an offline game. EA’s general policy says some retired services may still be playable offline, depending on the game, but that does not establish offline support for Tapped Out. With the game’s servers retired, reinstalling the app or switching devices does not restore access to its service.
What happened to purchases and old content?
EA disabled in-app purchases as part of the sunset. Its announcement does not establish a blanket refund policy. If you have a question about a specific transaction or account, contact EA Help; whether a refund is available depends on the circumstances and applicable rules.

EA’s reproduced FAQ said content from earlier years would return in weekly waves during the final five weeks of service. This was a limited pre-shutdown return of content, not a continuing way to obtain it after the servers closed. The farewell message credited the game with 308 updates, 831 characters and 1,463 questlines; those are figures attributed to EA in 2024 and reproduced in Tapped Out Addicts’ archive.

There is no verified way to restore access to the retired game service. Unofficial APKs or private servers are not established replacements, and the sources do not verify a current preservation project. Other Simpsons games or entertainment may appeal to franchise fans, but they are not substitutes for access to Tapped Out.
