These are the Build Mode keyboard shortcuts listed in an older EA Forums community post, grouped by task for quick reference. EA’s official tips and tricks page confirms that The Sims 4 has PC/Mac hotkeys, but it does not provide a current, complete Build Mode key map. Treat the detailed mappings below as a helpful reference, not a guarantee for every platform, keyboard layout, or game update; check your current controls if a shortcut does not work.
Build Mode tool and view shortcuts
The older community list associates these keys with common Build Mode tools and lot controls:

Object placement, rotation, and editing

Alt and Shift are context-sensitive in this list: their placement behavior depends on what you are dragging or placing. The symbols < and > are reported as the rotation keys; their physical keys can vary with keyboard layout.

Wall, floor, and terrain paint shortcuts
- Alt: flood-fill a wall pattern while placing wall patterns.
- Shift: flood-fill floor or wall paint in the relevant placement context.
- Ctrl + F: toggle quarter-tile floor paint.
- Ctrl with the terrain-paint catalog open: toggle between terrain paint and the eraser.
- ; and ': adjust terrain-brush softness.
The community post’s rendering does not clearly identify the terrain-brush size decrease key, so it is not included here rather than guessed.
Mac keyboard note
An EA Forums reply suggests Fn + Left and Fn + Right as equivalents for Home and End on some Mac keyboards. This is an anecdotal compatibility tip, not a universal Mac mapping; keyboard behavior may depend on the hardware and settings.

Build Mode shortcuts versus cheats
Cheat entry is separate from ordinary Build Mode hotkeys. EA’s cheats FAQ says Ctrl + Shift + C opens the cheat console on PC/Mac. Type a build-mode cheat such as bb.moveobjects into that console; it is not itself a keyboard shortcut for selecting a Build Mode tool.
Platform and update caveats
The detailed list above is not broken out into verified Windows and macOS mappings, and it should not be assumed that every key works identically across platforms or keyboard layouts. Console players use a different control scheme; EA’s console-entry guidance does not establish a controller-based equivalent for each Build Mode keyboard shortcut. If a key has no effect, check the controls in your current game and consider whether the selected tool, catalog, or object context is required.
