To reach the Underworld during The Stolen Cat Mummy, return to the Tower of Nicholas V after Antonio interprets the Vatican photographs. Use his wine at the chapel altar to activate the mural mechanism, align its disc to open the hidden passage, and solve the Sacred Wounds puzzle from the mural and nearby clues. The optional Parade Helmet is at the top of the broken spiral staircase, before you descend.
Return to the Tower of Nicholas V
After Antonio studies the Vatican photographs, follow the objective Find the Underworld Gate back to the Tower of Nicholas V. Antonio identifies the gate beneath the tower and provides wine for the mechanism. This is the story route into the Underworld, not the separate sewer objective associated with the Mad Priest. Open the concealed passage
- Photograph the Strange Mural. In the chapel area, use Indy’s camera on the mural so the clue is recorded.
- Pour Antonio’s wine into the altar basin. This activates the hidden mural mechanism and reveals its rotating disc.
- Turn the disc to match the mural’s visual clue. Align the angel above the devil, as shown in the scene, to open the passage. Follow the image rather than a clockwise or counter-clockwise instruction; guides describe the orientation differently. Collect the optional Parade Helmet
Before descending the broken spiral staircase, look up and climb or jump across its broken sections to reach the top. The Parade Helmet is an optional pickup there. Once you have it—or if you choose to skip it—descend the staircase toward the Underworld.
Solve the Sacred Wounds puzzle
At the Sacred Wounds room, photograph the central mural, then inspect the adjoining areas for the related wound depictions and Roman numeral clues. One clue can be seen through a crevice in a wall, so check the surrounding spaces rather than relying on the central mural alone. Use the clues you find to set the mural latches.

The available walkthrough information establishes how to gather and apply the clues, but not a dependable sequence of latch positions. Read the symbols and numerals in your own game and match them to the corresponding latches; an unverified fixed combination could send you in the wrong direction. Keep the two Vatican routes separate
The Tower’s concealed Underworld Gate is the route for The Stolen Cat Mummy. The Mad Priest sewer objective is separate; sewer entry instructions do not explain how to open the altar mural or reach the Sacred Wounds room.
