Its Grass/Fairy typing, balanced defenses and high Special Attack make it a flexible choice, while its official profile says it can fire Solar Beam instantly after Mega Evolution. That is a reasoned pick—not an official ranking or proof that it wins every matchup.
How to judge the strongest Grass Pokémon
In Pokémon Legends: Z-A, a stat line is only part of the answer. Pokémon and trainers act in real time, so switching opportunities, move execution time, area of effect and type matchups also matter. Nintendo’s game page highlights those battle considerations. A Pokémon with a strong attack stat may still be a poor fit for a particular matchup or moment.
There is no official all-Grass ranking established by the sources cited here. The practical comparison below is limited to Mega Meganium, Mega Chesnaught and Mega Victreebel, using their described roles and the available stat table.
How the three Grass Mega Evolutions compare
The figures below come from Pokémon GO Hub’s October 16, 2025 article, which says the values were datamined from game files and checked by community sources. The article excludes Pokémon and Mega Evolutions exclusive to the Mega Dimension DLC; these numbers therefore are not a complete post-DLC roster or a competitive ranking. See the stat table and its scope.

| Pokémon | Role | Typing | HP | Attack | Defense | Special Attack | Special Defense | Speed |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mega Meganium | Balanced, general-purpose | Grass/Fairy | 80 | 92 | 115 | 143 | 115 | 80 |
| Mega Chesnaught | Defensive | Grass/Fighting | 88 | 137 | 172 | 74 | 115 | 44 |
| Mega Victreebel | Aggressive | Grass/Poison | 80 | 125 | 85 | 135 | 95 | 70 |
Why Mega Meganium is the best general-purpose pick
Mega Meganium has the strongest all-around case in this comparison: its 143 Special Attack is the highest of the three, its 115 Defense and 115 Special Defense provide a more balanced defensive profile than Victreebel’s, and its 80 Speed is well above Chesnaught’s 44. Its secondary Fairy typing also distinguishes its matchup profile from the other candidates. The Pokémon Company’s official Mega Meganium profile says it can fire Solar Beam instantly after Mega Evolution and describes it as stronger in physical combat. These traits support flexibility, but they do not establish a universal winner.
When to choose Mega Chesnaught or Mega Victreebel
Mega Chesnaught for durability
Mega Chesnaught is the defensive specialist. Its listed 172 Defense is the highest in this comparison, with 115 Special Defense as well. The Pokémon Company says Mega Evolution greatly bolsters its defenses in its official Mega Chesnaught profile. Its 44 Speed is the lowest of the three, so it is less compelling if you value quick action or repositioning.

- As you catch, train, and battle Pokémon, there will be plenty of people to meet too—like AZ, the enigmatic owner of Hotel Z.
Mega Victreebel for offense and disruption
Mega Victreebel has a more aggressive profile, pairing 125 Attack with 135 Special Attack. Its official profile describes powerful tackles and an acid effect that can immobilize opponents; that disruption may matter as much as raw damage in a real-time fight. Read The Pokémon Company’s Mega Victreebel profile. Its 85 Defense is the lowest of the three, so the higher offensive numbers alone do not make it the safest or strongest option overall.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What this comparison can—and cannot—settle
The available numbers and official descriptions make Mega Meganium a defensible broad recommendation, with Chesnaught for defense and Victreebel for pressure. They do not establish an objective winner across every opponent, move choice or battle situation. The stat source is a dated, community-verified datamine table with DLC-exclusive additions omitted, and no official ranking or current post-DLC usage tier is cited here. For a specific fight, consider the opponent’s type, when you can safely switch, and how each move’s timing and area of effect fit the encounter.
