The Temple of Elemental Evil is already available on Steam: publisher SNEG announced its release on December 10, 2025. The Steam edition brings Troika Games’ 2003 Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game back with publisher-described updates for modern systems, and it has received several post-launch patches. SNEG’s launch announcement is the clearest reference for what the release promises.

Is The Temple of Elemental Evil on Steam?

Yes. SNEG announced that The Temple of Elemental Evil: A Classic Greyhawk Adventure was available on Steam on December 10, 2025. This is a re-release of the 2003 game, not a new sequel. For the current regional price, availability, and storefront details, check the Steam store listing.

What kind of game is it?

Developed by Troika Games, The Temple of Elemental Evil is a computer role-playing game set in Greyhawk and built around the Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 ruleset. The original manual describes it as the first game to use D&D 3.5. The Steam release returns to that same game and setting rather than adapting the tabletop adventure into a new title. SNEG’s game page and the original game manual provide those details.

What does the Steam release change?

SNEG says the re-release was updated for modern systems, with improvements to performance, user-interface elements, AI, pathfinding, stability, and quality of life. Those are the publisher’s descriptions, not the results of independent performance testing. SNEG also credits the Circle of Eight and Temple+ modding communities for work that helped bring the game forward.

That credit does not establish that the Steam package contains every feature from either community’s mods, or that those mods are included as separate components. If a particular mod feature matters to you, the launch announcement does not confirm its inclusion.

What changed in post-launch patches?

Official updates added features and fixed specific issues after the December 2025 launch. The Steam Community news archive contains the publisher’s patch announcements.

December 2025: usability and stability fixes

A December 14 update described smoother camera movement, changed default mouse settings, an optional WASD camera control, and container highlighting. It also listed fixes involving a possible Python-related crash, merchant inventories, and scripts. The announcement warned of a remaining chance that merchant data in an existing save could be corrupted and provided a workaround; consult the post for its instructions if you encounter that problem.

May 2026: Steam achievements and gameplay fixes

Patch #2 added Steam achievements and addressed issues involving Melf’s Acid Arrow, experience gain at level 10 for crafting, and curse removal. According to the patch announcement, most achievements can unlock retroactively when an existing save is loaded. Location-based achievements require revisiting the relevant places. PC Gamer’s May 24, 2026 report also summarizes the achievement addition and selected fixes.

Is this the tabletop Temple of Elemental Evil adventure?

No. The Steam product is the digital computer RPG. The Temple of Elemental Evil is also the name of a tabletop D&D adventure associated with the game’s source material, but a physical adventure module is a separate product—not a Steam key, a computer-game edition, or a substitute for the digital release. The original manual describes the game’s Greyhawk setting and D&D 3.5 basis.

What to check before buying

  • Use the Steam listing for current price, regional availability, and system requirements; those details can change and are not established by the launch and patch announcements.
  • Do not treat the original manual’s CD-ROM-era hardware requirements as requirements for the Steam build.
  • If you are buying for a specific Circle of Eight or Temple+ feature, verify that feature separately; community credit does not confirm that every mod feature ships with the game.
