When did The Tomb release in Black Ops 6?
The Tomb launched on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, with Season 02. Call of Duty’s January 22 announcement set the season launch for 9 a.m. PT across platforms. Read the Season 02 announcement.

The map follows the events at Citadelle des Morts. Weaver, Maya, Carver, and Grey bring an amulet to a cursed dig site and its catacombs in search of the Sentinel Artifact, with the mission potentially connected to freeing Samantha Maxis from the Dark Aether.
What is The Tomb’s Main Quest and its reward?
The Main Quest was available at launch. During the launch period, players who completed it before Directed Mode was released were offered the X91 Ice-Pike Staff of Ice skin, 5,000 XP, and a unique Calling Card. That Calling Card offer was tied to the pre-Directed Mode deadline; it should not be read as a reward currently available on the same terms.

Call of Duty’s official map guide provides preparation and map-intel guidance, not a complete step-by-step Easter Egg walkthrough. It describes revealing and collecting Staff of Ice parts in two sequences before a ritual, and directs players to follow the on-screen objectives. The guide also covers the map and its first ten rounds rather than every Easter Egg step. Read the official Tomb map guide.
Directed Mode
Directed Mode guides players through quest objectives. Milestones raise its round limit, which caps at round 15; that limit repeats until the quest is complete. It is a guided route, rather than evidence that every quest step is explained in the general map-intel guide.

What does the Staff of Ice do, and how do you get it?
The Staff of Ice is The Tomb’s map-exclusive Wonder Weapon. Its frost blast slows and freezes enemies, and it can unleash a stronger area attack. A precision restorative shot can revive teammates from a distance. Activision describes the weapon as able to generate healing energies to resuscitate allies.
The official map guide says the staff is assembled through a ritual after players reveal and collect its components. It mentions shooting revealed runes in numerical order as part of one objective; that detail is not a full quest walkthrough.

Preparation the official guide suggests
- Bring a primary weapon that is at least Pack-a-Punched once and at Rare (blue) rarity. This is suggested preparation, not a hard requirement.
- Jugger-Nog and Speed Cola may help you survive the ritual.
- Once the Dark Aether Nexus is open, its portal can shorten travel between areas. Stone maps at major points of interest help locate the Mystery Box and Pack-a-Punch.
- The Pack-a-Punch machine moves within the Dark Aether Nexus; use the etched stone map to find its current position.
Which iconic SMG returns in The Tomb?
The cited 115 Day post teases that “one of the most iconic SMGs in Zombies history” is coming along for the ride, but does not name the weapon or explain exactly what form its return takes. The official map guide lists a TANTO .22 SMG wall buy, but does not connect it to the teaser. Therefore, the TANTO .22 is not confirmed as the iconic SMG Treyarch teased.
The same January 2025 post said players had spent over 480 million hours in Black Ops 6 Zombies and that the Main Quest completion rate across the two launch maps had not cracked 4% before Directed Mode’s release. Those are historical figures reported by Treyarch at the time, not current statistics. Read the 115 Day post.

What else is useful to know about the map?
Call of Duty describes The Tomb as having tighter play spaces, with an emphasis on replayability. Death Perception is available from a perk machine on the map; Activision says the perk outlines enemies through walls and obstacles.
