He debuted at Survivor Series in 1990 and retired at the same event 30 years later, on November 22, 2020. His defining WrestleMania streak ended at 21 consecutive victories, while WWE lists his eventual WrestleMania record as 24-2.
Who is The Undertaker?
The Undertaker is the name of the supernatural, somber character WWE introduced in 1990; Mark Calaway is the performer behind the persona. Keeping the two distinct matters: the character’s eerie presentation belongs to wrestling storytelling, while Calaway’s career dates and accomplishments are real-world facts.
WWE says the character first appeared at Survivor Series 1990 as the final member of Ted DiBiase’s “Million Dollar Team.” The entrance helped establish the character’s theatrical identity. WWE Director of Music Jim Johnston recalled creating a bell sound for the theme: “The thing I remember about writing the music was creating this bell sound. I couldn’t find a sound effect that sounded big enough. I needed a BONG, one that sounded as though it could resonate a mile.” Johnston’s comments appeared in a WWE feature published October 9, 2007. What was The Undertaker’s WrestleMania record?
WWE says the WrestleMania streak began at WrestleMania VII in 1991 and reached 21-0 before Brock Lesnar ended it at WrestleMania 30. That 21-0 figure is the streak’s peak, not the final record: WWE’s profile gives The Undertaker an eventual WrestleMania record of 24-2, reflecting later matches after the loss. WWE’s official profile recounts the results.

What do the career statistics show?
Some widely repeated totals are historical snapshots, not current career counts. In a 2015 feature, WWE reported the following figures:
| Statistic | WWE’s reported figure | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Championships held in WWE | 15 | WWE, 2015; count at the time of that feature |
| WWE pay-per-view matches | 159 | WWE, 2015; historical total at publication |
| Hell in a Cell appearances | 12 | WWE, 2015; WWE also reported six wins, tied then with Triple H |
Those numbers should not be presented as updated totals: the cited feature was published in 2015. See WWE’s 2015 statistics feature.
