CD PROJEKT RED says The Witcher IV will address The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s multiple endings, but it has not publicly named individual decisions that carry into the sequel or confirmed save importing. The clearest things to revisit are Ciri’s fate and the way Geralt shaped her—not a definitive checklist of sequel flags.
What CD PROJEKT RED has confirmed
The Witcher IV begins a new saga with Ciri as its protagonist, according to CD PROJEKT RED. In a December 2024 interview with Xbox Wire, narrative director Philipp Weber said Ciri’s journey could have taken different directions depending on the ending players received in The Witcher 3, and that the studio would handle the previous game’s multiple endings. The interview kept the details private.
The same conversation ties Geralt’s influence on Ciri to the sequel’s choice design. Weber said, “There will be choices that feel close to what Geralt would do.” Game director Sebastian Kalemba added, “Geralt has also learned some things from Ciri throughout their journey in The Witcher 3, and that will be reflected in those choices.”
Those comments establish the broad themes, not the implementation. They do not identify particular The Witcher 3 decisions that will be tracked, promise equal treatment for every ending, or confirm that players can import a save.

- Trained from early childhood and mutated to gain superhuman skills, strength, and reflexes, witchers are a counterbalance to the monster-infested world in which they live.
- Built for endless adventure, the massive open world of The Witcher sets new standards in terms of size, depth, and complexity.
- Take on the most important contract of your life: to track down the child of prophecy, the key to saving or destroying this world.
Which choices are most worth revisiting?
Spoilers: The first category below concerns Ciri’s ending in The Witcher 3. The available official interview confirms that the game has multiple endings but does not provide an authoritative full ending guide.
Ciri’s fate
This is the most directly supported decision area to revisit. Weber explicitly connected the different directions Ciri’s journey could take to the ending players received. That makes Ciri’s fate the strongest evidence-based focus for anyone replaying before The Witcher IV. It does not confirm which ending, or which specific decisions leading to it, the sequel will represent.
How Geralt treats and influences Ciri
The interview also points to Geralt’s effect on Ciri and to choices in the sequel that reflect what each learned from the other. That supports paying attention to their relationship and the values Geralt models. It does not establish that any named conversation or individual interaction will carry over as a literal flag.

What remains speculation
Beyond those broad themes, the cited official material does not confirm that a particular romance, Skellige ruler, Northern War outcome, or side-quest decision will change The Witcher IV. A decision might matter as narrative context or character history without being imported as a discrete game-state variable, but the interview does not specify how the studio will handle that distinction.

There is no supported ranking of named choices by likelihood of carryover, and no announced count of how many The Witcher 3 decisions will appear in the sequel. Treat detailed online lists of supposedly confirmed flags cautiously unless CD PROJEKT RED identifies them directly.
Does the earlier save-transfer system tell us what to expect?
The Witcher 3 did accommodate choices from its predecessor: CD PROJEKT RED’s PC manual describes importing a The Witcher 2 save or simulating choices through dialogue when a save is unavailable. The company’s console support article explains that console players simulate The Witcher 2 decisions rather than importing those saves.

- If you buy this game, you will receive a free next-gen update on December 14th!
- Play as a highly trained monster slayer for hire.
- Built for endless adventure, the massive open world of The Witcher sets new standards in terms of size, depth and complexity.
- The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Game of the Year edition brings together the base game and all the additional content released to date.
That is useful precedent for the series, not confirmation of The Witcher IV’s plan. The cited interview does not say whether the next game will support save import, offer a choice simulation, or handle prior events another way.

- Revisit Ciri’s ending. This is the decision area the studio has most directly connected to the sequel.
- Pay attention to Geralt and Ciri’s relationship. The developers say Geralt’s influence on Ciri will inform choices in the new game.
- Keep other decisions in perspective. You can replay the rest of the story for its own consequences, but do not assume that a romance, ruler, war outcome, or side quest has confirmed sequel impact.
- Wait for implementation details before planning around a save. No save-import or individual-flag system is confirmed by the cited interview.
