Before buying The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition, check what you already own on the platform you plan to use. The Complete Edition includes the base game, Hearts of Stone, and Blood and Wine. Eligible owners can get the Remastered edition as a free upgrade on the same platform ecosystem; ownership does not transfer between PC stores or from one console family to another.
What does The Witcher 3 Complete Edition include?
The Complete Edition combines the base game with both story expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. CD PROJEKT RED says the expansions are integrated into the game. On covered storefronts, standalone expansions have been delisted and the base game replaced by the Complete Edition; existing owners keep expansions already in their library, with their content patched into the base game. If you own the base game, update it to the latest version to install the expansions. CD PROJEKT RED’s game page and FAQ explain the edition and library changes.
The Complete Edition is not a separate story from the original game: it is the base adventure plus its two expansions. The 2026 Remastered edition is the updated release, not a third expansion to purchase separately. The release announcement says it became available on September 29, 2026. CD PROJEKT RED’s Remastered announcement identifies its platforms and upgrade policy.
Which version should you buy for your platform?
The Remastered release announcement and feature announcement name these platforms: PC via Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, and Battle.net; PlayStation 5; Xbox Series X|S; and Nintendo Switch 2. Availability and upgrade rights depend on the platform store and the edition you already own, so confirm the listing is for the device you intend to play on. The official Remastered feature announcement describes the release platforms and platform-specific features.

The named free-upgrade platforms in the August 25, 2026 announcement are GOG, Steam, Epic Games Store, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Battle.net is named as a Remastered platform, but is not included in that specific list of free-upgrade storefronts. Check the listing and account you own rather than assuming a license carries across stores. The announcement is at the official Remastered page.
How to check whether your copy qualifies for a free upgrade
- Identify the platform account that owns the game. Check the library for the specific PC store or console account; a purchase on one PC storefront is not the same as ownership on another.
- Confirm the edition in that library. The Complete Edition contains both expansions. Existing base-game owners should check their account for the original game and any separately owned expansions.
- Look for the Remastered upgrade in that same ecosystem. The official announcement explicitly names GOG, Steam, Epic Games Store, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S for free upgrades. Do not purchase a second copy until you have checked the relevant listing and account.
- If you own the Switch version, follow the Switch 2 claim instructions. CD PROJEKT RED’s support FAQ confirms the claim route and notes that the free upgrade is not available in Russia or Belarus. See the official Remastered FAQ.
A free upgrade is an entitlement tied to the platform terms stated by CD PROJEKT RED; it is not a universal cross-platform license. If your library does not show the upgrade, verify the account, storefront, region, and version before paying again.

What changes on older consoles?
The PS4, Xbox One, and original Nintendo Switch versions remain legacy versions. CD PROJEKT RED’s product FAQ says that the two expansions were made available free for those versions, but it does not say they receive all Remastered or current-generation features. The feature notes for the 2022 version 4.0 update document differences between PC and newer consoles, including ray tracing, and state that Xbox Series S has no ray-tracing mode. Choose by the device and features that matter to you, but treat specific performance descriptions as version- and platform-specific rather than universal guarantees. The 2026 feature announcement lists Switch 2 motion, mouse-sensor, and touchscreen controls, as well as PS5 Pro support for PSSR and VRR. Earlier version 4.0 notes document Xbox Series S Quality Mode targeting 30 FPS and Performance Mode targeting 60 FPS. Later patches can adjust behavior, and these figures should not be read as a promise of a locked frame rate in every scene or mode.

- PC: Check which store account owns the game and which Remastered listing corresponds to it. The announcement names Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, and Battle.net as PC platforms.
- PS5 and Xbox Series X|S: Check the console account’s entitlement and the edition listing. Feature support can vary by console model; the 2022 notes, for example, distinguish Xbox Series S from other next-generation consoles on ray tracing.
- Nintendo Switch 2: The 2026 announcement highlights motion, mouse-sensor, and touch controls. Existing Switch owners should check the official claim procedure and region eligibility.
Patch status is another reason not to rely on an undated performance or bug list. CD PROJEKT RED’s October 1, 2026 notice for patch 5.00b says it fixed a DLSS issue in the Xbox Play Anywhere PC version and adjusted lighting on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC Xbox Play Anywhere. Consult the patch 5.00b notice for those specific changes.
Can you use an existing save in Remastered?
Yes. CD PROJEKT RED’s support FAQ says existing Witcher 3 saves are compatible with Remastered. Because the skill system was overhauled, skills will be reset, so expect to reassign them when you load the save. The confirmation is in the official Remastered FAQ.
