The 11-year-old Steam game enjoying a reported sales surge is The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. A recent analysis by Bastion Insights says the game’s sales rose after a 2026 reveal and update campaign, but the figures are third-party estimates—not sales numbers confirmed by Steam or publisher CD Projekt Red.
What game is behind the reported sales surge?
It is The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, first released in May 2015. Bastion Insights described it as having sold 25.8 million copies as of July 2026, but the passage reporting that lifetime total does not identify its underlying source. Treat it as Bastion’s figure, not a newly verified publisher disclosure. Bastion Insights’ analysis identifies the game and the sales story; the Steam listing confirms the title.

How large was the reported Steam sales lift?
Bastion’s analysis attributes its sales and player metrics to GameDiscover. It reports Steam sales rising 135%, from 300 to 705 units after the gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 reveal, then reaching a later peak of 1,254 units. The report says daily sales fell back to around 400 copies from September 1.
For the update’s launch week, Bastion reports a 1,120% week-on-week increase and 56,397 copies sold between September 25 and October 1. These figures are not a disclosed Steam sales report or a publisher-confirmed count.

Bastion reports several attention and activity measures alongside sales. They describe different things and should not be read as additional copies sold.

Is the estimated $2.6 million revenue confirmed?
No. Bastion estimates approximately $2.6 million by combining its reported unit counts with US Steam price points. The report notes that the sales were not all in the United States, so this is a modeled estimate—not audited revenue or a confirmed worldwide earnings total.
Bastion says the US Steam price rose to $49.99 on the remaster announcement day and later fell to $24.99 during a spotlight sale. It also notes a $3.99 price during the 2026 Summer Sale. Those are time- and region-specific prices reported by Bastion, not a promise of the current price; check Steam for the live listing and applicable regional price.

Did the update cause the sales boost?
The timing is consistent with renewed attention helping the game sell, but it does not establish that the free update alone caused the increase. Bastion’s interpretation is that the update brought existing owners back while the campaign and renewed interest also encouraged new purchases. The reported rise followed a reveal and update rollout, so several factors coincided; the available figures do not isolate the effect of any one of them.
