For better performance in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered on PC, start by checking output resolution, upscaling and Frame Generation, then test Path Tracing and other exposed graphics options one at a time. There is no verified universal setting order: CD PROJEKT RED publishes a demanding Path Tracing target, but not per-setting FPS gains. Tune against your GPU, frame-rate goal and image-quality priorities.
What settings should I change for better performance?
Use a repeatable tuning loop rather than copying a supposedly universal “best” preset. The official requirements page says expected frame rates can fluctuate with the scene and gameplay, and that configuration, settings and output resolution affect results. It does not rank individual graphics options by performance cost.
- Record your starting point. Note your GPU, output resolution, current average performance and the dips or slowdowns you notice. Record whether upscaling and Frame Generation are enabled, along with the current Path Tracing state.
- Choose a repeatable test area. Compare the same gameplay location and conditions as closely as possible. A different scene can change performance enough to make a settings comparison misleading.
- Change one option at a time. Test Path Tracing, upscaling, Frame Generation or another graphics option exposed by your current build separately. Keep resolution and the test area consistent when comparing results.
- Check more than the displayed FPS. Note image quality and how responsive controls feel as well as the frame-rate reading. If a change looks smoother but feels less responsive, decide whether that trade-off suits your play.
- Keep the configuration with the best overall result for you. If performance remains below your goal, test another option or lower output resolution, then repeat the comparison.
This process helps identify what actually improves your setup. Changing resolution, Path Tracing, upscaling and Frame Generation all at once may change performance, but it will not reveal which change made the difference.
Why resolution, upscaling and Frame Generation matter together
CD PROJEKT RED says higher output resolution significantly affects FPS. Its official Path Tracing target also used upscaling and Frame Generation, so the listed target is not a native-resolution, Frame-Generation-off benchmark.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
When comparing your result with the official configuration, match the output resolution and account for whether upscaling and Frame Generation are enabled. The requirements page says DLSS, FSR or XeSS was set to Auto for its ray-tracing and Path Tracing testing, but it does not identify the precise upscaling mode selected by Auto. Do not assume that your Auto selection—or the official one—uses a particular quality preset.
Frame Generation is part of the stated target configuration, but the official sources do not provide a technical explanation or latency measurements for this game. For your own decision, compare the displayed frame rate with perceived responsiveness rather than treating a higher displayed number as the only measure of a good result.

What the official Path Tracing target does—and does not—mean
CD PROJEKT RED lists a 2160p, 60 FPS Path Tracing target with Frame Generation. Its named hardware is an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080, an Intel Core i9-13900K or AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, 16 GB of VRAM and 24 GB of system RAM. The company says the expected FPS targets are based on its QA tests and may fluctuate by scene and gameplay.
These figures describe the official target configuration, not a universal minimum for enabling Path Tracing. Because upscaling and Frame Generation were enabled, they are not a promise of native 2160p rendering at 60 FPS. The requirements page does not specify which upscaling mode its Auto setting chose, and its target should not be treated as an independent benchmark result.
