Use The Witcher 3’s Cross Progression feature to move a save between platforms: connect both copies of the game to the same CD PROJEKT RED account, upload a newly created save from the source platform, then load it on the destination. Check that the destination has the required expansions or DLC and, for modded saves, compatible mods.
How Cross Progression transfers a save
Cross Progression is the publisher’s account-linked cloud method for continuing a save on another platform. It is not a raw USB save-file copy. The source save needs to be created through the feature, and the destination copy must be linked to the same CD PROJEKT RED account.
- Update the game on the source platform. CD PROJEKT RED recommends the latest patch. For its documented PS4-to-PS5 Next-Gen path, the support instructions specify PS4 patch 4.04.
- Link the source game to your CD PROJEKT RED account. On Nintendo Switch, open My Rewards and follow the on-screen linking steps. On other platforms, account linking or the Cross Progression control may be presented through Load Game.
- Open Load Game and choose Cross Progression. Use the button or key shown in the corner of the menu; the prompt can vary by platform.
- Create a new save. The game uploads it automatically when Cross Progression is active. Look for the cloud icon next to the save name to confirm it has uploaded.
- Open the game on the destination platform. Link that copy to the same CD PROJEKT RED account, using My Rewards where applicable.
- Go to Load Game and select the uploaded save. It should appear in the list if the account and game content match.
Cross Progression is enabled by default after account connection. If needed, check Options → Gameplay → Cross Progression. Follow the prompts shown by your installed game version if the menu arrangement differs.

The Xbox One-to-Xbox Series X|S system-transfer option is a same-family console route, not a general method for copying a save between arbitrary platforms.

Check content and mods before loading
Expansions and DLC
The save and destination installation need compatible game content. A base-game save without expansions can load in Complete Edition. The reverse is not guaranteed: CD PROJEKT RED says a Complete Edition save cannot load in a base game that lacks expansions or DLC used by that save. Check what content the save depends on before switching editions.
Mods
For Cross Progression, CD PROJEKT RED says both platforms need the same set of mods enabled. A missing or incompatible mod may prevent loading. This matters especially when moving from PC to console, because mods unsupported on consoles are ignored there; verify compatibility before relying on a modded save.

Account and patch
Both copies must use the same CD PROJEKT RED account for this process. Check the game version on the main menu and use the instructions visible in your own Load Game or My Rewards screen, since prompts and menu placement can differ by platform and patch.

CD PROJEKT RED’s current Remastered FAQ says existing saves remain compatible and Cross Progression continues to work as before; it does not provide a separate Remastered transfer procedure. The FAQ identifies PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 as Remastered-upgrade platforms. It also says existing Nintendo Switch owners will be able to claim the Switch 2 Remastered version free once it is released. The FAQ provides no release date, so availability and timing should be checked against current platform listings rather than assumed.

The FAQ also says the base game has been replaced by Complete Edition in storefronts and that expansion content is included in the current base-game update. That edition context does not remove the need to check that the destination can load the content used by a particular save.
