The “astonishingly beautiful” wording comes from a community commenter, as reported by ComicBook.com on 5 October 2026. That report also describes criticism of oversaturation and brightness. These are reactions, not measured image-quality results or evidence of a broad player consensus. No independent frame-rate or image-quality measurements are established in the available reporting.
What does the remaster add on PS5 Pro?
CD PROJEKT RED says the PS5 Pro version supports PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) and uncapped frame rates, alongside revised graphics modes. The publisher says PSSR is intended to deliver higher visual fidelity without compromising performance; that is the publisher’s description, not an independent test conclusion. Its feature notes also list rendering updates, including an improved shading model, updated textures and models based on assets from the Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project, changes to grass and foliage lighting, updated tone mapping, a Ground Truth Ambient Occlusion option, ray-traced local shadows, revised screen-space reflections and shadows, HDR calibration changes, and improved terrain and material rendering.

The feature notes cover multiple platforms. They do not establish that every listed rendering change applies to PS5 Pro, so the list should not be read as a platform-by-platform specification for that console.
Which PS5 Pro graphics mode should you choose?
The publisher describes two modes. Choose based on whether you prefer its stated lighting approach or higher resolution, and whether your display supports VRR.

These are CD PROJEKT RED’s stated targets, not guaranteed or independently measured results. “Up to 90 FPS” is specifically tied to a VRR-capable display; it does not mean every screen will show that frame rate. VRR is relevant to that stated upper target, but it is not a requirement to play the game.
Do existing owners have to buy the remaster?
CD PROJEKT RED says previous owners can upgrade for free within the same platform ecosystem, whether they bought the original physically or digitally. The publisher also says existing base-game owners receive the two original expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, which are included in the remastered base game. Check the current store listing for your region and platform before making a purchase, since the entitlement is tied to the same platform ecosystem.

If you do not already own the game, a physical PS5 edition may be one way to buy it; confirm the current edition and listing before ordering. A PS5 Pro console or VRR display is not presented as a prerequisite for playing.

On 1 October 2026, CD PROJEKT RED released Patch 5.00b, which it said made “various lighting adjustments, including fixing some interiors that appeared too dark.” That confirms a lighting update, but does not establish that oversaturation complaints were resolved or that all players experienced the same visual issue. The patch notice also mentions other platform-specific adjustments; its DLSS issue concerns Xbox Play Anywhere PC, not PS5. See the publisher’s Patch 5.00b notes.

Are the gameplay and accessibility changes PS5 Pro-specific?
The remaster’s feature notes also describe a revised skill system, camera options, movement and animation refinements, and the Bard’s Ballad preset. The publisher describes Bard’s Ballad as simplifying selected mechanics for players who experience mental fatigue or difficulty concentrating. Because the notes discuss platform-specific changes across PC, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch 2, check the platform details before assuming any particular feature is available on PS5 Pro.
