Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteThe best The Witcher 3 settings depend on what you want to fix: enable Quick Sign Casting for faster Signs, test the Remastered exploration and dynamic combat cameras for a wider view, hide exploration HUD elements if the screen feels busy, switch the map to All when you need every marker, and tune Roach’s input sensitivity until movement feels manageable. Remastered and earlier Next-Gen versions do not expose exactly the same options on every platform, so use the labels and paths shown by your own game.
The recommendations below describe what each setting does, the trade-off it creates, and how to undo it. They are preference-based adjustments rather than a universal competitive preset.

Check your edition and platform first
The September 2026 Remastered release is the current version context for these recommendations. Its notes add or rename several camera, horse-control, and disengagement options. The 2022 Next-Gen update documented the original Quick Sign Casting, HUD, map-filter, and alternative-camera controls. PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2 can expose different controls; a setting described in one update may not appear in another edition.

Make Signs faster with Quick Sign Casting
Quick Sign Casting lets you switch to and cast a Sign without opening the radial menu. That removes a menu interruption from a fight and makes a frequently used Sign available through a more immediate input sequence.
When to enable it
- Turn it on if you regularly cast Signs while enemies are attacking and do not want to pause for the radial wheel.
- Leave it off if the radial menu’s deliberate selection is easier for you to remember or if you rarely change Signs mid-fight.
The publisher documents the function, not a universal preference or a measured damage increase. Treat it as an input-layout choice: play a few encounters and keep the mode that produces fewer wrong Sign selections.

Quick Sign Casting was grouped with camera and interface alternatives in the Next-Gen announcement, which explains why it may be listed with broader gameplay or control options rather than under a Sign-specific submenu. If the toggle is absent, check that your game has the relevant update and confirm the platform’s available controls.
Choose a camera that shows more without losing control
Camera distance changes how much of a battlefield, road, or obstacle you can see. The newer Remastered options and the earlier Next-Gen alternative camera overlap in purpose but are not identical features.

Remastered exploration camera
Remastered adds an exploration camera with an increased field of view. A wider view can reveal more of the path and nearby surroundings while you travel, which is useful when you want to read terrain instead of constantly correcting the camera. It is an option to try, not a claim that every player will find a wider view more comfortable.
Remastered dynamic combat camera
The Remastered notes also add a dynamic combat camera intended to increase visibility during fights. Test it in a crowded encounter and watch whether enemy positions remain easier to track. If the camera’s movement distracts you or makes manual framing harder, switch back to the steadier option.
Next-Gen alternative camera and distance controls
The earlier Next-Gen update introduced an alternative camera closer to Geralt. Its distance can be adjusted under Gameplay for three contexts: Exploration Camera Distance, Combat Camera Distance, and Horseback Camera Distance. These independent controls let you keep a closer combat view while using a different distance on foot or on Roach.
| Camera option | What it changes | Best reason to try it | Potential trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Remastered exploration camera | Increases the field of view while exploring | See more terrain and nearby surroundings | A wider view may feel less intimate or make distant details smaller |
| Remastered dynamic combat camera | Adapts during combat to improve visibility | Keep more of a fight in view as enemies move | Camera motion may not suit players who prefer fixed framing |
| Next-Gen alternative camera | Moves the viewpoint closer to Geralt | Use a nearer third-person perspective | Closer framing can show less of the surrounding battlefield |
| Gameplay distance sliders | Set exploration, combat, and horseback distances separately | Build a different view for each activity | Requires testing three contexts instead of one global value |
Compare cameras on two practical questions: can you see an incoming enemy or obstacle soon enough, and can you keep Geralt centered without fighting the camera? There is no sourced “best” distance and no published performance benchmark for these choices.
Reduce exploration HUD clutter without losing every navigation aid
The Next-Gen HUD configuration can hide the minimap and quest objectives dynamically while you are exploring. The documented behavior is conditional: the elements can be hidden when you are not in combat and are not using Witcher Senses.

How to set it up
- Open Options.
- Choose Video.
- Open HUD Configuration.
- Find the separate exploration controls for hiding the minimap and hiding objectives.
- Enable only the element you want removed, then return to the world and check the result outside combat and Witcher Senses.
Use this for a cleaner landscape view if you can navigate by roads, signs, and landmarks. The cost is straightforward: fewer persistent cues. If you depend on the minimap for turns or need objective text constantly visible, leave it shown or restore it. Because the exact labels can differ in Remastered and on consoles, confirm the current menu rather than assuming the 2022 path is unchanged.
Use map filters deliberately
The default map filter reduces visual noise by hiding some categories, including question marks and boat icons. Those markers have not been removed from the world; they are simply not shown in that map mode.
Keep the default filter for routine travel
The default view is useful when you want major destinations and a readable route without every possible activity competing for attention. It pairs well with a hidden exploration HUD because neither the map nor the screen is constantly full of prompts.
Switch to “All” when searching
Choose the map’s All mode when you are deliberately surveying points of interest, looking for undiscovered markers, or checking why a region appears incomplete. The Next-Gen notes identify “All” as the mode that restores the categories hidden by the default filter. Switch back afterward if the extra icons make ordinary navigation harder.
Tune Roach’s input sensitivity
Remastered adds a horse control input sensitivity slider under Settings → Controls. Use it when Roach feels too twitchy in tight spaces or too slow to respond to small stick or key movements.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
- Open Settings and select Controls.
- Locate the horse-control input sensitivity slider.
- Change it by a small amount rather than moving directly to an extreme.
- Ride through a town gate, make short directional corrections, and turn around obstacles.
- Keep the value that lets you make deliberate corrections without oversteering.
No official source establishes a best numeric value, and there is no universal calibration for different controllers, keyboards, dead zones, or player preferences. If a change makes movement worse, return the slider toward its previous position.
Use Quick Disengage when retreating
Remastered documents a quick disengage option for breaking target lock when you need to run. The sequence is: hold the dodge button to unlock from the target, then press sprint. The game displays the appropriate button prompts for your input device.
This is useful when a fight has moved into a bad position, an enemy is stronger than expected, or you need to create distance before healing or changing tactics. Button names differ between keyboard, Xbox-style pads, PlayStation pads, and Nintendo hardware, so follow the prompt shown in your game rather than assuming a particular physical button.

Instead of changing every option at once, begin with the profile that matches the problem you are experiencing. These are organized recommendations, not tested presets.
| If your priority is… | Try first | Leave unchanged until you test |
|---|---|---|
| Immediate Sign use | Enable Quick Sign Casting | Camera distance and map filter |
| Seeing more while traveling | Remastered exploration camera; consider hiding the exploration minimap | Quest objectives, until you know you can navigate comfortably |
| Tracking enemies in a crowd | Remastered dynamic combat camera; compare combat distance | Exploration HUD settings |
| A cleaner world view | Hide minimap and/or objectives outside combat; keep the default map filter | Quick Sign Casting, unless you also want faster combat inputs |
| Finding every activity | Map mode “All” | HUD visibility, because map completeness and screen cleanliness are separate choices |
| More controllable horse movement | Adjust horse input sensitivity in small steps | Camera changes, so you can judge steering independently |
| Escaping a bad fight | Learn the hold-dodge, then sprint quick-disengage sequence | Other combat inputs until the escape action is familiar |
Change one group at a time and test it in the activity it is meant to improve. A camera that helps combat may feel unnecessary during a quiet ride, while a hidden minimap that looks excellent in a field may be inconvenient in a dense city.

Controls, peripherals, and troubleshooting
Supported input devices
CD PROJEKT RED’s support page lists keyboard and mouse on PC. It also lists Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S controllers as partially supported on PC, and names Xbox controllers, DualShock 4, and DualSense for the applicable console generations. An Xbox Series X|S controller is therefore an optional supported input device for someone who needs a pad; buying a controller is not required to change any of these settings.
See the complete compatibility list at Supported peripherals — The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. “Partially supported” on PC can mean that some functions or prompts differ, so verify the behavior in your installation.
If an input does not work
- Open the controls menu and inspect the current key bindings.
- Check the selected control scheme and confirm that the game is detecting the intended device.
- Look for duplicate assignments or a binding that was changed when another preset was selected.
- Restore the defaults if the layout has become confusing, then reapply only the changes you can test.
- Restart the game after major device or scheme changes and check the on-screen prompts again.
These checks follow the troubleshooting guidance in CD PROJEKT RED’s controls support article, which specifically advises checking bindings and the control scheme and notes that defaults can be restored.
Platform-specific limits to keep in mind
Do not assume that a PC graphics option, a controller feature, or a Switch 2 input capability exists on every platform. The Next-Gen notes describe controller slow-walk and alternative sprint choices, while the Remastered notes distinguish capabilities for PC, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch 2. The relevant option may be renamed, moved, or unavailable in your edition.
The safest workflow is to open the settings available on your platform, search for the functional label—camera, HUD, map filter, horse sensitivity, Sign casting, or disengage—and test the result in play. The Next-Gen update trailer and REDstreams summary provides additional context for the alternative camera and interface changes, but your installed version remains the final authority on what you can select.
A short test routine after changing settings
- Enter a safe area and confirm that each new input produces the expected on-screen prompt.
- Cast several different Signs, including one you normally select late in the radial order, to check whether Quick Sign Casting is comfortable.
- Fight a small group and then a larger group to judge enemy visibility with the chosen combat camera.
- Ride through a confined route to evaluate horse sensitivity rather than testing only on an open road.
- Travel outside combat and Witcher Senses to confirm when the minimap and objectives disappear.
- Open the map once in its default mode and once in “All” so you know which marker categories are being filtered.
- Hold dodge and press sprint during a low-risk encounter to learn quick disengage before relying on it in a dangerous fight.
If one change creates more friction than it removes, revert that setting while keeping the others. The goal is a control layout that makes your decisions clearer—not the largest number of toggles enabled.
