Gwent: The Legendary Card Game is a physical tabletop release of the card game from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. CD PROJEKT RED says it is the game’s first full physical printing, but that wording does not establish that no Gwent cards were ever distributed physically before. The new set is a complete playable product, not simply a handful of collectible cards.
What is the physical Gwent game?
Gwent: The Legendary Card Game brings the version of Gwent from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to the tabletop. CD PROJEKT RED says it keeps the familiar rules and mechanics and calls this the game’s first time “printed physically in full.” That is the publisher’s description of this release; it does not prove that no earlier physical Gwent cards or partial sets existed. The game includes five factions: Northern Realms, Nilfgaard, Monsters, Scoia’tael, and Skellige. The official U.S. Gear Store listing describes the complete set as containing 446 cards, alongside the pieces needed to play.

The U.S. Gear Store listing reviewed for this article displays a price of $39.99 but also marks the game “OUT OF STOCK.” It uses presale language and gives an estimated readiness-to-ship date in October 2026. The listing does not establish stock at other retailers or in other regions.
Germany had a separate announced retail route: Asmodee Deutschland’s March 20, 2025 announcement gave September 15, 2025 as the regional release date and directed customers to local game shops for preorders. Is this different from the Gwent you already own?
If “I’ve had it for 10 years” means playing Gwent in The Witcher 3, the distinction is straightforward: this is the physical tabletop product, with cards, boards, tokens, and rulebooks. It is not evidence that the game has only just become physical in any form. The phrase “printed physically in full for the first time” comes from CD PROJEKT RED; the available product information does not settle the scope or completeness of older physical card distributions.
So compare the new set with any older cards by checking what you actually have: whether it is a complete game or a partial distribution, which edition it belongs to, and whether it includes the rules and play components. The official listing establishes what is in this marketed 446-card set, but does not provide a verified history or inventory of earlier physical Gwent items.

What kind of play does the release support?
The U.S. store specifies 1–5 players and a 20-minute play time. Asmodee Germany separately advertised solo play and a five-person variant for its regional release. Those details point to more than a simple two-player card duel, but the exact rules and variants should be checked in the rulebooks included with the edition you buy.
