Things to Know Before Playing Once Human

Before starting Once Human, understand the recommended beginner scenario, phased progression, and what does—and does not—carry between scenarios.

Before starting Once Human, choose a scenario with its rules in mind—and know that moving between scenarios is a selective carryover, not a clean slate or a promise that everything comes with you. The developer recommends Manibus (Novice) for beginners. Once you understand that scenarios progress in phases and how Eternaland fits into transitions, the early game is easier to approach without treating every choice as permanent.

Which scenario should a new player choose?

If you are new and want the developer’s recommended starting point, choose Manibus (Novice). In its Console Launch FAQ, published August 27, 2026, the Once Human Development Team recommends it so beginners can learn the game’s mechanics and rules before exploring its varied scenario features.

Scenarios are more than difficulty settings. The official FAQ describes differences in maps, rules, stories, environmental mechanics, and PvE or PvP experiences. Think about the kind of pressure and structure you want: cooperative PvE or player-versus-player competition, a particular setting and set of objectives, or a more familiar introduction. The FAQ supports Manibus (Novice) as the beginner choice; it does not establish a universal ranking of the other scenarios.

Once Human is a multiplayer open-world survival game built around exploration, building, Deviations, dungeons, scenarios, and events. The FAQ says it is free to play on PC, mobile, and console, and that all game-mode content can be experienced for free. It describes cosmetics, the Battle Pass, and other paid content as not affecting gameplay or fairness.

How do scenarios and phases work?

A scenario is tied to a server and unfolds through phases. Each phase has objectives, and progressing through them gradually unlocks modes, mechanics, or regions. The official FAQ says phase durations can range from a few days to dozens of days, depending on the scenario; do not assume every scenario follows the same calendar or lasts a fixed number of days.

The older official overview, “About Seasons and Scenarios,” published August 13, 2024, also explains the phased design and the distinction between scenario-specific progress and retained items. For the current details that matter when moving between scenarios, use the newer FAQ and the transition information shown in the game.

What resets, and what carries over?

Neither “everything resets” nor “nothing is lost” accurately describes a scenario change. Some progress is scenario-bound, some belongings move to Eternaland, and other data is retained directly. The current official FAQ describes the categories, but item-level transfer rules and point costs can vary.

Hootenanny Games Feelin' Cute Party Game, Animal Rankings, 2-8 Players
  • FEELIN’ CUTE is the fur-mily party game of determining which animals are the cutest! Think you can figure out which of your friends believes a Tree Frog is more precious than a Fennec Fox? You’re about to!
  • DESIGNED FOR 2-8 PLAYERS, ages 6 and up, the card game takes 15 minutes to play, and will leave players feelin' cuter than ever!
  • BOTH COMPETITIVE & COOPERATIVE gameplay options mean this family game that adults also enjoy is perfect for animals (or humans) of all kinds!
  • CHOOSE your favorite animal paw and place the Cuteness Scale in the center of the table. Draw animal cards and show them around. Decide how its cuteness compares to the last and the other players make their guesses. If no one guesses right, turn over a Blobfish token, and once all three are turned, tally your scores!
  • SPARKS HILARIOUS DISCUSSION about the cuteness of animals–and always ends with an emphatic "I want to play again!"
What happens at transition Examples in the official FAQ
Moves to Eternaland Weapons, armor, materials, medicine, Deviations, and calibration blueprints.
Retained directly Fashions, some character data, most currencies, blueprints, formulas, design layouts, task progress, operation items, and event data.
Selected for a new scenario Players use Resource Inheritance Points to choose items to bring in; costs differ by item.

This summary reflects the categories in the August 27, 2026 official FAQ, not a guarantee that every item in a category transfers without conditions. The older official season overview says character leveling and Memetics reset according to scenario rules, while listing blueprints, accessories, mods, food recipes, house blueprints, and furniture formulas among retained items. Because the FAQ is newer and directs players to the in-game signup details, check those details for the scenario you are entering rather than relying on an older blanket list.

What is Eternaland for?

Eternaland is a private domain where you can build and make changes, and it serves as a hub between scenarios. The official “What Is Eternaland?” guide, published June 5, 2025, describes it as a place players can enter at any time and says remaining items move to its Spacetime Backpack at scenario end, with Energy Links converted to Astral Sand.

Use Eternaland as a staging and building space, not as a guarantee that everything stored there can be imported freely into the next scenario. Before confirming a move, read the current Scenario Description and Scenario Sign-Up information in game. The newer FAQ uses the term Resource Inheritance Points for selecting carry-in items and says item costs differ; follow the live interface rather than assuming an older transfer label or rule still applies.

A manageable route through your first session

The following is a practical route suggested by the third-party Once Human Wiki beginner’s guide, updated July 28, 2026. These are recommendations for learning the systems, not official requirements or a guaranteed optimal build.

  1. Choose Manibus (Novice) if you want the official beginner recommendation. Then follow the main quest far enough to encounter the game’s basic systems.
  2. Work toward the Territory Terminal. The third-party guide describes it as the base and respawn anchor. Treat reaching it as a learning milestone rather than a reason to rush every quest.
  3. Learn Memetics gradually. Prioritize basic crafting and workbench needs instead of trying to unlock everything at once; that prioritization is the guide’s advice.
  4. Start with a practical, modest base. The guide recommends building near resources you expect to use and cautions that committing to a large build early may mean relocating. A simple setup leaves room to learn what suits your play.
  5. Notice what Deviations do. The guide describes these collectible anomalies as able to help in combat or automate base tasks. They are a distinctive system worth understanding as you encounter them.
  6. Pay attention to survival needs. The guide flags Sanity and food-and-water preparation as systems that can matter. Learn how they affect your situation rather than assuming combat is the only early concern.

What should you check before choosing a platform or joining friends?

The August 2026 FAQ lists PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, and Xbox Series X|S support, and says cross-platform play is supported with PC and mobile following the console launch. It also warns that some features or events may differ by platform, so check current announcements and in-game displays for platform-specific details.

For playing with friends, the FAQ says players in different regions cannot play together and that friends need to select the same region and server. Confirm those choices before starting together; cross-platform support does not remove the region and server requirements.
