It captured one strand of the anger in an April 26, 2024 discussion of a leaked Q&A with studio head Nikita Buyanov and Emi. A community manager in the thread said the Q&A was real but unfinished; the wider dispute centered on whether Escape from Tarkov’s new PvE mode should count as future downloadable content promised to Edge of Darkness (EoD) owners.
What happened in the April 26 Reddit thread?
A post titled “Newest interview with Nikita and Emi” reproduced a Q&A described as an interview with Battlestate Games head Nikita Buyanov and Emi. The thread drew a large volume of responses, including comments expressing anger and distrust over remarks attributed to Buyanov and the broader edition controversy. The quoted business-reputation line was one commenter’s reaction: “Take notes everyone, this is how you ruin your business’s reputation forever.” It should be read as an example of the discussion’s tone, not as a finding about the studio’s reputation or a measure of what all players believed.

Was the leaked interview real?
In the thread, a commenter presented as the community manager said the leak was real, but the Q&A was not final or an official stance. The comment explained: “This is not final and official stance. The Q&A was supposed to be polished to add context where its missing as well as get extra questions answered.” That distinction matters: lines attributed to Buyanov in the circulated Q&A were part of leaked draft material, not a finalized company statement.
Readers in the thread asked, “Is this real?” and “What do we have that can prove this is real?” The community-manager comment is the thread’s stated confirmation of the leak’s authenticity, alongside its explicit warning that the material was unfinished. It does not turn the Q&A into an official, final position from Battlestate.

Why did the reaction become tied to EoD and the Unheard Edition?
The central issue was access to the new PvE mode. EoD owners understood their edition to include access to future DLC, and questioned whether the PvE mode was covered by that promise. Battlestate’s position was that the mode was not DLC. The disagreement was about how the edition’s promised benefit applied to a newly introduced mode; the sources document competing interpretations and company statements, not a court or regulator ruling that settled the matter.
One thread participant framed a related concern this way: “One of the most discussed subject regarding the whole situation is the removal of the DLC line on for the EOD on the website.” That is a Reddit user’s wording, not an independently established account of the website’s history. The underlying concern was whether EoD’s future-DLC promise still meant what owners believed it meant after Battlestate classified PvE differently.

What did Battlestate say about EoD owners’ PvE access?
The company’s terms changed across statements, so the dates should not be collapsed into a single offer:
| Date | What was said | How to read it |
|---|---|---|
| April 26, 2024 | Contemporaneous Forbes reporting described six months of access to the new mode for EoD owners. | This was the access arrangement reported at that stage, not a settled or timeless entitlement. Forbes coverage. |
| April 27, 2024 | In a published statement, Buyanov said the PvE mode “is not DLC” and described six months of access for EoD owners at that point. | “Not DLC” was Battlestate’s classification, not a legal ruling. Statement mirror. |
| April 28, 2024 | PC Gamer reported that Battlestate extended access after continued backlash, with EoD owners to receive access in waves. | This was a later change from the six-month arrangement described earlier. PC Gamer coverage. |
What were fans concerned about beyond access?
The Reddit thread offers qualitative examples, not representative evidence of all Tarkov players’ views. Its comments tied the edition dispute to questions of trust and monetization. Other objections concerned gameplay mechanics, including the proposed ability to enter an active raid. Those are commenters’ concerns about a proposed feature; the thread alone does not establish how it ultimately worked in play or how widely players shared the concern.

- Trust and promises: Some commenters saw the disagreement over the future-DLC wording and PvE access as a reason to question the company’s commitments.
- Monetization: Reactions also connected the Unheard Edition and its benefits to broader concerns about how access to game content was being sold.
- Gameplay balance: The proposed possibility of entering an active raid raised a separate kind of concern, focused on gameplay rather than edition entitlements.
Because Reddit participation is self-selected, the thread shows what its participants said—not what the player base as a whole thought. Its votes and comment activity are engagement signals, not a representative poll.
