Thor’s role: contest useful space
Thor’s Vanguard role is best approached as a job of taking or contesting useful space so teammates have room to operate. His kit mixes close-range attacks, abilities tied to Thorforce, a charged dash, and an ultimate. A fan-maintained Thor hero profile lists the abilities and role, but its exact values should be treated as provisional rather than confirmed current patch data.
In practice, look for engagements where you can pressure opponents without spending your resources blindly or ending up isolated. Thor’s strength is not simply starting a fight: it is choosing an entry, keeping pressure up, and having a follow-up after the initial attack.
Manage Thorforce with a repeatable ability loop
Thorforce is central to Thor’s rhythm. The fan-maintained profile says that spending Thorforce grants bonus health and that hitting an enemy with Mjolnir Bash restores Thorforce. The precise amounts and live behavior are not confirmed here, so check Thor’s in-game ability panel for current details rather than relying on third-party numbers.

NetEase’s official developer explanation of Thor’s ability sequence recommends cycling Awakening Rune → Hammer Throw → Mjolnir Bash. The post explains that Hammer Throw recovers Lightning Energy on hit, while Mjolnir Bash helps rebuild energy so Thor can use Awakening Rune for longer. Treat the sequence as a practical loop, not a rigid combo: aim to land the hits that restore your resource and time the next Awakening Rune around the fight.
- Activate Awakening Rune when you can follow it with attacks rather than spending the empowered window while out of range.
- Land Hammer Throw to apply pressure and recover Lightning Energy on hit, as described in the official developer post.
- Connect with Mjolnir Bash to continue pressure and rebuild Thorforce according to the ability description.
- Return to Awakening Rune when your resource and the engagement allow you to keep the cycle going.
Misses matter: the official sequence specifically associates Hammer Throw’s energy recovery with hitting an enemy. If your target moves out of reach or the throw does not connect, reassess before committing to the next resource-consuming ability.

Use Storm Surge to arrive with a plan
Storm Surge is a charged dash that can help Thor reposition to high ground or a flank. The official developer guide recommends using that movement to establish an angle, then applying Hammer Throw and Awakening Rune for ranged damage. The goal is to make the dash create a better follow-up, not to spend it as an isolated attack.
NetEase’s December 9, 2025 balance post says Thor can freely adjust his movement direction while dashing. Use that steering to refine your route as the fight changes, but choose a destination before you charge: high ground, a flank, or another position that lets you pressure opponents and still continue the engagement.

- Before dashing: identify where you want to land and what attack or angle you will use next.
- During the dash: adjust direction to reach the intended position or respond to movement.
- After landing: apply the ranged pressure described in the developer guidance, then decide whether the resource loop or a retreat is appropriate.
Check team-up availability in the live game
The unofficial hero profile lists Thunderstrike Pike as a team-up ability involving Angela. Team-up availability and exact mechanics can change with a season or patch, so check the in-game team-up display before building a plan around it. Do not assume the ability will always be available in every match.
