Its skills can be shaped through weapon mastery and skill specialization; its June 2026 passive Elemental Awakening also links elemental skill counts to a short Species Damage boost and cooldown reductions. “Enhancements” needs a distinction: the old equipment Enhancement system was removed in update 4.0.0, while skill progression and specialization remain separate systems.
What the Staff does
Amazon Games describes the Staff as a weapon that calls down lightning and engulfs enemies in flames, with weather-based elemental attacks. Throne and Liberty does not lock a character into a fixed class: characters combine two weapons, and weapon mastery nodes can alter or empower skills. Official gameplay overview

Elemental Awakening: the Staff’s elemental thresholds
Update 4.0.0, released June 24, 2026, added Elemental Awakening as a Staff passive. Amazon Games says it amplifies Species Damage for four seconds when elemental counts from Staff attribute skills reach thresholds, while reducing the cooldown of other Staff skills. The notes specify these threshold-to-cooldown links:

Staff skills and named specializations in the official notes
Update 4.0.0 names several Staff abilities in its list of sources for Weaken: Burning. It also identifies specialization options associated with three of them:

Skill growth is different from equipment enhancement
Skill progression uses training books. Amazon Games’ business-model explainer says books can be earned through gameplay or crafted at the Skills Researcher NPC, and cannot be bought directly on the Auction House. That explainer is older system guidance, so confirm current in-game requirements and availability before planning progression. Official business-model explanation
Skill specialization and weapon mastery are also distinct from the equipment enhancement system that older guides may describe. In update 4.0.0, Enhancement, Transfer, and Sync were removed, along with the Enhancement UI. Equipment growth now uses item levels and inheritance; the patch notes describe item-level caps and inheritance for transferring item level and Potential Skill, with inheritance stones needed in relevant cases. Do not follow old instructions that send you to an Enhancement menu.

What changed in the latest checked patch
Amazon Games’ update 4.15.0, dated October 7, 2026, lists weapon-skill changes for Sword and Shield, Daggers, Crossbows, Longbow, Wand, Spear, Orb, and Gauntlets, but does not list a Staff skill adjustment.
