It is not a current-console wheel, does not offer the realism of a force-feedback setup, and should not be confused with the newer T80 Ferrari 488 GTB Edition. Buy one only when the price is clearly low, the complete hardware can be tested, and PC/PS3 compatibility is all you need.
What the Ferrari Red Legend Edition is
The Ferrari Racing Wheel Red Legend Edition is an older, Ferrari-licensed Thrustmaster wheel, product number 4060052. Thrustmaster’s legacy support page still hosts its software, while the official manual documents operation on PC and PlayStation 3: support page and manual.
The package consists of a steering wheel base, two sequential up/down shift levers, action buttons, a D-pad, Select/Start and programming buttons, a PS3 Home button, a PC/PS3 USB selector, a separate two-pedal unit and a table clamp. The pedal set connects to the wheel through an RJ45-style connector.
This is a legacy/older model with no current retail product page found, rather than a newly supported Thrustmaster product. Current driver availability should not be mistaken for current-console support.

Specifications that matter in use
| Feature | What is documented | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Platforms | Windows PC and PlayStation 3 | Do not buy it for PS4, PS5, Xbox, Switch or other modern consoles. |
| Steering range | 240 degrees, as reported in product information and comparable Thrustmaster documentation | Fast steering response, but considerably less precise than 900- or 1080-degree sim wheels. |
| Sensitivity | Normal and high modes | High mode can help precision in supported PS3 setups; start with normal on PC. |
| Pedals | Separate two-pedal set | Inspect both axes carefully on used hardware. |
| Feedback | Retailer information and customer Q&A characterize it as having no motorized force feedback; the current support page is not a complete specification sheet. | Expect positional steering and centering resistance, not torque from tyres, kerbs or crashes. |
| Mounting | Table clamp | Check clamp threads and whether the base stays secure. |
A 240-degree wheel turns much more quickly than a realistic sim wheel. That can suit arcade racing and casual driving, but it limits fine corrections, drifting and rally-style control. Without motorized force feedback, the wheel cannot communicate changing tyre load or loss of grip through torque. In practice it is closer to a controller upgrade than to a modern sim-racing rig.
Compatibility: PC and PS3 only
Windows PC
Thrustmaster currently lists a legacy unified driver package for Windows 10/11 on the Red Legend support page, including a Secure Boot installation correction. Driver availability does not guarantee that every modern game recognizes the wheel; game support depends on DirectInput handling, profiles and manual axis assignment.
PlayStation 3
The manual supports PS3 operation when the selector is placed in the PS3 position before connection. It also notes that PlayStation 2 games running on a PS3 are not supported.
Rank #2
- The most popular racing wheel on Forza.
- Easy to use: official plug-and-play Xbox racing wheel with USB recognition.
- Works on Xbox Series X/S & XBOX One
- Comprehensive controls for all driving actions, with 9 action buttons, 1 Manettino dial, 1 D-pad, 1 Xbox Guide button and 1 pairing detection LED for Kinect.
- Wheel is 11 inches / 28 cm in diameter — a 7:10 scale replica of the wheel on the real Ferrari 458 Spider sports car.
Platforms to avoid
- PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5
- Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S
- Nintendo Switch
- Cloud-gaming or streamed sessions
USB does not make the Red Legend universal. Console authentication, the device protocol and game support all matter, and no official Red Legend documentation establishes support for those platforms. Thrustmaster also warns that wheels are not compatible with games running through cloud or streaming modes; the game must be installed locally: official support information.

How it drives
The short rotation range and quick response make the wheel approachable in older arcade racers and casual PC games. The two wheel-mounted shifters are useful where a title supports sequential shifting, and a wheel generally feels more immersive than an analogue stick for simple driving.
It is a poor foundation for competitive simulation. Serious users need a wide steering range, detailed force feedback and predictable pedal control; this design supplies none of those at the level of current sim hardware. Do not treat the Red Legend as an upgrade path for titles such as Assetto Corsa Competizione, iRacing or Automobilista 2 unless you accept substantial compromises and game-specific configuration work.
Rank #3
- REALISTIC FERRARI DRIVING EXPERIENCE - Drive like a real race driver with this officially licensed sim racing wheel, inspired by the Ferrari 296 GTB. The 10″ steering wheel with paddle shifters delivers a more immersive driving sim experience than a standard controller, bringing authentic racing feel to your setup.
- SMOOTH, PRECISE CONTROL FOR BETTER LAPS - This gaming steering wheel uses bungee cord technology for smooth resistance and automatic centering, combined with a wider 240° rotation for more precise steering. The result is cleaner lines, better control, and a more engaging race sim experience.
- ADAPTS TO EVERY DRIVER - The Ferrari-inspired Manettino selector lets you switch between three driving profiles, making this sim wheel easy to enjoy for beginners while still rewarding more experienced players. Ideal for solo play or sharing the fun with friends and family.
- EASY SETUP & READY TO DRIVE - Designed for convenience, this gaming wheel installs quickly with a tool-free clamp system for desks and tables up to 1.8″ thick. Just plug and play with no additional software required. A great fit for home setups, bedrooms, or shared spaces.
- COMPLETE WHEEL & PEDAL SET FOR PC & PLAYSTATION – Includes a compact wheel and pedal set with Hall Effect sensor technology for smooth, consistent input. Designed for PC, PS5, and PS4, it delivers a more immersive and controlled driving experience right out of the box.
Pedals and used-condition risks
The manual directs PC users to test the steering and pedal axes through Windows’ game-controller interface. Age is now a bigger concern than the original feature list. Potentiometers can develop dead zones or flicker, springs can lose return force, and the pedal or USB cable can become intermittent.
Test every used unit
- Turn the wheel from lock to lock and confirm the complete axis is detected.
- Release it and check that it returns consistently toward centre.
- Press throttle and brake from 0% to 100%; watch for jumps or a partially pressed reading at rest.
- Move the pedal cable gently and confirm the readings do not cut out.
- Operate every button, both shift levers and the D-pad.
- Check the PC/PS3 selector, USB lead, clamp threads and rubber grips.
- Look for disconnects when the wheel or cable is moved.
Missing pedals, a damaged clamp or an untestable seller should materially reduce what you are willing to pay. No current manufacturer warranty or replacement-parts policy was established for this legacy model.
PC installation and calibration
- Move the wheel’s selector to PC.
- Download the Red Legend package from Thrustmaster Support.
- Install the driver before, or when prompted after, connecting the wheel.
- Connect it directly to the computer, avoiding a hub for initial setup.
- Open Windows’ game-controller panel or the Thrustmaster control-panel interface.
- Confirm an OK status, then test steering, pedals, buttons and the D-pad.
- Use normal sensitivity first. Calibrate manually only if automatic calibration produces incorrect readings.
If Windows does not detect it, unplug the wheel, verify the selector is on PC, repair or reinstall the legacy driver, try another direct USB port, inspect the pedal connector and temporarily remove conflicting controller-mapping software. If the axes appear but are wrong, calibrate in the controller properties before changing in-game settings.
PS3 installation and Gran Turismo setup
- Set the selector to PS3 before connecting.
- Connect the USB cable to the console and turn on the PS3.
- Start the racing game.
- If an official gamepad is used in one-player mode, move that controller to port 2 when the game requires it.
For the Gran Turismo PS3 procedure in the manual, use this mapping:
| Function | Control |
|---|---|
| Accelerate | R2 |
| Brake | L2 |
| Shift up | R1 |
| Shift down | L1 |
| Rear view | L3 and/or R3 |
| Left/right view | D-pad left/right |
The manual recommends high sensitivity for improved precision in this setup. These are documented controls, not a guarantee that every Gran Turismo version or every PS3 racing game will behave identically.
Which games suit it?
Better matches
- Older arcade racers
- Older PC games with generic wheel or DirectInput support
- PS3 racing games with manual wheel binding
- Casual driving games that tolerate 240 degrees and no force feedback
Problematic matches
- Modern simulators built around force-feedback tuning
- Games expecting XInput or a newer officially profiled wheel
- Titles without manual axis assignment
- Competitive sim racing and games requiring a wide steering range
- Cloud or streamed games
Used buying guide: identify the right model
Check the label for 4060052 and confirm that the listing is the Red Legend, not merely a Ferrari-branded Thrustmaster. Marketplace descriptions that say only “PlayStation compatible” are too vague: they may be referring to a different console generation.

The most common naming trap is the T80 Ferrari 488 GTB Edition. It is a separate, newer model documented for PC, PS4 and PS5 on Thrustmaster’s product page. A seller claiming PS4 or PS5 support for a Red Legend should be treated as incorrect until the model number is verified.
What is a reasonable price in 2026?
There is no reliable current official Red Legend price. Judge a used example by condition, completeness and the platform you need rather than by its original launch price. If a tested unit costs close to the price of a newer current wheel, its age and limited compatibility remove most of the advantage.
For context, prices seen on US Thrustmaster pages on August 16, 2026 were $129.99 for the T80 Ferrari 488 GTB Edition, $119.99 for the T98 Ferrari 296 GTB and approximately $99.99 for a T128 PlayStation/PC listing. These are time-sensitive US price signals, not permanent prices. The T128 adds hybrid-drive force feedback; the T80 and T98 remain casual, non-force-feedback-class alternatives. The T248R was listed at $349.99 for buyers moving into a substantially more advanced category. Sources: T80, T98 and T248R store listings, and T128 platform listing.
Quick Recap
Red Legend versus newer choices
| Model | Platforms shown by manufacturer | Why choose it | Why not |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ferrari Red Legend (4060052) | PC, PS3 | Lowest-cost route to a wheel for an existing PS3 or older PC. | Legacy hardware, 240 degrees, no established modern-console support and uncertain used condition. |
| T80 Ferrari 488 GTB Edition | PC, PS4, PS5 | Newer Ferrari styling and current PlayStation-generation listing. | Still a casual, non-force-feedback-class wheel. |
| T98 Ferrari 296 GTB | PC, PS4, PS5 | Current Ferrari-branded alternative at a similar observed US price signal. | Not a force-feedback upgrade. |
| T128 | PC, PS4, PS5 | Hybrid-drive force feedback and a more meaningful realism upgrade. | Not Ferrari-branded and not the cheapest used option. |
| T248R | PC, PS4, PS5 | Modern, more advanced sim-racing feature set. | Much more expensive and unnecessary for PS3-only use. |
Who should buy it?
- Buy: if you already own a PS3 or play older PC racers, can test the complete unit, and accept casual rather than realistic driving.
- Skip: if you need PS4, PS5, Xbox or Switch support, expect force feedback, want 900-degree steering, or cannot verify the pedals and steering axis.
- Choose a newer wheel: when the used Red Legend approaches roughly the cost of a current entry-level alternative, or when you need warranty coverage and easier game compatibility.
