It adapts Hergé’s Tintin album of the same name and launched on different platforms between 2023 and 2024. If you are deciding whether to buy it, start by checking the edition and format available for your platform; the announced Collector Edition contents and current availability are not the same thing.
What kind of game is Tintin Reporter: Cigars of the Pharaoh?
Developed by Pendulo Studios and co-produced by Microids and Tintinimaginatio, the game is a single-player action-adventure and investigation title. Microids describes play built around searching for clues, infiltrating locations, solving puzzles, and following investigative dialogue and video sequences, with plane and car chases. It is not described by the publisher as a pure point-and-click game. Microids’ announcement and Microids Support classify it as an adventure/action game for one player.
What is the story and what does it adapt?
Tintin and Snowy meet Professor Sarcophagus while cruising the Mediterranean, then set out to find the tomb of Pharaoh Kih-Oskh. The investigation develops into a drug-trafficking case spanning the East, according to the publisher’s synopsis. The game draws on Hergé’s Cigars of the Pharaoh, which Microids identifies as the fourth album in The Adventures of Tintin. The album was first prepublished beginning in December 1932 in the youth supplement Le Petit Vingtième, according to Microids Support.
Which platforms is it on, and when did it release?
Release timing and format depend on platform. Microids’ September 2023 announcement set 7 November 2023 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC. On release day, Tintin’s official news announcement said the game was available on PS5 and PS4 in physical and digital formats, and on Xbox One digitally; it described Switch as planned for 2024. Microids later announced the Switch launch for 17 October 2024. Is it worth buying?
The available official descriptions establish the game’s premise, single-player format and mix of investigation, puzzles, infiltration and chase sequences, but they do not establish comparative performance, accessibility, or how well the game plays. So the clearest buying decision is based on fit: choose it if you want a Tintin story presented as a varied adventure rather than a comic collection or a game described solely as point-and-click. Match the platform and format to your system, and treat the Collector Edition as a collectibles option only if its listed contents and price make sense to you. Microids stated in its 2023 announcement that The Adventures of Tintin albums had sold more than 275 million copies worldwide; the announcement does not date the underlying tally separately.
