“Titanfall reviews” can mean two different games. The 2014 Titanfall was presented at launch as an online, multiplayer-focused experience; 2016’s Titanfall 2 adds an explicitly described single-player campaign alongside Pilot and Titan combat. Review figures and platform details belong to each game separately, so the right choice depends partly on which kind of experience you want.
Which Titanfall game are you looking at?
Titanfall and Titanfall 2 are separate releases, launched in 2014 and 2016 respectively. Their review figures, campaign descriptions, and platform lists should not be treated as interchangeable.

| Game | Figure | What it represents |
|---|---|---|
| Titanfall (2014) | 85 | Official Xbox Magazine’s review score, as listed on Metacritic’s Titanfall critic reviews page. |
| Titanfall 2 (2016) | 61 critic reviews | The number of critic reviews shown on Metacritic’s Titanfall 2 critic reviews page; it is a count, not a score. |
| Titanfall (2014) | 9.25/10 | Game Informer’s score, reported by Xbox Wire. |
| Titanfall (2014) | 9/10 | Polygon’s score, reported by Xbox Wire. |
Xbox Wire’s March 13, 2014 article identifies Arthur Gies as Polygon’s reviewer and attributes this description to him: “It all comes naturally, and instead of feeling like work, ‘Titanfall’ feels like a playground.” That is one reviewer’s assessment of the original game, not a universal verdict.

Campaign and solo play
The clearest distinction is the campaign. EA’s announcement for the original emphasized online multiplayer, and the available launch material does not establish a standalone single-player campaign for it. EA explicitly described a single-player campaign for Titanfall 2, following Pilot Jack Cooper and Titan BT-7274. EA’s description is publisher copy rather than independent review evidence.
Rank #2
- The Future of Online Multiplayer Action - The game is entirely multiplayer, in a new experience that combines fast-paced online action with the heroic set piece moments traditionally found in campaign mode. The intersection of the two is a big part of what givesTitanfall its iconic identity.
- The Visionaries that Defined Gaming for a Generation are back! - Founded in 2010, Respawn Entertainment was formed by Vince Zampella and Jason West, former co-founders of Infinity Ward and two of the co-creators of the multi-billion dollar franchise Call of Duty They are building on their pedigree and taking a new approach to game design and creating an all new universe with Titanfall
- Requires Xbox Live Gold (sold separately)
- International products have separate terms, are sold from abroad and may differ from local products, including fit, age ratings, and language of product, labeling or instructions.
Pilot and Titan combat
Both games are associated with Pilot and Titan combat. EA described Titanfall 2 as expanding that signature combat, but the supplied review evidence does not establish a detailed, independently tested comparison of mechanics between the two releases.
Platforms and buying
The original’s launch announcement names Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC. PlayStation lists Titanfall 2 Standard Edition for PS4 and says it is playable on PS5, while warning that some PS4 features may be absent. See PlayStation’s Titanfall 2 listing for that platform information.
The PlayStation listing verifies the edition and compatibility information, but does not establish a current price, retailer stock, physical or digital format, or the state of online services. Check the relevant storefront and platform service information for current details before buying. No current player-population figure is established here.

Which one should you consider?
- Choose Titanfall 2 if an explicitly described single-player campaign is important to you, as well as Pilot and Titan combat.
- Consider the original Titanfall if you are specifically looking for its 2014 multiplayer-focused design and have access to one of its launch platforms; the cited scores are individual outlet ratings, not a guarantee of current online activity.
- If comparing review coverage, compare scores for the same game and attribute each figure to its publication. A critic-review count is not a quality rating.
