Start with this three-point check
Before replacing anything, identify:
- Which game or application reports the error
- When it happens, such as after an update, reinstall, mod installation, or antivirus alert
- Whether the affected program is 32-bit or 64-bit

The tobii.gameintegration.dll error usually belongs to a game or Tobii-enabled application, not to Windows itself. The file is associated with Tobii Game Integration, a native gaming API used for eye tracking, head tracking, presence data, gaze mapping, and related features.
Do not download a generic copy and place it in C:WindowsSystem32. The correct copy normally belongs in the folder of the game or application that installed it.

What tobii.gameintegration.dll does
Tobii Game Integration is middleware used by games and applications that support Tobii eye-tracking or head-tracking features. Tobii identifies integrations with products including Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, Star Citizen, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Far Cry 6, and The Division 2. Tobii Game Hub and developer SDKs can also use the integration layer.
The filename may appear in different forms:
tobii.gameintegration.dlltobii_gameintegration_x64.dlltobii_gameintegration_x86.dll
The dots and underscores do not necessarily indicate different products. They can reflect how a particular game or SDK packages the library. The architecture suffix does matter: a 32-bit application needs the x86 build, while a 64-bit application needs the x64 build. Renaming one does not convert it into the other.

The exact game cannot be identified from the filename alone. A crash report mentioning the DLL also does not prove that the DLL is missing or defective. The game may have failed while calling the integration layer.
Fix 1: Verify the affected game
This is the safest and most likely fix. Verification restores missing or damaged files from the game’s own approved package and avoids mixing builds from unrelated applications.
Steam
- Open Steam and select Library.
- Right-click the affected game.
- Select Properties.
- Open Installed Files.
- Select Verify integrity of game files.
- Wait for the process to finish, then restart Steam and launch the game.
Steam may reacquire the DLL or another file that depends on it. If the game starts, the repair worked. If the same error returns, continue with the antivirus check before reinstalling.

Xbox app for PC
- Open the Xbox app.
- Select My Library.
- Find the game and select the More button.
- Choose Manage.
- Open the Files or General section, depending on the app version.
- Select Verify and Repair.
For Microsoft Flight Simulator, Tobii specifically documents Manage → Verify and Repair in the Xbox app as a remedy for the missing tobii_gameintegration_x64.dll message.
Epic Games Launcher
- Open Epic Games Launcher.
- Select Library.
- Select the three dots beside the game.
- Choose Manage.
- Select Verify.
- Restart the launcher when verification completes.
Other launchers have a similarly named Verify, Repair, or Scan and repair command. Use that before downloading any replacement file.
If verification reports that it cannot repair the installation, uninstall and reinstall the affected game through its official launcher. Do not uninstall only the DLL.
Fix 2: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software may remove a game file after an update, mod installation, or false detection.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent quarantined or blocked items.
- Look for an entry associated with the affected game, Tobii integration, or the missing DLL.
Only restore or allow a file when its origin is clear and it came from the game’s official installation. Microsoft notes that quarantined items can be restored, but restoring an unverified file is unsafe.

The preferred sequence is to note the detection, remove an untrusted mod if necessary, then verify or reinstall the game. Do not disable antivirus protection broadly just to make the error disappear.
If the file disappears again immediately after verification, check:
- The antivirus detection details
- Windows ransomware protection notifications
- Whether a third-party security product is deleting the file
- Whether a mod or injector is changing the game directory
- Whether the game drive has permission or disk errors
Fix 3: Check the application architecture
A 32-bit and 64-bit build are not interchangeable. An x64 game cannot load an x86 Tobii library, and an x86 game cannot use an x64 library.
Use the copy supplied by the game. Do not:
- Rename
tobii_gameintegration_x64.dllto the dotted filename - Copy an x86 file into a 64-bit game
- Copy a DLL from another game
- Move the file into
System32orSysWOW64 - Combine files from different SDK or game versions
To check a running program’s architecture, open Task Manager, select Details, right-click a column heading, choose Select columns, and enable Platform if that option is available. Some Windows versions display 32-bit processes with a *32 suffix.
If the game’s installer offers separate architecture components, repair the component matching the application. A damaged or wrong-architecture file can produce messages such as “not designed to run on Windows,” not only “file not found.”
Fix 4: Repair the dependency behind the message
The message “The specified module could not be found” can mean that tobii.gameintegration.dll exists but one of its own dependencies does not.
First, open the game’s installation folder and search for the filename. If it is present, do not replace it immediately. Check the complete error text and Event Viewer:

- Open Windows Logs → Application.
- Look for an error at the time of the failed launch.
- Note any named file such as
VCRUNTIME140.dll,MSVCP140.dll, a DirectX component, or a .NET runtime.
Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable
If the game identifies a Visual C++ runtime as missing:

- Download the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable from Microsoft’s official documentation.
- Install the architecture required by the game.
- If you are unsure, install both x86 and x64 packages because applications can use different architectures.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the game’s file verification again.
The runtime architecture must match the application. Older Visual C++ runtimes may remain installed side by side because different games can require different runtime generations.
DirectX legacy components
Install Microsoft’s DirectX End-User Runtime only when the game installer or error specifically identifies a legacy DirectX component. This package adds older side-by-side libraries and does not replace the main DirectX version built into Windows.
Do not assume that every Tobii integration requires DirectX repair. The requirement belongs to the particular game.
.NET
If the application names a missing .NET runtime:
- Note whether it requests the .NET Desktop Runtime or another .NET component.
- Download the exact requested release from Microsoft’s .NET download page.
- Choose the architecture required by the application.
- Restart Windows and test again.
Installing an unrelated .NET version may not satisfy the program.
Fix 5: Update Windows and repair protected components
Windows Update will not normally recreate a third-party game DLL, but it can correct operating-system components that prevent games or runtimes from loading.
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Choose Check for updates.
- Install pending updates.
- Restart the computer.
Use DISM and SFC when Windows shows broader corruption, applications fail in several locations, or system components are also reporting errors.
Open Command Prompt as administrator and run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
Wait for it to complete, then run:
sfc /scannow
Restart Windows after both commands finish. DISM should run before SFC. These commands repair protected Windows components, not the private DLL files inside a game. Afterward, verify the game again.

- The game reaches its main screen but eye tracking does not work
- Tobii hardware is not detected
- The integration crashes after the game starts
- Several Tobii-enabled games fail in the same way
It is not the primary fix for a missing DLL bundled with one game. In that situation, repair the game first.
To update a device driver through Windows:
- Press
Win + X. - Select Device Manager.
- Expand the relevant device category, such as Human Interface Devices or Cameras.
- Right-click the Tobii device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
For a clean device reinstall, right-click the device, select Uninstall device, restart Windows, and then install the driver supplied by the hardware vendor or Windows Update. Do not remove an unknown device unless you have confirmed that it is the Tobii hardware.
Manually hunting through Device Manager and comparing drivers can be slow when several devices are stale. Do not run this as a routine fix:
regsvr32 tobii.gameintegration.dll
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer, commonly used by certain COM components. A game integration library is normally loaded privately by the game and is not registered globally.
If regsvr32 reports that the entry point was not found, that does not repair the missing-file problem. Use the game launcher’s verification or reinstall process instead.
Do not use System32 or random DLL downloads
Random DLL download sites sites can provide:
- Malware or tampered files
- The wrong architecture
- A mismatched game build
- An outdated or incomplete dependency set
Even a genuine DLL may not work if the game expects a particular companion file or private installation path. It can also hide the real cause, such as antivirus quarantine or a failed update.

The safe sources are:
- The affected game’s official launcher and repair function
- The official installer for the Tobii application that installed the file
- Microsoft’s official Visual C++, DirectX, .NET, and Windows repair packages
- Official developer SDK material when you are developing software, not repairing a consumer game
Tobii’s public SDK download is primarily for developers and is not a universal end-user replacement package.
Advanced recovery options
System Restore
Use System Restore only if the error began after a known change and a suitable restore point exists.
- Press
Win + R. - Enter
rstrui.exe. - Select Next.
- Choose a restore point created before the problem.
- Select Scan for affected programs.
- Review the changes.
- Start the restore.
System Restore rolls back system files, registry settings, and installed programs without normally changing personal files. You may still need to verify or reinstall the game afterward.

If the game works for another Windows account, the original profile may have permission or configuration damage.

- Create a local test account.
- Sign in to it.
- Install or launch the game if its permissions allow.
A successful test points toward profile configuration rather than a missing system DLL. It does not prove that the game installation is healthy.
FAQ
Is tobii.gameintegration.dll a Windows file?
No. It is third-party Tobii game-integration middleware and normally ships with the game, Tobii application, or SDK that uses it.
Can I copy it into System32?
No. The game usually expects the file beside its own executable or in its private installation path. Copying it into a Windows folder can create version conflicts.
Why does the error mention underscores instead of dots?
Different products package or name the integration library differently. The x86 and x64 suffixes identify architecture and must not be mixed.

Only when Tobii software or hardware fails after the game starts, or several Tobii-enabled applications show the same problem. For a missing file in one game, verify or reinstall that game first.
The DLL exists. Why does Windows still say it is missing?
A dependency may be missing, the architecture may be wrong, or the DLL may be damaged. Check the full error, Event Viewer, and the game’s required Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET components.
Does SFC restore this DLL?
Normally no. SFC repairs protected Windows components. It does not normally restore a third-party DLL stored in a game directory.
What should I collect before asking for support?
Record the affected game, the complete error text, the exact file path, whether the program is 32-bit or 64-bit, recent updates or mods, antivirus Protection History results, and whether launcher verification restored anything.
