How to approach the puzzle
The sixteen tiles are LEDGER, DAY, BROWN, HORSE, WATER, HARDY, LOG, MURPHY, BALE, DREW, CANOPY, RECORD, TROUGH, REGISTER, HOLMES, and PITCHFORK. Some have multiple everyday associations, which makes it easy to commit too early to a plausible grouping. Before submitting, check that all four words fit the proposed category and that the remaining tiles can still form three complete groups.

Where to play Connections and find the archive
The New York Times Help Center says Connections is free to play on nytimes.com/games/connections, NYTimes.com/theathletic, the Games app, and the News app. It states: “The daily Connections game is released daily at midnight in your timezone.” The Help Center page was checked October 8, 2026; access details may change.
The Help Center says the archive reaches back to June 12, 2023, and is restricted to All Access and Games subscribers. It also describes Connections Bot, a subscriber feature that provides difficulty, player ratings, category, mistake, and guess-by-guess feedback.
