What it is

Gameplane is a free, open-source, self-hosted control panel for deploying and managing game servers on Kubernetes. It supports k3s, kubeadm, and managed Kubernetes clusters, with controls to create, start, stop, restart, clone, and delete servers. Idle auto-sleep and wake-on-connect help manage inactive instances. Operators get live WebSocket consoles, browser file management, and backups that run on demand or on schedules using S3-compatible storage. Listed mod sources include Modrinth, CurseForge, Thunderstore, Hangar, Factorio Mod Portal, Steam Workshop, SpigotMC, GitHub Releases, uMod, and Nexus Mods. Authentication can use Keycloak, Google OIDC, or GitHub OIDC with role-based access control. Relay tunnel options include frp, Tailscale, and playit. Gameplane is currently described as beta and requires a self-hosted Kubernetes deployment.

Good, and not so good

  • Free open-source core
  • Broad Kubernetes deployment support
  • Scheduled S3-compatible backups
  • Role-based access controls
  • Many listed mod sources
  • Requires self-hosted Kubernetes
  • Currently described as beta
  • Self-hosting requires operator management

Who it suits

Gameplane is aimed at homelabs, gaming communities, hosting operators, and teams managing game-server fleets. It fits users able to operate their own Kubernetes environment.

Gameplane combines Kubernetes deployment with server controls, backups, mod sources, and access management. It is most relevant when you already run, or plan to run, a self-hosted Kubernetes setup.
