There is no source-verified, universal character ranking for Torchlight: Infinite. The official material reviewed describes seasonal hero traits and balance changes, but does not publish a comparative tier list. Your best pick depends on the current season, the trait and build you plan to play, and whether you care most about campaign progression, mapping, or bossing.
Is there an official Torchlight: Infinite character tier list?
No. The official sources reviewed do not establish a standardized ranking of every hero, or measured comparisons for campaign, mapping, and boss encounters. Any list that places characters into tiers should therefore be treated as an editorial assessment for a stated patch, activity, and set of build assumptions—not as an official ranking or a settled fact.
A hero name alone is also an incomplete basis for comparison: heroes are connected to traits and build systems, and seasonal adjustments can change how those options perform. Compare the playable setup—hero, trait, skills, and investment—rather than assuming a character is always strong or weak.
What is the current-season context?
The official site says Afterlight launched globally on July 16 at 7:00 PM PDT. Its season material introduces Tide Whisper Selena with the Dance of the Deep trait, built around Terra skills. That is useful context for a current-season choice, but it does not by itself show how Selena compares with other heroes in a given activity.

The official site’s available content also announces a Tartarus season preview starting October 9, 2026. A preview announcement is not confirmation of the season’s launch date, final balance, or a resulting hero ranking. Check the latest official patch notes and the in-game values for the season you are actually playing before relying on a tier list.
Season changes can affect hero traits, talents, and balance. Official announcements and patch notes include adjustments to underperforming heroes and new or reworked traits; those changes make a list without a patch or season date especially difficult to interpret.

How to judge a hero for your goal
For a useful comparison, keep the patch and target content the same, and make the build assumptions explicit. These are comparison criteria, not performance results established by official rankings:
- Campaign and leveling: How comfortably does the setup progress before it has its endgame gear?
- Mapping: How quickly and safely does it clear the specific map tier being discussed?
- Bossing: How does it handle damage, survivability, and encounter mechanics against bosses?
- Investment: What gear and currency does the build need to reach the claimed performance?
- Complexity: How much execution, setup, or automation does it require?
These axes can point to different winners. A smooth leveling option need not be the fastest mapper, while a build that excels with substantial investment may be a poor recommendation for someone starting fresh. If a ranking does not say which activity and investment level it measures, its tiers cannot answer those questions reliably.

What a trustworthy tier list should tell you
- The season or patch date it covers.
- The hero trait, core skills, and build being ranked—not just the character name.
- The content target, such as campaign, a specified mapping tier, or bossing.
- The assumed gear and currency investment, plus any relevant complexity or automation.
- Whether the ordering is the author’s judgment or a comparison supported by defined measurements.
Without those details, treat a tier label as a starting point for investigation rather than a universal recommendation. For the question “what are the go-to starters now?”, a community post illustrates that players do ask for current starters, but one post is anecdotal and cannot establish a representative consensus or prove a hero’s performance.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to choose if you are starting now
- Check the season and patch you are playing. Seasonal changes can alter traits and balance, so avoid carrying over an old list without checking its date.
- Choose your priority. Decide whether you want an easier campaign, mapping speed, boss performance, or a build suited to a particular investment level.
- Compare complete builds. Look for the hero’s trait, skills, gear assumptions, and target content; a character label alone is not enough.
- Verify current details in game. Confirm trait descriptions and values against the current client, especially around a newly announced season.
For Afterlight, Selena’s Dance of the Deep is a concrete season-specific option to investigate if Terra skills interest you. The available official information does not establish that she is the best starter or the strongest hero overall, so make that choice based on a current build and your preferred activity rather than an unsupported tier placement.
