To deal with it, check the affected province’s figures and effects, then use the countermeasures available to your faction. Changes take several turns to show, and exact effects vary by faction and game update.
How corruption works in WARHAMMER III
Check the affected province’s panel for its corruption and public-order values. Corruption can worsen public order and contribute to unrest and attrition. If public order drops far enough in a corrupted province, an uprising may be aligned with the corruption rather than a standard revolt. The precise outcomes and thresholds are not universal across corruption types, factions, and campaigns. The Total War Academy’s campaign guide explains the general relationship and consequences.
Corruption is not simply a number to erase at any cost: in some faction mechanics, it may be an intentional effect. Consider what it is doing to the province and what your faction’s effects say before choosing a response.
How to reduce corruption or limit its consequences
Start by inspecting the local province effects and the options your faction actually has. The Academy identifies several broad countermeasure categories, but their availability and exact effects vary:

- From the icy peaks of Naggaroth to the arid reaches of the Southlands, each race struggles for dominion. As their conquests grow, the land turns crimson, and rivers run red with the blood of the slain!
- Blood for The Blood God brings a number of gory, mature-rated effects to Total War: WARHAMMER II
- Heroes: Check whether an available hero can combat corruption in the affected area.
- Buildings: Review building effects for corruption reduction or public-order support.
- Lord skills and followers: Look for relevant effects among your lord’s skills and followers.
- Garrisoned armies: A garrison can support public order and help counter corruption, depending on the faction and situation.
These options do not necessarily do the same thing. Some may reduce corruption; others may primarily help manage public order or the resulting instability. Compare their stated effects, geographic reach, and costs in your campaign rather than assuming every option directly removes corruption.
Why corruption can take time to change
Do not expect the province value to reset immediately after removing a source or activating a countermeasure. The Total War Wiki’s explanation of corruption says levels take several turns to adjust. Its numerical example describes the original Total War: WARHAMMER, not a confirmed WARHAMMER III formula, so it should not be used to predict a specific rate or number of turns in this game. Recheck the province over subsequent turns and respond to its current effects.

Faction mechanics can change the answer
Tomb Kings: Scholarly Purity
Creative Assembly’s Patch 7.2 notes clarify that the Tomb Kings’ Scholarly Purity edict clears province corruption and prevents it from increasing. Treat this as a specific Tomb Kings mechanic, not a general edict available to every faction.
Vampire Counts: Tenebrous Authority
In Update 9.0, Creative Assembly added Blood Decrees for the Vampire Counts. Tenebrous Authority increases both growth and corruption. That makes corruption an effect to weigh against the decree’s other benefit, rather than something the decree is designed to suppress.

A practical decision check
- Identify the province: Read its corruption and public-order values, then inspect the local effects and any signs of attrition or unrest.
- Check faction-specific options: Review relevant heroes, buildings, lord skills, followers, garrison options, and faction mechanics. Use the effect text in the current campaign to confirm what each option changes.
- Choose the outcome you need: If corruption itself is the problem, prioritize an option that explicitly reduces or clears it. If the immediate danger is unrest or public-order loss, a measure that mitigates those consequences may be more useful.
- Track the province over turns: Recheck its values after the campaign advances; corruption can take several turns to adjust.
