If Totally Accurate Battle Simulator (TABS) crashes on startup, during loading, or in the middle of a battle, start with the least destructive fixes: restart Windows, verify the game files, remove all mods and custom content, update your launcher and graphics driver, then test capped frame rates. Steam players can also try -force-d3d11. A clean reinstall should be the final step—not the first—because leftover Mod.io content, external mod loaders, or AppData files can survive a normal reinstall.
The right fix depends on when the crash occurs and whether you play through Steam, Epic Games Store, or the Xbox app/Microsoft Store.

Identify when TABS crashes
- Immediately after clicking Play: damaged files, mods, antivirus interference, incompatible drivers, missing components, or launcher problems are common possibilities.
- At the splash screen or on a black screen: test the graphics API, display mode, GPU selection, drivers, overlays, and background software.
- While loading a map or battle: custom content, Workshop assets, oversized battles, or memory pressure may be responsible.
- After several minutes: check GPU or CPU load, unlimited frame rates, temperatures, available RAM, drivers, and third-party software.
- Only with mods or downloaded content: remove the content completely rather than merely disabling it.
- Application load error

Alt+Enter, switch Windows projection to PC screen only, update the graphics driver, check antivirus, and temporarily lower the display resolution.
These symptoms overlap, so use the sequence below to isolate the cause instead of applying unrelated fixes at random. Landfall’s troubleshooting guidance covers these causes and workarounds in more detail at its official troubleshooting page.

The Steam listing gives these Windows specifications:

These are the specifications shown on the TABS Steam page. Meeting the minimum does not guarantee stability in very large battles: many units, complex custom content, and limited available RAM can create substantially heavier CPU, GPU, and memory loads.
There is also an important modern compatibility qualification. The listing still names Windows 7 as the game’s minimum operating system, but the Steam Client supports Windows 10 and later only as of January 1, 2024. A current Steam installation should therefore be treated as requiring a supported Windows 10-or-newer environment.
2. Restart Windows and update the launcher
Restart the computer before deleting files or reinstalling anything. This can clear a temporary launcher, driver, or memory problem and gives later tests a clean starting point.
Then update the storefront application:
- In Steam, click Steam in the top-left corner.
- Select Check for Steam Client Updates….
Epic Games Launcher and the Xbox app can also receive updates through their normal update mechanisms. An outdated launcher can interfere with downloading, validating, or saving game data.
3. Verify the game files
File verification is the safest substantive repair. It replaces missing or corrupted installation files without deliberately removing saves or custom creations.
Steam
- Open Library.
- Right-click Totally Accurate Battle Simulator and choose Properties.
- Open Installed Files.
- Select Verify integrity of game files.
Older guides may call this menu Local Files; Steam’s current label is Installed Files.
Epic Games Store
- Open the Epic Games Library.
- Click the three dots beside TABS.
- Select Verify.
Xbox app or Microsoft Store
- Open the Xbox app and find TABS in Library.
- Click the three dots and choose Manage.
- Open the Files tab.
- Select Verify and repair.
Verification does not necessarily remove user-generated content, external mod loaders, or files outside the launcher’s normal installation check. If the crash continues, test the game without custom content.

4. Remove mods and custom content completely
Do not assume that turning off a mod is the same as removing it. TABS content may include downloaded units, factions, maps, campaigns, Creator content, Mod.io subscriptions, external mod-loader files, and manually copied files. A broken item can continue affecting the game while it is merely disabled.
Delete Steam Workshop content
- Right-click TABS in the Steam Library.
- Choose Properties.
- Open Workshop.
- Select Delete all mods.
Unsubscribe from Mod.io content
- Sign in to TABS on Mod.io.
- Open My collection.
- Unsubscribe from downloaded items by clicking the red X.
Also inspect the game installation directory for external mod-loader folders such as BepInEx and other manually installed mod files. Steam Workshop cleanup and Mod.io unsubscribing may not remove those files.
Launch TABS again with no custom content. If the base game works, the crash is likely tied to one or more restored items. Add content back selectively rather than restoring everything at once.
5. Back up saves and creations before deleting data
Before a clean reinstall or manual cleanup, make a copy of your local data. Do not rely on Steam Cloud as your only backup.
Landfall documents custom creations under:

A Steam community FAQ identifies saved data at:
C:Users<your username>AppDataLocalLowLandfall GamesTotally Accurate Battle SimulatorSavedBack up the entire TABS folder, or at minimum the Saved folder and the CustomContent folder. Do not casually delete the whole LocalLow directory before making this copy.
6. Cap the frame rate and enable V-Sync
Landfall notes that unlimited frame rates can cause issues in some cases. Enable V-Sync and cap the frame rate using the game’s available settings or your graphics driver’s profile.
This test is especially useful when TABS:
- Crashes during a heavy battle.
- Runs at unusually high frame rates.
- Crashes only after several minutes.
- Pushes the GPU hard or raises temperatures.
There is no single official FPS limit that applies to every PC, so do not assume one universal number is required. The purpose is to reduce uncontrolled GPU load and see whether stability changes.

7. Try DirectX 11 on Steam
Steam players can test TABS with Landfall’s documented launch option:

- Choose Properties.
- Stay on the General tab.
- Enter
-force-d3d11in Launch Options. - Close the window and launch the game.
This is a compatibility test, not a guarantee that every PC should use DirectX 11 permanently. If it makes no difference or introduces a new problem, remove the option and retest. Epic may offer an equivalent launch-options field, but do not assume the Steam menu path exists identically there. Xbox app users should not use Steam launch options.
8. Update the graphics driver from the manufacturer
Install the current driver for the GPU actually installed in the computer. Use the manufacturer’s official download page, not a paid third-party driver updater:
Restart Windows after installing the driver, then test TABS before restoring mods or overlays. A driver update can help with black screens, display-mode failures, graphics-api issues, and crashes that appear only under heavy rendering load.
9. Make sure a laptop uses the dedicated GPU
A laptop may meet the listed requirements but still launch TABS on its low-power integrated graphics chip.

- Open Windows Settings.
- Go to System > Display > Graphics.
- Add TABS to the app list if it is not already there.
- Set the game to High performance.
- If necessary, set Windows power mode to Best performance and connect the charger.
This is particularly worth testing when the game launches but crashes or performs poorly in battles, or when the laptop is operating on battery or a power-saving profile.
10. Test antivirus and the error 3:0000065432
Antivirus software can quarantine a game file or block the launcher from downloading and saving data. For application load error 3:0000065432, a TABS community FAQ also identifies antivirus incorrectly flagging the game as a possible cause.

For a legitimate installation:
- Check the antivirus quarantine and restore a TABS file only if you trust the installation.
- Add an exclusion for the TABS installation folder and launcher when appropriate.
- Verify the files again after repairing a quarantine.
- If you temporarily suspend protection for diagnosis, re-enable it immediately afterward.
An exclusion reduces scanning coverage for that folder, so do not permanently disable antivirus protection or add broad exclusions unnecessarily.
11. Disconnect peripherals and background software
Close other applications and test TABS with only a mouse and keyboard connected. Temporarily disconnect controllers, joysticks, racing wheels, foot pedals, and similar devices. Landfall lists peripherals as possible sources of problems.
Also close programs that:
- Overlay games or hook into graphics rendering.
- Record gameplay.
- Manage RGB lighting or peripherals.
- Create virtual displays or remote-desktop sessions.
- Consume substantial memory.
This is an isolation test, not proof that a particular overlay or device is always incompatible with TABS. Reconnect devices and reopen applications one at a time if the game becomes stable.
Citrix Workspace
Landfall specifically says Citrix Workspace can cause Unity-related issues and make games crash. If it is installed, test TABS on a computer without it or ask your organization’s IT administrator about a safe test. Do not uninstall workplace software on a managed computer without permission.

Close unnecessary browsers, launchers, and other memory-heavy applications. Landfall specifically notes that browsers such as Chrome can consume substantial RAM.
To distinguish a performance or memory limit from damaged installation files:

- Open Task Manager while reproducing the problem.
- Test a standard campaign mission or a small built-in sandbox battle.
- Reduce the number of units in a custom battle.
- Compare the result with the large map or custom content that normally crashes.
If small built-in scenarios work but huge battles fail, the problem may be resource pressure rather than a corrupted base installation. The game lists 8 GB RAM as both its minimum and recommended amount, but that does not mean all of that memory is available to TABS—Windows and other programs use it too.

13. Perform a clean reinstall only after the tests above
A normal reinstall may not solve a crash if custom content, external mod files, or local AppData data remain. Use a clean reinstall only after backing up your files.
- Sign in to Mod.io and unsubscribe from all TABS content.
- Back up
CustomContentand your saved data. - Uninstall TABS through Steam or Epic.
- Confirm that the game installation folder has been removed. Delete leftover mod-loader files if they remain.
- Delete the TABS folder under
C:Users<your username>AppDataLocalLowLandfall GamesTotally Accurate Battle Simulator. - Reinstall the game.
- Launch it without restoring custom content.
- Test a built-in mission or small battle.
- Restore the backed-up
CustomContentonly after the clean base game works. - If the crash returns, remove the content and add items back selectively to identify the trigger.
This step can remove local data, so do not delete the AppData folder without a backup. Landfall warns that custom content and very large amounts of content can cause crashes or loading problems.
Steam, Epic, and Xbox app differences
Steam: use Properties > Installed Files > Verify integrity of game files, Steam Workshop’s Delete all mods, and the Steam launch option -force-d3d11. Steam’s Browse local files command is useful for checking leftover mod-loader files.

Xbox app or Microsoft Store: use Manage > Files > Verify and repair. App-container permissions and file locations differ from Steam. Do not use Steam launch options or Steam Workshop instructions for this version.
If TABS still crashes after a clean test
If the game still crashes with current Windows, updated drivers, verified files, no mods, and no unusual peripherals or background software, contact Landfall at [email protected]. Steam identifies Landfall as the official support provider for TABS.
Include:
- Your Windows version.
- CPU, GPU, graphics-driver version, and installed RAM.
- Your storefront: Steam, Epic, or Xbox/Microsoft Store.
- Whether the installation is modded.
- Exactly when the crash occurs.
- Any displayed error code.
- Every troubleshooting step already attempted.
- The relevant crash or output log, if available.
Check the TABS data directory at:
C:Users<your username>AppDataLocalLowLandfall GamesTotally Accurate Battle SimulatorLog filenames and locations can vary by build, so include the files Landfall requests rather than assuming one specific filename.
