Towerborne is no longer an upcoming Xbox game: its full release arrived on February 26, 2026. The game first entered Steam Early Access on September 10, 2024, then Xbox Game Preview on April 29, 2025. It is now available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Steam and PlayStation 5 as a premium game, with offline story play and optional online co-op.
When did Towerborne come to Xbox?
Xbox Game Preview began on April 29, 2025, for Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC through the Xbox app. That was an early-access version, not the full launch. The complete game followed on February 26, 2026, when Xbox announced it for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Steam and PlayStation 5. Xbox’s launch announcement lists the full-release date and platforms.
The original plan was for an Xbox and Windows PC Game Preview release in 2025. That plan took shape with the April Game Preview launch; it is now historical rather than a future release date. Xbox announced the Game Preview date in March 2025.
What platforms is Towerborne on?
The full game is available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Steam and PlayStation 5, according to Xbox’s February 2026 launch announcement. Xbox also identifies the game as supporting Xbox Play Anywhere. For Xbox access, the launch announcement specifies inclusion with Game Pass Premium and Ultimate. Is Towerborne free to play?
No. The full release is a premium, buy-once game. Xbox announced US prices of $24.99 for the Standard Edition and $29.99 for the Deluxe Edition; these are announcement prices and may not match current prices in every region or storefront. The game is also included with Xbox Game Pass Premium and Ultimate, according to Xbox’s launch-day announcement.
This is a change from the original design. In its January 2026 launch announcement, Xbox said the game had initially been planned as free-to-play and always online, but the full-game version would instead be a one-time purchase with offline play and optional online co-op. Xbox’s announcement of the model change gives the planned editions and prices.

What kind of game is Towerborne?
Xbox describes Towerborne as a cooperative, side-scrolling action RPG brawler developed by Stoic and published by Xbox Game Studios. You play as an Ace defending the Belfry in a world threatened by corruption. Xbox’s full-launch description presents a story-driven campaign alongside biomes, enemies, bosses, missions, bounties and side quests; those are publisher descriptions, not an independent assessment of the game’s length or quality. Can you play Towerborne offline or in co-op?
Yes. The full game supports offline story play, with online co-op as an option. Xbox’s April 2025 Game Preview announcement also described cross-platform play and shared progression across Xbox and PC, including Steam players. Local couch co-op was specifically announced for Xbox Series X|S: additional controllers can join the same screen for up to four players. Do not assume that this local mode is confirmed for every version. Xbox’s Game Preview announcement explains those multiplayer details.

Stoic explained its choice of Steam Early Access this way: “We chose Steam Early Access for two main reasons: first, it offers the ideal space for a studio like ours to gather feedback and iterate quickly — a process fully supported by Xbox, as it ensures the best experience for players.” The statement appeared in the studio’s Early Access launch message published by Xbox Wire.
