Transport Fever 3 launched on September 29, 2026, for PC, Mac, Linux, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. It has the settlement-growth appeal of a city sim, but its central challenge is building and managing transport networks that help towns and industries prosper.
Is Transport Fever 3 a city builder or a transport sim?
It is best understood as a transport tycoon and simulation game, not a pure city builder. The player’s work centers on connecting places and industries, managing roads and transport lines, and making the network useful enough to support settlement growth. Town prosperity and a growing world population are stated goals of the larger simulation, rather than a substitute for the logistics systems.
That makes “sandbox city sim” a useful shorthand for the appeal, but not a precise description of the core activity: the player develops a transport company and its network while towns grow around that infrastructure. Paradox Interactive’s Tycoon Gameplay Overview describes the company-progression and town-prosperity goals.
What modes can you play?
Campaign
Campaign missions provide structured objectives. Choose this mode if you want a sequence of defined scenarios rather than setting your own long-term goals. The publisher lists campaign missions among the game’s play options.

Free-play sandbox
Free play is the open-ended option for players who want to build and manage a network without following campaign missions. Its freedom is about how you approach the transport simulation; it does not turn the game into a conventional city builder focused primarily on zoning or placing buildings.
Map editor
The map editor lets players create custom landscapes, offering more control over the setting in which a network develops. It is a distinct creative option alongside campaign and free play, rather than another campaign structure. The publisher’s mode overview identifies all three options.

Its stated offer ended 14 days after launch, on October 13, 2026. Since that date has passed, verify current terms with the publisher or storefront rather than assuming the discount still applies. Quick Recap
Who is Transport Fever 3 for?
- Choose it for logistics: You want to design and manage transport routes, connect industries and towns, and develop a transport company.
- Choose it for open-ended planning: You prefer free play or custom landscapes to a mission-led structure.
- Keep expectations clear: Towns and population growth are part of the simulation’s goals, but the game’s central focus is transport management, not pure city construction.
