Treecko evolves into Grovyle at level 16, and Grovyle evolves into Sceptile at level 36 in the standard main-series games. The species sequence comes from the official Pokémon Pokédex, while the levels come from Pokémon Database, which is the source to check if a specific game plays differently.
The full evolution line
Treecko belongs to a three-stage line. The official Pokémon Pokédex lists the stages as No. 0252 (Treecko), No. 0253 (Grovyle) and No. 0254 (Sceptile). Pokémon Database records the usual evolution levels for each step and lists Treecko’s introduction in Generation 3.
| Stage | Pokédex No. | Evolves at | Evolves into |
|---|---|---|---|
| Treecko | 0252 | Level 16 | Grovyle |
| Grovyle | 0253 | Level 36 | Sceptile |
| Sceptile | 0254 | Final stage | Not applicable |
Sources: species numbers and sequence from the official Pokémon Pokédex; evolution levels from Pokémon Database (main-series games). The official Pokédex does not state the levels.
How to reach each stage
- Raise Treecko to level 16. In the standard main-series method, it then evolves into Grovyle.
- Raise Grovyle to level 36. In the standard main-series method, it then evolves into Sceptile.
The line has no branches, so there is no choice of evolution target at either step. The only decision is whether to let the evolution happen when the level is reached or to delay it, for example to keep a particular move on the current form, since the level requirement is the same whichever way you handle it.

Pokédex details worth knowing
- Treecko (No. 0252): Grass type, 0.5 m tall and 5 kg, with the listed ability Overgrow. Its Pokédex entry describes small hooks on the soles of its feet that let it cling to walls and ceilings and hang upside down without falling.
- Grovyle (No. 0253): Grass type, 0.9 m tall and 21.6 kg. Its Pokédex entry emphasizes powerful thigh muscles and strong jumping.
- Sceptile (No. 0254): the final evolution in the line, as shown in the official evolution listing.
These measurements are the reference values listed in the Pokédex, not in-game stats.
When the levels may differ
The 16 and 36 levels describe the standard main-series method. Pokémon Database lists availability and details for each game separately, so if you are playing a title with different mechanics, check that game’s entry on Pokémon Database before relying on these numbers. The official Pokédex confirms that the species line is Treecko, Grovyle and Sceptile, but it does not document the levels.
