Can you play Trine 5 solo or in co-op?
Official materials describe play for one to four players, both locally and online. The central choice is whether to control the trio alone or share the campaign with others. Frozenbyte says the puzzle difficulty system adapts to the number of players; that is a developer feature description, not an independent measure of how well the adjustment works. Local co-op
Local co-op supports up to four players according to official materials. It suits players who want to work through the puzzle campaign together in the same place.
Online co-op and cross-play
The official FAQ published in 2023 said PC, Xbox, and Switch players could play together only when running the same build version, and that PlayStation was excluded from that cross-play arrangement at the time.
