Its co-op depends on the platform you buy: the Steam listing describes local and online co-op for up to three players, the Xbox listing describes local co-op only, and the 2018 Switch announcement describes local, online, and local wireless play. The biggest buying caveat is compatibility. Steam lists the macOS build as 32-bit and says it will not run on macOS 10.15 Catalina or later.
This guide is based on publisher announcements and storefront listings, not hands-on play sessions or independent critic testing. Store prices, stock, and compatibility notes change over time, so confirm them on the storefront before you buy.
What you actually play
Trine is a fantasy action game in which physics-driven objects, hazardous puzzles, and enemies fill each level. Three heroes are bound to the Trine artifact, and you move between them to get past each obstacle. The publisher announcement describes 15 levels and says puzzles can be solved in more than one way.
The three heroes
- Amadeus the Wizard creates and levitates objects, which is the main tool for building bridges, moving crates, and reaching high ledges.
- Pontius the Knight breaks obstacles and fights enemies up close.
- Zoya the Thief attacks at range and uses a grappling hook to reach places the others cannot.
Steam says you can freely select whichever hero suits the challenge in front of you. That freedom is the core of the design: the same room can often be cleared by moving a box with the wizard, smashing a wall with the knight, or hooking across a gap with the thief. Players who like experimenting with physics will get more out of the game than players who prefer one fixed route.

What the Enchanted Edition includes
The Enchanted Edition is described on Steam as a remake of the original game with new visual effects and gameplay improvements, built on the engine used for Trine 2. It is not a bundle of the three numbered games. The original Trine is included as a separate option that you select from the launcher, but only on Windows and Mac.

Co-op by platform
Co-op is the feature where the editions diverge most, so compare the platforms before you buy. The table below shows what each official source states.

The Switch row is a 2018 announcement, so confirm that the current eShop version offers the same modes before relying on it. Controllers are optional input accessories for local co-op; the listings do not make an extra controller a requirement, so treat any second controller purchase as a convenience.

Compatibility: check this before buying on PC
Steam’s published requirements for the Enchanted Edition are Windows 10 or later, a 2.0 GHz dual-core processor, 1 GB of RAM, and 4 GB of storage. These are the publisher’s stated figures, not independent hardware tests.
Mac
The Steam macOS build is 32-bit. Steam states that it will not run on macOS 10.15 Catalina or later, and that Apple Silicon is not supported. If you own a current Mac, the listing indicates this version will not run on it. Check your macOS version under Apple menu, then About This Mac, before purchasing.

Linux and Steam Deck
The Steam listing calls the native Linux build legacy and says it has not been actively tested on current distributions. For Steam Deck, Steam notes that the Windows version run through Proton may give better results than the native Linux build. That is the route to try first if you are buying for handheld Linux play, and it is the reason the Linux row in the table above should not be read as a recommendation.

Digital storefronts
Steam and the Xbox Store both carry digital listings, and the Frozenbyte announcement from 2018 said the Enchanted Edition was then available on the Nintendo eShop in North America and Europe. Those statements establish the storefront routes, not current regional prices or stock. Check the listing for your region, since prices and availability differ by store and country.

Physical Switch card
On February 13, 2019, Frozenbyte announced a Nintendo Switch game card for Trine games 1 to 3, planned for release that spring. It names three games: Trine Enchanted Edition, Trine 2: Complete Story, and Trine 3: The Artifacts of Power. The Enchanted Edition is therefore a part of that card, not a standalone cartridge. The announcement confirms the contents and planned timing only. It does not establish that the card is in stock today or that any particular marketplace listing is authentic, so verify the seller and the listed contents before paying.
Reviews and ratings
Aggregate review totals and scores on storefront pages change constantly, and the page text used for this guide did not provide a stable figure that could be quoted with a date. For that reason this article does not report a score. Read recent user reviews on the platform you plan to buy from, and filter them by the hardware you own.
The Bottom Line
Buy Trine: Enchanted Edition if you enjoy puzzles that reward switching between three abilities and you have a machine that meets the requirements for the platform you choose. Pick Steam or the Xbox Store if you want the most clearly documented co-op, since Steam lists online and local co-op for up to three players while the Xbox listing covers local co-op only. Avoid the Steam macOS build on any Mac running macOS 10.15 or later, and treat Linux as a secondary option that works best through Proton on Steam Deck.
