Tsukihime -A piece of blue glass moon- is a substantial, dialogue-led visual novel with striking presentation and two carefully reworked stories—but it is not the complete remake of the original game. The 2024 English release covers Arcueid’s and Ciel’s Near Side routes, so readers should expect a long, sometimes slow read, graphic violence, and only part of the larger story.
What is Tsukihime -A piece of blue glass moon-?
Developed by TYPE-MOON, Tsukihime -A piece of blue glass moon- is a remake of the studio’s visual novel. Its premise follows Shiki Tohno, a high-school student who begins seeing “lines of death” after a childhood accident. After his father dies, Shiki returns to live with his sister Akiha and uncovers dark truths in his hometown. Aniplex’s English product page credits Kinoko Nasu as scenario writer and director.
The official English game site says the remake rebuilds Nasu’s story, shifts its setting to 2010s Tokyo, and expands the narrative. This release collects two stories from the original game’s “Near Side of the Moon” portion: Arcueid’s “Moon Princess” and Ciel’s “Midnight Rainbow.”
What do the reviews say?
Story and characters
Nintendo Life praises the dramatic story and says the second route is worthwhile for readers who want more answers. Nintendo Insider also highlights the writing and character relationships, while noting that the game spends time explaining its world. Taken together, the reviews point to a character- and story-focused experience rather than a brisk, action-led game.

Presentation and pacing
Nintendo Insider calls attention to the visual presentation, but describes the experience as lengthy, with slower stretches. Its review also discusses dialogue choices, hidden ending flags, and multiple endings. Those are that reviewer’s observations; there is no verified, independently measured playtime in the available sources.
Metacritic’s critic excerpts include praise for the narrative and presentation, as well as a description of the game as “a long summer’s read” that may be too intense for some. These excerpts represent selected critics, not a universal consensus. Nintendo Life’s headline score is 7.9/10.

How much of the original story is included?
This release contains two of the original Tsukihime visual novel’s five branching routes, not all five. That distinction matters if you are buying the remake to experience the entire original route set: A piece of blue glass moon is a substantial installment, but its scope is limited to the Near Side stories of Arcueid and Ciel.
Is it suitable for newcomers?
Nintendo Insider’s reviewer says the story is understandable without reading other works in the shared universe. Treat that as one critic’s assessment rather than a guarantee that every reference or connection will land for every newcomer. The game’s own premise and two featured routes provide the central context for this installment.

How graphic is it?
The tone is dark, and reviews warn about graphic violence and disturbing imagery. The PlayStation listing flags blood and gore, intense violence, strong language, and suggestive themes. If those subjects are a concern, the game’s content should be a deciding factor rather than a minor caveat.

Quick Recap
Who should play it?
