Its simple loop—bid for land, find oil, build an efficient pipeline, and sell at the right time—can be satisfying, but reviews also flag repetition and limited campaign variety. The central question is whether that focused loop is enough for you.
What kind of game is Turmoil?
Turmoil is a management and tycoon game inspired by the 19th-century North American oil rush. You lease plots at town auctions, search for oil, construct rigs and pipes, store oil in silos, and sell it when prices are favorable. Town upgrades help you contend with obstacles such as rock, gas, and ice. The mayoral contest adds an economic objective: acquire more town shares than your competitors.
Steam lists single-player and online PvP, as well as achievements, trading cards, Steam Cloud, and Family Sharing. GameFAQs classifies it as a strategy, management, business/tycoon game and identifies Gamious as developer and publisher, with a PC release date of June 2, 2016. Steam’s Turmoil page has the game and its current store details.
What do reviews praise?
Simple decisions that still matter
The strongest positive case is the way a small set of actions creates meaningful choices. Where to lease, how to locate oil, how to route pipes, which upgrades to buy, and when to sell all affect the money available for the next move. The game is easy to understand without making every decision feel automatic.

- Jump into the boots of an elite special forces soldier, equally lethal on the ground and space, in an emotionally gripping new Star Wars campaign that spans over 30 years and bridges events between the films’ Star Wars: Return of the Jedi and Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
- A Star Wars multiplayer universe unmatched in variety and breadth where up to 40 players fight as iconic heroes, authentic-to-era troopers and in a massive array of vehicles on land and in the air – as battle rages through the galaxy.
- Team up with a friend from the comfort of your couch with two-player offline split-screen play*. Earn rewards, customize your troopers and heroes, and bring your upgrades with you on the online multiplayer battleground.
Steam user reviews describe the experience as a mix of relaxing and hectic, with plot selection, upgrades, and timing among the decisions they enjoy. Other players say it works well in short sessions. Those comments are individual player accounts, not controlled evaluations.
Accessible economic strategy
The appeal is not a sprawling simulation with many interlocking systems. It is a compact cycle of exploration, infrastructure, and market timing. That narrow focus gives new players a clear way in and lets experienced players concentrate on improving their decisions rather than mastering a large rule set.

What are the main criticisms?
The loop can become repetitive
The same simplicity that makes Turmoil approachable is also its clearest risk. GameFAQs reproduces an Everyeye.it review that calls the game extremely simple and cautions that repetition may set in, potentially discouraging a second campaign. Games.cz similarly praises its addictive, nostalgic management strategy while saying the campaign soon becomes stereotyped.
GameCrate’s reproduced excerpt is more positive, describing the game as exciting, fun, and challenging enough to hold interest. The differing reactions point to a preference question: players who enjoy refining a repeatable economic loop may find the structure satisfying, while players who need substantial variation between runs may not.

Do not expect a deep narrative or broad simulation
The available review evidence focuses on the management loop and campaign variety, not a long-form story or extensive simulation systems. If those are your main reasons for choosing a game, the review picture gives little reason to expect them here.
What do the ratings say?

The scores broadly fit the qualitative split: an accessible and enjoyable core loop earns praise, while the shortcoming to weigh is how long that loop stays fresh. Be more cautious if you want a campaign that keeps introducing new systems, strong replay variety, or a substantial narrative. The repetition criticism is not a minor mismatch for those priorities: it concerns the game’s central loop and how long it sustains interest.
