Start by identifying the exact headset model and platform: Xbox, PlayStation, Windows PC, Mac, Bluetooth, USB transmitter, or 3.5-mm wired connection. Turtle Beach models do not share one universal app, reset combination, or compatibility profile.
Use this order: charge and restart the headset, check mute and volume controls, reconnect the correct cable or transmitter, select the headset for audio input and output, test outside the game, then update firmware using the utility intended for that model.

Try these five fixes first
- Charge and power-cycle it. Use a known-good cable and USB port, turn the headset off completely, restart the console or PC, then turn the headset on again.
- Check the physical controls. Raise volume, disable mute, lower a flip-to-mute microphone boom, reseat a detachable mic, and center any Game/Chat balance control.
- Reconnect the correct connection. Plug a transmitter directly into the console or PC rather than through a hub, dock, monitor, KVM, or extension. For wired headsets, reseat every 3.5-mm and USB plug.
- Select the headset explicitly. Choose it as both the output and microphone device on the console, Windows, or the affected app.
- Test outside the game. Use a dashboard sound, console party, Windows microphone test, recording app, or another compatible device. This separates a game setting from a headset or connection failure.
Identify the symptom

Confirm the model and connection type
Find the model name on the headset, transmitter, box, or companion app before resetting or updating it. Xbox and PlayStation versions may use different wireless technology; some models connect directly to Xbox Wireless, while others need a USB transmitter. A “multiplatform” label also does not mean every feature works identically on every platform.

Turtle Beach headset not working on Xbox
- Confirm that the headset is the Xbox version. A PlayStation or PC model may not support Xbox Wireless.
- For a transmitter model, connect the transmitter directly to the Xbox and set its mode correctly.
- For a direct Xbox Wireless model, power it off, restart the console, then pair it again.
- Check the Xbox headset volume and chat mixer; a mixer pushed fully toward one side can remove game or chat audio. See Xbox’s headset guidance.
- If the headset is wired, connect it firmly to the controller and test another controller if available.
- After reconnecting, verify that the intended Xbox profile is assigned.
When troubleshooting a wireless Stealth 600 Gen 2 Xbox, Turtle Beach’s recovery instructions call for a complete console shutdown rather than simply entering sleep mode. Use the exact instructions for that model; do not apply its button combination to another Turtle Beach headset.
Turtle Beach headset not working on PlayStation
For a USB-transmitter headset, connect the transmitter directly to the PS4 or PS5 and confirm that the headset is searching for the transmitter. In the console audio settings, select the Turtle Beach device for both input and output. If you want game audio as well as chat, choose output to headphones/all audio where available, then adjust microphone level and chat/game balance.

If basic stereo audio works but 3D audio does not, temporarily disable the console’s 3D-audio feature as a diagnostic test. Re-enable it after the basic connection is confirmed.

Turtle Beach headset not working on Windows PC
- Open Settings > System > Sound.
- Select the Turtle Beach headset as the output device and its microphone as the input device.
- Run Windows’ input test and confirm that the meter responds when you speak.
- Open Volume mixer and check the game’s individual volume and output device. An app can use a different device from Windows’ default.
- Temporarily disable audio enhancements and spatial sound.
- If the device is missing, reconnect it directly, restart Windows, and inspect Device Manager for a disabled or failed audio device.
Microsoft documents system output selection and audio enhancements in its Windows sound troubleshooting guidance. For an individual game that is silent while system sounds work, check app-specific output routing.
Check Windows microphone permissions
In Windows 11, open Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone. Turn on microphone access, Let apps access your microphone, and Let desktop apps access your microphone. Then return to Settings > System > Sound > Input and select the Turtle Beach microphone.
Microsoft’s microphone permission instructions and microphone troubleshooting guide are useful when permissions changed after a Windows update.
Fix microphone problems
- Lower the boom if the headset uses flip-to-mute, or reseat the detachable microphone.
- Disable the headset’s mute control.
- Select the Turtle Beach microphone as the input device.
- Increase input volume and run a system recording test.
- Check console privacy restrictions and the game’s own voice-chat input setting.
- Update firmware after basic controls and permissions are confirmed.
Mic Monitor is not proof that other players can hear you. It is sidetone: it feeds your voice back to you locally. A successful recording or party-chat test is stronger evidence that the platform is receiving microphone input.

Fix missing game or chat audio
Game audio missing but chat works
Check that output is not set to chat-only, center the Game/Chat balance, and verify that the game is not routed to speakers, a monitor, or another Windows output. On PlayStation, check output-to-headphones/all-audio settings. On Windows, check the game in Volume mixer. If using Bluetooth, remember that some Turtle Beach models intend game audio to use 2.4-GHz wireless or a wired connection instead.
Chat missing but game audio works
Check microphone mute, boom position, input selection, console privacy settings, Windows permissions, and the game’s voice-chat setting. Test a system party or recording app before blaming the game.
Fix wireless pairing, transmitters, and Bluetooth
- Power off the headset and unplug the transmitter.
- Restart the console or PC.
- Connect the transmitter directly to the device and select the correct mode.
- Put the headset into the model’s pairing mode.
- Try another USB port and move the transmitter away from USB hubs, docks, external drives, and other interference sources.
- Test at short range and temporarily disable Bluetooth if the headset supports multiple wireless paths.
- Update both headset and transmitter firmware when the model’s instructions require it.
Bluetooth and 2.4-GHz wireless can be separate systems. Bluetooth working proves only that the Bluetooth path works; it does not prove that the console transmitter, Xbox Wireless connection, or platform mode is healthy.

Use the utility listed for the exact model. Older products may use Audio Hub; newer products may use Swarm II on desktop or mobile, or a product-specific recovery tool. Do not install a different model’s recovery package.

- Keep the headset charged.
- Open the official utility before connecting the headset.
- Use a direct USB connection and a data-capable cable.
- Connect the transmitter too if the model’s instructions require it.
- Allow the utility to detect the device and install the offered update.
- Do not close the app, remove the cable, or interrupt power during the update.
- Restart the headset and platform and re-pair if necessary.

Reset or recover the headset
A power cycle only turns the headset off and on. A hard reset clears a temporary device state; a factory reset may remove pairings and custom settings; firmware recovery reinstalls or forces firmware. These are not interchangeable.
Important: reset and recovery controls differ by model. Do not use another Turtle Beach headset’s button combination. Try volume, mute, output-device, cable, and permission checks first. Then follow the exact support article for the model, especially if the headset has a stuck error LED or becomes unresponsive after an update.
When the problem is probably hardware
Seek Turtle Beach support or warranty service if the headset fails on multiple compatible devices, remains undetected after the correct recovery procedure, shows no charging or LED response with multiple cables and ports, has a permanently silent earcup, or has a damaged charging port, microphone, cable, or earcup. Firmware cannot repair physical damage.
Use the official Turtle Beach support portal after recording the exact model, platform version, LED behavior, cables tested, and whether Bluetooth, wired audio, or another device works.
